Earth Day Cleanup in South Lake Tahoe

As the snow melts, winter litter is exposed. Help us celebrate Earth Day and kick off the start of Tahoe's warm weather by joining us for a good, old-fashioned community cleanup! It looks like Mother Earth gave us much-needed precipitation for Earth Day. Due to the weather, the cleanup has been moved from April 22 to April 25.

Jazz Masters Concert moved to Friday morning at South Tahoe High

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District's Jazz Masters Concert originally scheduled for Thursday, April 21 has been rescheduled due to the school snow day today.

It will be held on Friday, April 22 at 11:30 a.m. at South Tahoe High School's TADA Building.

Parents and community members are invited and asked to RSVP with music teacher, Jordan Bagheri via email at jbagheri@ltusd.org. The concert, featuring the STHS Jazz ensemble, STHS Choir, and the University of Pacific Assembly will also be live-streamed on Viking TV (VTV) here.

Tahoe Art League announces logo contest winners

The Tahoe Art League wishes to thank everyone who participated in their logo contest. They had entries from as far away as Finland and from people as young as 16! Judges said it was a tough decision. There were many very creative versions of the lake theme, painting/paintbrush themes, and even one wonderful entry that featured Tahoe Tesse!

Western Days to celebrate South Lake Tahoe history and US50 Wagon Train

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is presenting Western Days, a two-day celebration of local history and the annual US50 Wagon Train.

On June 4, join in the fun at the Lake Tahoe History Museum complex in South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be an old-fashioned western shootout, a Chautauqua presentation of a member of the Donner Party, horse, and carriage rides, kids games from an era gone by, live music, food, drink, and vendors. There will be tours of the museum, 1930s cabin, and the Osgood Toll House.

Presentation on new Multi-Generational Recreation and Aquatic Center at next recreation commission meeting

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Commission will receive a presentation by the firm, JK Architecture Engineering on the new Multi-Generational Recreation and Aquatic Center at its next meeting.

The meeting is on Wednesday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the current recreation center located at 1180 Rufus Allen Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe.

The ground is scheduled to break on the new facility this year.

Help "Cram-A-Cruiser " with Bread & Broth 4 Kids in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth 4 Kids is asking the local community for help in filling a South Lake Tahoe Police cruiser full of food for its weekend food program. Each week, food-insecure students from Lake Tahoe Unified School District get a bag of food for the weekend when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available. Bread & Broth 4 Kids also provides weekly food during the summer.

"Cram-A-Cruiser" is being held on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Grocery Outlet, 2358 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

El Dorado Community Foundation has opened its first-ever consolidated grant cycles.

Nonprofit organizations are welcome to apply for multiple grants so long as:
The nonprofit is in good standing with the IRS, SOS, and DOJ (AG).
The organization qualifies for the grant cycles.

Barton Health Foundation to award $100k to those engaged in health and well-being of Lake Tahoe community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Guided by the results of the Community Health Needs Assessment, Barton Health Foundation partners with local non-profit organizations to support programs and initiatives that are aimed at addressing unmet health needs. Mental Health, Substance Use, and Access to Care rank highest among a long list of concerns in the Lake Tahoe region. The Barton Health Foundation awards grants to non-profit organizations that provide support for members of the community who face these issues.

Learn how to skate during free session at the Tahoe Ice Arena

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Ice Arena is offering a free "Learn How to Skate" session on Saturday, April 16 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

This session is geared towards children aged 4-10 years old who are looking to learn the basic fundamentals of ice skating. Classes are designed around fun, and focus on balance, learning how to fall and get up, and stride development.

Skates are provided free of charge, and all sessions after April 16 are $10 and are pay-as-you-go. Helmets are encouraged and are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

David Jack: First wrestler added to South Lake Tahoe's Champion Plaza

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a walk down memory lane Thursday as David Jack was honored with a personalized brick at South Lake Tahoes Champion's Plaza. Surrounded by friends, family, city officials, and the wrestling community, the star wrestler was honored for his accomplishments on the mats from South Tahoe High to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to the Olympic Trials.

David was the first California state wrestling finalist to come from South Tahoe High School.

He Said STHS has always put out great skiers, and he wanted to be a good wrestler but there was no roadmap.

National Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week is April 10 through 16, 2022. This is a time to recognize the many contributions of Animal Services officers, shelter and office staff, and Animal Services volunteers in El Dorado County.

Ski Run Community Park block party and groundbreaking May 1

South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade is back: “Tahoe Strong, A Salute to Our Heroes”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has announced the return of the 4th of July Parade for 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted many community events, the Parade being one of them, which resulted in a two-year hiatus. In addition to bringing back the parade this year, the City has created a theme for the event: “Tahoe Strong, A Salute to Our Heroes.”

Also new this year will be the 'Best of the Parade' awards. A judging panel will score all parade entries, and trophies will be awarded for the following categories:

Tot Egg Hunt with Tahoe Douglas firefighters and Kahle Community Center

Tahoe Valley students shine in production of Annie KIDS

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office unveils 2022 autism vehicle

What started as an annual company meeting for Chase International turned into an unprecedented 20-minute event that raised $100,000 to support “Operation Save the Tahoe Basin” fundraising project to purchase a Fire Rescue Helicopter. Before the meeting on March 23, Chase International representatives and EKN Development Group, developers of the former Tahoe Biltmore in Crystal Bay, Nevada, spearheaded the idea before their annual meeting.

