Volunteer opportunities to water sugar pine seedlings at Lake Tahoe

Join the Sugar Pine Foundation for the rest of summer as they continue watering the little seedlings alive at different locations around Lake Tahoe. Once a volunteer attends three waterings they receive a sugar pine hat!

The heat of July and August are very important times to water to ensure the seedlings can live.

Heavenly North Bowl Chair auction raises $162,000 for South Lake Tahoe donations

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Heavenly Mountain resort's auction of the North Bowl chairs was a big success, with the 97 chairs going for a total of $162,000.

With those funds, Heavenly has donated $50,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, and an additional $50,000 to Ski Run Park. The remaining $62,000 will go towards the EpicPromise foundation which supports community grants and our employees in times of need.

Liberty Utilities sent an outstanding Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsor crew to help Bread & Broth volunteers at its Monday Meal on July 11. Superior Boat Repair and Sales donates $17,000 to Tahoe Fund

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - Superior Boat Repair and Sales presented a check for $17,069 to local nonprofit organization the Tahoe Fund during its annual “Surf Across Lake Tahoe” customer appreciation event. The funds, which came from a portion of boat sales and the Bill and Kristen Fenech Foundation, will support environmental improvement projects throughout the Tahoe Basin.

South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center just 3 feet away from huge payday at American Century Championship

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Every year during the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe, Korbel Korbel California Champagne® hosts its annual Celebrity Hole-in-One Contest where $250,000 is on the line.

On Friday after the first round of play, 12 celebrity golfers and one Korbel distributor representative tried to get it into the cup on one swing on the 17th hole. A local charity is selected to be the recipient of the funds should one of the celebrities get the hole-in-one. This year it was the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center.

Vail’s Heavenly Mountain Resort hosts Bread & Broth dinner

Two former Navy shipmates reunite in South Lake Tahoe after 56 years

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The year was 1962, and Orly Larson and David Kramer enlisted in the Navy from their perspective hometowns. Two years later the men met when they were assigned to the USS Belknap DLG26, a brand new guided-missile destroyer.

The two shipmates were both Radarmen Second Class, specializing in the Naval Tactical Data Systems. They were both members of the original commissioning crew, also known as “plank owners."

Orly and David served together for two years on the ship, until the end of their enlistments, from 1964-66.

Leadership Lake Tahoe raises almost $100K for Boys and Girls Club

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The Leadership Lake Tahoe Class of 2022 has presented a check in the amount of $96,348.30 to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. The class raised funds from May 4 – May 31 with a dollar-for-dollar donation match up to $50,000 by Untethered Workspace, Desolation Hotel, and Maggie’s Restaurant. The balance of $46,348.30 was raised through the class fundraiser and the full match was granted.

Transitional Living Program in South Lake Tahoe housing youth 16-22

Humane Society of Tahoe Truckee to give away pet emergency "go bags"

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is ensuring pets are as prepared as everyone else in case of an emergency, especially at the start of wildfire season. A generous grant from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation allowed HSTT to get pet “go bags” for emergency purposes, and there are still bags left in both South Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The bags are intended to be ready for “grab and go”, and will include almost everything your pet will need in case of an evacuation emergency.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary awards Whittell High School graduates scholarships

Each year, the Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club awards higher education scholarships to deserving Whittell High seniors in support of their post-secondary educational plans. The Rotary Scholarship Committee looks for students with character who have excelled in scholastics, leadership, athletics, and student activities.

The funds generated for these scholarships come through Tahoe Douglas Rotary’s selected annual fundraising events and related efforts within the community.

This is a wonderful opportunity for all Lake Tahoe South Shore children. Free food will be distributed weekly to children to ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals and snacks during the summer break from school. Children who have access to the free or reduced lunch program during the school year often have limited food resources during the summer, and the B&B Summer Program hopes to meet that need.

