Funds available for pet owners affected by the Tamarack and Caldor Fires

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thanks to a generous donation, the Tahoe PAWS Community Animal Response Team (CART) is now able to offer funds to victims of the Tamarack and Caldor Fires who have incurred pet needs and expenses due to the devastating fires.

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is holding its 43rd annual See's Candy Sale Fundraiser at the American Legion Post 795 from Dec. 11 to Dec. 19 from 10;00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. each day.

The Cancer League provides transportation for cancer patients from the South Shore to their chemotherapy appointments as well as providing cash grants for struggling patients.

Santa's elves visit the Children's Memorial Tree in South Lake Tahoe

The Elves did it again!! They visited the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree in the park at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Wildwood Avenue for the 11th straight year, leaving behind signs of Christmas with stockings and decorations.

There is a stocking at the tree for the over 250 children who are memorialized there.

The memorial was created 30 years ago when tragedy struck the local community when South Tahoe High students Rory Hrbacek, Sandy Haynes, and Casey Wells died in a single-vehicle accident on Pioneer Trail.

Tahoe Fund grants $30,250 to regional volunteer search and rescue organizations

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Tahoe Fund granted $30,250 to Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Hasty Team for critical equipment upgrades. These two regional volunteer search and rescue teams, who collectively responded to over 120 missions last year, now have new tools to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of future rescues.

Compass opens new South Lake Tahoe real estate office

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Compass, Inc. has expanded real estate services into South Lake Tahoe with the opening of a new office in The Crossing at Tahoe Valley, 2028 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

Twenty agents are joining the new South Lake Tahoe office. Compass also has other Tahoe offices in Incline Village, Truckee, Tahoe City, Squaw Valley. This year they have also launched 15 major new markets including North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana, and Minnesota.

DCSO reminds public of road closures before and during Parade of Lights Saturday

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The annual Parade of Lights will be held on Saturday, December 4 at 5:00 p.m. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is reminding the public about the road closures which will occur prior to the start of the parade.

Roads will close approximately 30 minutes before the parade begins.

Parade floats will begin to roll from Heritage Park onto Main Street from Eddy Street and will head north through town, make a left on Esmeralda, and make their way to the end at Minden Town Park.

Angel of Tahoe spreads Christmas cheer to South Lake Tahoe children

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Tahoe Youth & Family Services is helping spread cheer this season by purchasing gifts for children in need thanks to Lisa Maloff.

Due to the pandemic, the agency was unable to host a Christmas party as they normally do. However, gifts were purchased and wrapped for children who receive services through the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Family Resource Center, and Live Violence Free.

TAMBA starts [Re]Build the Future: December Donor Drive to fix trails damaged in Caldor Fire

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) announced a month-long fundraiser called the [Re]Build the Future: December Donor Drive to motivate support of efforts to rebuild and restore trails impacted by the recent Caldor Fire. Funds raised before the end of the year will allow the non-profit organization to address these challenges so they may continue developing 50 miles of multi-use trail basin-wide.

Rock climbing inspires change for residents of the Juvenile Treatment Center in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Youth housed at the Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) in South Lake Tahoe were recently treated to a unique experience. Through a partnership with the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE), Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC), and the El Dorado County Probation Department, the LTCC Wilderness Education and Outdoor Leadership program brought a 40-foot rock climbing wall into the JTC.

The youth, who attend the Blue Ridge Court School housed in the JTC, were able to challenge their skills and comfort level on the wall.

During COVID-19, blood donations have been down but the need has not disappeared.

The next blood drive in South Lake Tahoe will be held on Friday, December 3 from noon to 5:00 p.m.

Donors must be at least 16 years of age.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Christmas Engine schedule

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue has set its schedule for the popular Christmas engine.

Starting on December 10, the engine will start its nightly route from Station 1 each night at 5:00 p.m. and cruise through the designated neighborhoods listed below, handing out candy canes for everyone.

Soroptimist Club of South Lake Tahoe holding Giving Tuesday fundraiser instead of annual wine tasting

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) normally holds its annual Evening of Food & Wine Tasting each November, but due to COVID-19 concerns, it was canceled for 2021. This year was going to be a special one too, the 50th annual event.

This is normally SISLT’s biggest fundraiser, and without it, the non-profit organization is unable to raise the necessary funds to support causes throughout the community.

SISLT was established in 1958 and strives to be a powerful source to recognize and serve the greatest needs in our community. Some of the club's accomplishments:

Tahoe Fund seeks proposals for projects that will improve the Lake Tahoe environment

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - As an organization focused on getting impactful projects done in the Lake Tahoe Basin, the Tahoe Fund is once again excited to open up its annual Call for Projects. Tahoe Fund has had a lasting impact on the region, funding more than 60 environmental projects and securing over $50M in public funding in the past decade. The organization is now seeking new projects that align with its strategic plan to add to its portfolio in 2022.

Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe has puppies and kittens available on Giving Tuesday

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is once again having a special puppy and kitten adoption day for Giving Tuesday. Don't need a new furry family member? They are also accepting donations, and all donations made on Tuesday, November 30 will be matched up to $100,000.

There are sixteen puppies and kittens that are up for adoption, and all adoptions will take place online.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, people interested must complete a questionnaire. They will not be accepted prior to that time.

$500,000 in community donations for Tahoe Magic

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With the support and backing of the South Lake Tahoe community, Tahoe Magic has been able to help thousands of families with rental assistance in the amount of $500,000 since the onset of the pandemic.

Thank you to all who have donated to Tahoe Magic over the past 20 months.

With these donations, Tahoe Magic has assisted local families who are/were in crisis monthly since the pandemic started. Over the past three months, they have been above to give out $55,000 because of the added trauma of the Caldor Fire in El Dorado County.

