SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship was hosted by Forest Suites Resort on Monday, March 13. Thanks to their AAD donation of $300 and sending an excellent sponsor crew to the Monday Meal dinner, over 74 dinners were served to the very grateful folks who came for a hot and tasty meal and the bags of food provided to those who join Bread & Broth's (B&B) weekly meal for dinner.

The community is invited to join in the Tahoe Community Church's Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. This fun event is open to ages 1-12 and it is free.

There are eggs and golden eggs with special prizes.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Do you know an outstanding adult or married couple 60 years or older performing exemplary work in the community as a volunteer?

Hosted by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and the El Dorado County Commission on Aging the annual “Senior of the Year” award will be presented to the nominated volunteer by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in the Board of Supervisors Chambers on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

- Nominees must be El Dorado County resident(s) and 60 years of age or older

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Learn about opioids, fentanyl, signs of an overdose, and how to use Narcan at the next meeting of the Tahoe Alliance for Safe Kids (TASK). They will be meeting on Thursday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the South Tahoe High School Student Union meeting room.

Shannon Decker of the Speedy Foundation will present a 30-45 minute program and training on the use of Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and other important information. The community is invited to attend.

Tahoe Douglas Firefighters Union 2441 is holding a St.Baldrick's head-shaving fundraiser in the Alpine Union at Hard Rock Tahoe on March 17 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Teams will be shaving their heads in support of childhood cancer research.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The sisterhood of the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) is founded on a deep commitment to serving the community, especially women and youth, and making a positive impact through the dignity of service. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe invites community members and visitors to attend a fundraiser dinner with live music by Cash Only a day early on Thursday, March 16, 2023. The American Legion Hall is at 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.

Join the League to Save Lake Tahoe for Clean California Community Days. Spring into action with a volunteer service event and celebration sponsored by the Governor’s Office, Caltrans, and partners across California. This statewide, 11-day event kicks off Friday, March 17 with a big splash of activities occurring on Saturday, March 25. The goal is to work together to clean up our communities and spread the word about taking pride in keeping California clean.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - St. Theresa’s Bread & Broth, an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to ease hunger in the Lake Tahoe South shore community, has a volunteer opportunity opening and is looking for individuals interested in joining our efforts to help others.

The Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) Board of Directors has appointed Cheyanne Lane as the new interim executive director for the agency that started in 1971.

Cheyanne began working for TYFS in 2006 and has filled many roles during her tenure. Most recently, she has served as the agency's Supportive Services manager focusing on homeless intervention and prevention services to ensure that unaccompanied minors and homeless young adults in our community have a voice and are represented.

Long active in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community, the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe and its members believe in service and want to make a difference by working together, and with, other members of the community. That is why sponsoring a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) on Monday, February 20, was a natural fit for the service organization and the members who volunteered to help with their sponsorship dinner.

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra is holding its 2nd annual Meat Raffle.

California law prohibits online raffles from taking internet payment, but Kiwanis has several options for those wishing to purchase.

Slow Food Lake Tahoe (SFLT) is introducing an early spring pick-up option for their popular Alaskan Salmon Buying Club serving the Truckee-Tahoe area. Previously only offered in the early fall, this additional pick-up date allows locals to replenish their supply of the healthy omega-rich protein more frequently with a significant club discount. Order a 20 lb. box of filets ($14.99/lb) or portions ($15.99/lb) for your own freezer, or share with a friend. Ordering closes on March 15. Boxes will be available for pick up in the Truckee River Regional Park on April 1.

The next Tahoe Paradise Recreation & Park District Board of Directors meeting will be held on Thursday, February 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will be held in person at the California Conservation Corps Tahoe Center,

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - “Liberty loves Bread & Broth and supporting our local community non-profits,” shared Breanna Kelly who was enjoying her first stint as a Liberty Utilities’ Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsor volunteer on Monday, February 13. After conferring with her fellow Liberty AAD sponsor teammates, Breanna added that “serving a nutritious meal to others is rewarding and benefits all of us.”

Douglas County has opened its grant cycle, giving all not-for-profit agencies a chance to apply for funding. All interested must complete and submit a grant application. Funding this year is limited and not all requests will be granted or fully funded.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - What a unique and opportunistic employment position nursing students are in at Western Nevada College (WNC). Instead of visiting potential employers for job interviews, the hospitals and healthcare facilities came to them this week for WNC Nursing Program's annual Job Fair.
           
But that was only part of the three-hour event in the Cedar Building. One hundred Registered Nursing (RN) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students also received professional development information and advice as well.

Culture, and Tourism Commission has announced the inaugural Arts, Culture, and Tourism microgrants program.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Looks for good summer help? The Tahoe Learning Haven is looking for 20 businesses to participate in a student job fair on Wednesday, May 10 at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. The fair is for teens ages 14-18. It will be from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The students will be prepared with resumes and will be motivated and ready to interview. They will be prepared and ready to WOW business owners!

Organizers will have work permits to complete at the event.

UPDATE: Due to the forecasted storm, Lake Tahoe Community College's TRiO Talent Search program has rescheduled its family-friendly dinner fundraiser at Ernie’s Coffee Shop. It will now be held on Tuesday, March 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College's TRiO Talent Search program, is holding a family-friendly dinner fundraiser at Ernie’s Coffee Shop.

TRiO serves 500 students currently attending South Tahoe Middle School, Mt. Tallac High School, and South Tahoe High School.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heavenly team members from The North Face retail store in Heavenly Village joined the Bread & Broth volunteers to provide a hot and filling meal, bags of giveaway food, and a special treat to the diners at the Monday Meal on February 6.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) is launching a series of workshops to educate the South Lake Community on various topics impacting the status of women including wage discrepancy, equal access to healthcare, right to family leave, right to child care, equal funding for women sports (Title IX), and Advocacy 101.

The first workshop, Advocacy 101, will be focused on how to be an advocate. It will be held at the South Lake Tahoe library on Wednesday, March 15 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The "Twosday Morning" Program at Kahle Community Center is back! Every Tuesday until June 6 from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. this program will be held at Kahle Community Center for children from birth to preschool age. The cost is $5 per child.

This program is designed for young children who would like to spend one morning a week in the company of their peers enjoying structured and spontaneous playful experiences including creative art and optional circle time.

UPDATE 3/1/23: This event has been postponed due to the forecast storm. The performers and participating groups are traveling from outside the area and conditions may not be safe for them, or for local travel to the event. The Historial Society hopes to reschedule in a few weeks.