South Lake Tahoe broadband feasibility study and public surveys underway

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe has embarked on a Broadband Feasibility Study to identify how the City can improve broadband and internet service and infrastructure. NEO Connect, a broadband consulting firm, has been retained to conduct the analysis and present recommendations. The City Council recognizes the importance of high-speed broadband to the community in order to improve employment, educational, and economic development opportunities. The study directly addresses the City Council’s Strategic Priority 1.1 “Broadband for All” initiative.

South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club holding 18th annual Day in Paradise and Duck Races

The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club is holding the 18th annual Day in Paradise with Duck Races on Saturday, August 6 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be held at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers with the ducks traveling on the Upper Truckee River starting at 1 p.m.

Enjoy a day with a car show, food trucks, free kids games, live music, a beer garden, and a silent auction.

Duck race tickets are one for $5 or a six-quack for $30. First place duck wins $300, second at $200, and third walks away with $100. There are also business ducks for $100.

The Tahoe Fund and Friends of Ski Run extend matching campaign to $100,000 for Ski Run Community Park

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Fund and Friends of Ski Run announced on Tuesday the extension of their matching campaign for Ski Run Community Park. After meeting the initial $75,000 goal, the two organizations are now working toward a $100,000 match to build a custom bouldering wall in the park.

Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau to host July 4th Drone Skyshow

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has approved a Drone Skyshow for the 4th of July in lieu of fireworks for the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Vistors Bureau. The board conducted a public hearing Tuesday and voted unanimously to approve the license for the bureau.

They will be conducting a Drone Skyshow for the Fourth of July celebration in Incline Village that is high-quality, innovative, environmentally sustainable, and fire-safe.

South Lake Tahoe cannabis revenue grant awards announced

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 2022 Cannabis Revenue Grant Awards were announced during the South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday. During a previous meeting, the Council approved $400,000 to be dispersed through a grant program, the amount being equal to half of the cannabis revenue received by the City last year.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club holds new fundraising ball drop and golf tournament

Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club is hosting its new Charity Cup Golf Tournament Fundraiser this coming Saturday, June 25 at Genoa Lakes Golf Club.

To close out the shotgun format tournament there will be a Helicopter Golf Ball Drop. The helicopter will drop all sponsored golf balls above a designated course hole. The closest sponsored golf ball to the hole will win a week’s condo stay in Hawaii and $500.

Journey of Hope team cycling across country and makes stop in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Each year, more than 100 men embark on a cross-country cycling trip to test their limits, spread awareness, and celebrate the abilities of all people. With three routes kicking off on the West Coast, teams spend the summer crossing the country over a combined 12,000 miles with an arrival at the Capitol Lawn in Washington DC to mark the end of a life-changing event. Along the way, the team spreads the message of disability awareness through local media and makes stops at partner organizations where they deliver joy to their friends from the disability community. 

Poet Laureate Begins Literary Tour of El Dorado County: Laureate Trail Visits Six Libraries Starting June 22

Martin Slough Multimodal Trail connect Minden and Gardnerville and new fishing pond

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Construction crews have wrapped up work on the Martin Slough Multimodal Trail project and it is now completed. The path connects Minden and Gardnerville and to Minden’s new fishing pond located south of Buckeye Road. The Martin Slough Trail is a great amenity for Douglas County as it offers residents and tourists alike a chance to enjoy the great outdoors on a paved trail and additionally provides a pathway for residents to utilize full bike and walking access to the Minden and Gardnerville downtown areas.

Fundraiser golf tournament for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. Author Lori Howell Thompson, known for her book Living in Harmony with the Wildlife in Lake Tahoe, is hosting a fundraiser for the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a golf tournament on August 20, 2022.

Participants will enjoy a tournament and reception starting at 11:30 a.m. with a putting contest, moving into a scramble with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. and outdoor buffet reception at 5:30 p.m.

Group of four: $800
Individual: $225
Includes:
• Green fees for 18 holes
• Cart fees - 2 players per cart
• Practice range balls
