5th annual Tahoe Brewfest raises $50K for Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, calif. - The 5th annual Tahoe Brewfest raised over $50K for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, a non-profit that provides afterschool and summer programs for community youth. A new venue on Ski Run Blvd., in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, provided a fun-filled space for the crowds of beer enthusiasts who flooded the street on Saturday, August 27, 2022. More than 2,200 people enjoyed beer samples from over 20 breweries and 14 food vendors while shopping at 18 booths selling locally handmade jewelry, clothing, art, and more.

From Hawaii to South Lake Tahoe, Kulāiwi performs at Tahoe Arts Project concerts

To start off the season, they have brought a week of music from Hawaii into schools and will wrap it up with a public concert at Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theatre on Friday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m.

The musical group Kulāiwi will be stopping by local schools September 19-23 and wrapping up their week in Lake Tahoe with the community performance.

South Lake Tahoe City Council issues proclamation in recognition of Constitution Week

In celebration of Constitution Week, September 17 – 23, the South Lake Tahoe City Council presented a Constitution Week Proclamation to the Lake Tahoe Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution at its meeting on September 6.

Constitution Week commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution that took place in Philadelphia in 1787. In 1955, then President Dwight Eisenhower officially recognized Constitution Week. The Constitution is America’s most important document, as it emphasizes all our responsibilities for protecting and defending our great heritage.

Both the El Dorado Community Foundation and the Placer Community Foundation have created Mosquito Fire Relief funds for those impacted by the fire currently burning in both counties. Each fund is collecting financial donations to aid those in need due to evacuation expenses, job impacts, and loss of homes.

Several volunteer projects during Markleeville Creek Day

MARKLEEVILLE, Calif. - Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) is hosting its annual Markleeville Creek Day community workday on Saturday, September 17, 2022. This event allows for the completion of important restoration work through several projects across the Upper Carson River watershed. Volunteers will have the opportunity to plant willow stakes in Hope Valley, remove invasive weeds in Woodfords Canyon, and pick up trash to keep it from ending up in waterways. No experience is necessary.

A special thank you to the staff at Lake Tahoe Golf Course for collecting broken clubs and grips that will be used when teaching visually impaired youth.

Supply issues have left some blind and visually impaired students without white canes to practice mobility skills to travel safely and independently. Traditional white canes can be lost or broken easily as students are learning this important skill. Golf club shafts are the perfect temporary substitute to keep lessons on track until a new cane arrives.

The family of Caleb Emil Stenvold has created the race to not only honor the memory of their son but to help end teen suicide. Caleb was 14 years old and a student at Bishop Mangoue High School in Reno when he ended his life in 2020.

The Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) is holding its first wine tasting membership event on Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Maggie's (inside the new Desolation Hotel.

The group will be holding a Wine Evening on the first Wednesday of each month in different locations, then a Coffee Morning on the third Wednesday of each month, also in different locations.

Fundraiser opened for baby Warren Olivares as family faces mounting expenses

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two-month-old Warren Matthew Olivares has had a challenge since being born at 35 weeks on July 6, and friends have started a Go Fund Me fundraising account to help with the South Lake Tahoe family's medical expenses.

Warren's mom Tess had been on bed rest since going into labor at 23 weeks. When he was born, his first day of life was filled with lots of love and snuggles. Shortly after birth, Warren started to experience glucose problems, so he was started on an IV and was stabilized.

Free kids Pumpkin Run held during Lake Tahoe Marathon

Free Pumpkin Run for kids returns during the 27th annual Lake Tahoe Marathon this fall. The Optimist Club of Lake Tahoe is sponsoring the event for kids ages 1-10 on Sunday, October 16, 2022 while the marathon runs October 14-16.

Once again the Optimist Club of Lake Tahoe is sponsoring Free Pumpkin Runs for kids ages 1-10. Every participant gets a pumpkin if preregistered! The race starts at 4081 Lakeshore Blvd. at Lakeside Beach, South Lake Tahoe.

The buses are rolling. School is back in session in South Lake Tahoe and Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) is rolling out a fall fundraiser, an online art auction, titled “An Artful Way to Support Mt. Tallac High School Youth.” All sales, 100 percent, go directly to support Mt. Tallac High School. Douglas County advises residents of high heat over the holiday weekend

MINDEN, Nev. - With temperatures expected to exceed 100F over the next several days in Douglas County, officials are reaching out to residents to alert them of cooling centers and how to handle the above-normal heat.

The highs are expected to be dangerously hot with temperatures ranging from 100F to 105F, and little cooling at night with lows of 65F to 70F. These temperatures will reach or exceed daily records in many places through the holiday.

Lake Valley Fire holding Wet Down Ceremony for new engine

The Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) welcomes into service a new 2022 Rosenbauer Commander apparatus during a wet-down ceremony on Monday, August 29 at 10 a.m. at Fire Station 7. The public is invited to attend. Donuts, coffee, and refreshments will be provided.

Join Tahoe’s Trash Pickup Challenge in September

Clean Tahoe, Incline Village Waste Not, South Tahoe Refuse and League to Save Lake Tahoe have joined together to offer Tahoe's Trash Pickup Challenge. Help them show Tahoe how much we care by participating in the challenge from September 1-30! Together we can keep our beautiful Tahoe environment clean and litter free.

All month long they encourage you to go out and pick up any litter that you see! You can join Keep Tahoe Blue all month long at in-person events, by cleaning up remotely, or both.

Parasol Foundation grants $250,000 to Lake Tahoe nonprofits

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Thanks to the generosity of its donors, Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation has announced the granting of $250,000 to local nonprofit organizations through its 2022 Community Fund Grant Program.

The Community Foundation administers grants annually to nonprofit organizations serving the Lake Tahoe Basin in the areas of education, well-being, arts and culture, environment, and community engagement. This year, the Community Foundation dramatically increased the amount granted in celebration of 25 years of community philanthropy.