Lake Tahoe Historical Society offering giant 3D paper flake class

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A popular holiday tradition returns at the Lake Tahoe Historial Museum on Monday, December 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Make your own giant 3D paper flake in a class offered just once this season.

The cost is $10 for members, $12 for non-members. You'll make one for yourself, and at least one more for the museum. Additional patterns are available for $6. Please bring sharp scissors.

The class is limited to the first 12 people signing up and reservations are required.

The Bently Foundation and MH Buckeye start $500,000 matching grant for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All donations to the planned Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Animal Hospital and Care Unit are going to be matched dollar for dollar thanks to donations from the Bently Foundation and MH Buckeye, a private donor.

Between them, they are matching all donations made to the nonprofit up to $500,000 with a grant, Donate Once, Make Twice the Impact.

This year’s multiple, devastating fires have not only created an immediate wild animal medical emergency, but also a long-term healthcare need for Lake Tahoe’s wildlife.

Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe hosting public vaccination clinic for 5-12 year olds

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In partnership with the City of South Lake Tahoe and Barton Hospital, the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) will be hosting a vaccination clinic for children aged 5 to 12 years in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 23.

Local Girl Scouts learn to rock climb in South Lake Tahoe

Nearly 40 local Girl Scouts from the Tahoe Shores service unit and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada attended a recent Rock Climbing Day hosted by Troop 722 at Blue Granite Climbing Gym. Girls were taught about the equipment and skills by the gym’s experienced climbing staff. Many earned their Climbing Adventure Badge or worked on some of the skills required to complete the badge for their level in Girl Scouts.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Enjoy Christmas Tree Lane this holiday season. There will be a fun "parade of trees" hosted by 13 South Lake Tahoe businesses during a new fundraising event for Live Violence Free.

At each of the businesses, there will be decorated trees available for viewing between November 26 - December 17, 2021. The trees will then be given away to lucky winners entering the contest and donating all day on the 17th.

Free coffee at Cuppa Tahoe for local first responders from Guild Mortgage

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Guild Mortgage of Minden is giving thanks to local first responders from El Dorado County for protecting the community. They are all invited to stop by Cuppa Tahoe in uniform and receive a free coffee from November 22-28, 2021.

The invitation includes Lake Valley Fire, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, South Lake Tahoe Police and Fire and they are all invited to enjoy a 12-ounce coffee.

Lake Tahoe Chanukah celebration to include carved ice menorah at Ski Run Marina

Wreaths Across America ceremony in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Happy Homestead Cemetery on December 18, 2021, as wreaths are placed in honor of veterans. The Wreaths Across America (WAA) ceremony honoring active military personnel, veterans, and first responders will begin at 9:00 a.m.

The South Lake Tahoe chapter joins others from around the country in placing the wreaths on gravesites for the holidays.

Veterans and first responders honored in South Lake Tahoe ceremony

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Veterans, families, and the community attended today's Veterans Day celebration at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe.

Almost 100 people attended the ceremony, traditionally held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This was when the guns fell silent on the battlefields of World War 1 after Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiegne, France.

Those gathered also honored the first responders in attendance from South Lake Tahoe Fire and Police departments with a standing ovation.

Barton Foundation awards $100,000 to 12 South Lake Tahoe non-profits

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Barton Foundation’s Community Health Grants program recently awarded $100,000 in funding to 12 local non-profit organizations engaged in healthcare-related initiatives in South Lake Tahoe.

The non-profit organizations were chosen for their work in addressing the areas most pressing healthcare needs—Mental Health, Substance Use, and Access to Healthcare—as identified by the Community Health Needs Assessment. Since 2008, the Barton Foundation has provided over $600,000 in funding to local agencies that support community members facing these challenges.

South Lake Tahoe neighborhood raises $8,350 for Lake Valley Firefighter Foundation

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After the Barton Foundation decided to not have its annual Festival of Tree and Lights in 2021, South Tahoe High School stepped in and will host its first Winter Festival on December 3 and 4. The event will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. each night.

The Winter Festival will be completely run by students and will feature many of the favorite Barton events around the school, student union, screening room, sports medicine therapy room, theater, and food trucks will be in front of the school in the Circle.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dogs and cats in South Lake Tahoe and Truckee will be benefitting all month long at Flatstick Pub, the area's first indoor mini-golf course.

Drink and Putt for a Cause will be held each Sunday in November to raise funds for the Humane Society and Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT). The pub will donate $1 from every beer and $1 from every golf game sold in their monthly event, Sunday FundRaise.

Veterans to be honored at American Legion ceremony in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 will host a Veterans Day program on Thursday, the 11th of November at 11:00 a.m. at their Hall location of 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

The ceremony will be held rain or shine and will move indoors in the case of inclement weather.

Entertainment for the event will be provided by Davin Kangas and Jill. Maria will be on the bagpipes and the Girl Scouts will be handing out flags.*

Douglas County to honor veterans at special appreciation event

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A Veterans Day Appreciation event will be held on November 10 at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. Originally scheduled for the CVIC Hall, it has been moved to the center's Grandview Dining Room, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The County is partnering with Suicide Prevention Network to honor the area's Veterans during this event, which will include entertainment, the presentation of branches, guest speakers, raffle prizes, resource information, and more.

Night of comedy at LTCC to raise money for Caldor Fire Relief Fund

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Black Ice Theater Co. is holding a night of comedy on November 19 to raise money for the Caldor Fire Fund and local theater.

Headliner Howie Nave, billed as "Comedian, Radio Host, Facebook Jail Escapee & Local Celebrity" will be featured along with local resident Paul Bronken (aka That 70's Guy) and Darlene Pearson. The hilarious evening will be hosted by Black Ice's own Ellen Martin.