It is an evening of fun for South Lake Tahoe area special needs kids and adults with free pizza, free skates, a visit with the Ski Patrol Dogs, and more. The ski patrol will be pushing participants on sleds and they will also be organizing an inclusive hockey game. Everyone can use the sleds to support themselves independently while skating.

Tahoe Connection for Families holding scramble golf tournament at Incline Village golf course

Tahoe Connection for Families (TCF) is holding an 18-hole four-peron scramble golf tournament on Sunday, June 5 at the Incline Village Championship Golf Course.

South Tahoe Futbol Club holding May golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe

The South Tahoe Futbol Club is holding an 18-hole golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. There will be a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. Tournament check-in is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The format of the tournament: Each golfer plays their own ball with the team's score on each hole being the lower of the four players' scores. Only one golfer of the group is required to complete each hole. The winners are the team with the lowest aggregate score over a set number of holes.

South Lake Tahoe teen collects supplies for Ukrainians

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Jaymee Levin saw the devastation on television after Russia attacked Ukraine and she once again jumped into action to help the people of the war-torn county.

Jaymee is a 16-year-old homeschooled student with South Lake Tahoe's Clarksville Academy. As she watched the news she saw babies, children, teens, and adults struggling with the cold in Ukraine as they were walking miles to get to safety. She jumped into action and spent a week collecting warm jackets, coats, beanies, gloves, and blankets from the South Lake Tahoe community for the Ukrainian refugees.

Daily protests against Russian invasion of Ukraine held in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you've been near the Y in South Lake Tahoe between 11:00 a.m. and noon you've probably heard the honks and seen the groups of people gathered with their yellow and blue signs and flags showing support of Ukraine.

Jana Menard, a local business owner, started the daily events in support of Ukraine.

"I couldn't sit back and not do anything," said Menard, who owns the Fragrance Vault near Stateline. "I wanted to go to the front line."

El Dorado County school boards and community members recognized

At an awards ceremony on March 14, the El Dorado County School Boards Association (EDCSBA) recognized school board and community members for their 2021 contributions. County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ed Manansala, facilitated the presentations and noted, “After an extraordinary two years, it is a pleasure to be together again and to recognize and celebrate the work of all the leaders in the room tonight. Congratulations to all of our award recipients!”

Volunteers needed to help with Bread & Broth Monday night meals

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth will return to its traditional Monday Meal program on Monday, April 4. After two years of packing food for distribution twice a week, they are excited to return to cooking hot meals and serving guests inside of Grace Hall from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. each Monday.

The all-volunteer nonprofit is in need of helpers in order to continue to make this program successful.

Volunteers serve just one Monday a month and there are a variety of opportunities open and available:

Pet foster volunteers needed for Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe as numbers increase

The pandemic has led to an unprecedented number of animals in need, and the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is expanding its reach to help shelters from all over the country, and volunteers are needed.

The HSTT has always been committed to saving and helping 100 percent of the pets in the Truckee and Eastern Placer County area, as well as helping many other shelters whenever possible. In 2021 the HSTT worked with 30 different shelters around the country, rescuing more than 400 animals in the process.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - TubeTahoe is hosting Local Heroes Day on Sunday, March 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All South Shore, South Lake Tahoe, and Meyers area law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders, and their families, are invited to a fun, free day of tubing.

They are offering the free day as a way of saying "thank you" for protecting the community from the Caldor Fire. Those who had a part in saving the area are being invited to bring a picnic and enjoy a special outdoor event.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Barton Health Foundation’s 2022 Mother’s Day Golf Classic will tee off on Sunday, May 8, at Edgewood Golf Course in Stateline, Nev. All funds raised at the event will benefit community members facing cancer through Barton Oncology.

Registration is open to the public.

Barton Oncology provides support and education during cancer treatment and survivorship, offering lab work, radiographic tests, telemedicine visits, diagnostics, and infusion services.

Operation School Bell provides South Lake Tahoe students with much-needed clothing

The Assistance League Sierra Foothills (ALSF) helps to transform the lives of youth and seniors in El Dorado County through six philanthropic programs. One of those programs, Operation School Bell, provides clothing to students in all school districts and has helped those attending Lake Tahoe Unified School District since 2011. This past year, over 200 children were able to go shopping in a "store" set up at the South Tahoe Association of Realtors office.

Collection of art books from the late David Foster to be featured at Friends of the Library sale

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A selection of books from the family of South Lake Tahoe's illustrious artist David Foster will be featured at the Friends of the Library Book Sale on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

Joanne Foster, David's widow, donated his collection of art books to be generously given away, at no cost, in an effort to share David's love of art.

Maureen Stuhlman honored during SLT Council meeting as member of historic Mighty Macs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In honor of Women's History Month, Maureen Stuhlman of the South Lake Tahoe Code Enforcement team was celebrated during Tuesday's City Council meeting. Not only has she been an integral member of the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) enforcement team since 2013, but she was also a member of the championship college basketball team known as the Mighty Macs from small Immaculata College. The school is credited with being the birthplace of modern American women’s basketball and the subject of the 2011 movie, The Mighty Macs.
