South Lake Tahoe's inaugural Multicultural Celebration to be held October 1

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe, along with the Multicultural Alliance Committee, will host their first Multicultural Celebration on Saturday, October 1 from 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Bijou Community Park. This one-day event celebrates the diversity of cultures in the South Lake Tahoe community through art, music, food, and entertainment. It will also feature cultural displays, kids' activities, food trucks, vendor booths, and more.

Every pet adoption at Truckee-Tahoe Humane Society sponsored by Soaring Ranch through Saturday

Soaring Ranch is partnering with the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe to find loving homes for every pet in the shelter. Adoption fees will be covered by Soaring Ranch starting Thursday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. and going through Saturday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m. All potential adopters need to complete an application first.

In addition to no adoption fees, pets will go home with a schwag bag provided by Wild & Ruff and a bed donated by generous supporters.

Tahoe’s Nature for All program connects underserved students with the outdoors

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - To provide opportunities for underserved community members of all ages to connect with nature, the Tahoe Fund has partnered with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) to bring a new pilot program to life. Aligned with the State of California’s Outdoor Access for All initiative, the Tahoe’s Nature for All program will provide immersive experiences to hundreds of people who do not currently have access to the outdoors.

Aktion Club to hold rummage sale to raise funds for leadership conference

Animal adoption crunch hits Lake Tahoe and Truckee: Humane Society holding special adoption day

Animal adoptions are on the decline just as the number of animals being turned into shelters is on the rise. According to Shelter Animals Count, a national database, there are six-percent more animals entering shelters than leaving. That’s a startling and scary number for thousands of homeless animals in need of help. The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) has seen a downtick in foot traffic and community members coming in to adopt.

Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) to expand coverage in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nevada –The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has announced that the Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) is expanding from two days a week to four days a week.

MOST is a mental health assistance program in Douglas County designed to contact citizens with mental health issues and attempt to get them connected with mental health services in the community. They provide services to all Douglas County residents and visitors who experience mental illness, substance abuse disorders, or suicidal crises.

Kudos: Community supports growing tennis program

Making it the largest tournament in its 38 years, 270 players recently participated in the annual Hersh Herschman Memorial Tahoe Classic at Zephyr Cove Park. The four-day annual event that ended July 24 brought even more people to our area for the fun tennis competition.

The tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club Foundation. The money raised from the event, including a silent auction and raffle, will help to continue to provide the only organized recreational tennis, with a growing kids program, on the South Shore.

Town of Truckee closes the funding gap for Donner Lake monitoring project

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Clean Up The Lake’s mission to fight against plastic and all forms of pollution has caught the attention of local businesses and foundations; Martis Fund, Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation, Truckee Tahoe Lumber Company, and the Parasol Community Foundation who have become major partners on the Donner Lake Monitoring Project. The Town of Truckee has just joined this group as the final partner for this year’s efforts led by Clean Up The Lake on Donner Lake.

In 2011, Bread & Broth implemented its Monday Meal “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” (AAD) program. American Legion Post 795 in South Lake Tahoe accepting resumes for bartender/event manager

The American Legion Post 795 is accepting resumes for those interested in applying for the position of Managing Bartender. This person will not only serve as the bartender but also book events at the Legion and other duties.

John “Skip” Steve, who has been the Legion’s manager and bartender for more than 14 years, has made the difficult decision to move in a different direction. The members of Post 795 are sad to see Skip leave, but wish him the best in his future, said Post Commander Tom Millham.

18th annual Day in Paradise features duck races, live music, car show, food trucks

Kudos: Kirkwood Mountain Resort partners with Bread & Broth

Bread & Broth would like to thank Kirkwood Mountain Resort for once again supporting our Monday evening meal program at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall. Kirkwood’s “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” sponsorship provided the funds for the nutritious and filling meal served at B&B’s July 18 dinner. That evening, the dinner guests enjoyed roasted chicken served with broccoli, beans, coleslaw, rice, and assorted desserts. It was a great “home-cooked” meal.
