Snider is known for performing in his bare feet and drawing his violin bow into curly frays. The rhythm section – bassist Zach Terán and drummer Miguel Jiménez-Cruz – also play Reno contemporary pop group The Novelists, which has played at Valhalla multiple times.

Heavenly Mountain Resort to auction off North Bowl lift chairs for charity

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a rare opportunity coming up to own a retired ski lift chair while also helping the South Lake Tahoe community. Vail's Heavenly Mountain Resort is upgrading the North Bowl lift to a high-speed quad for next season, and the 97 chairs on the old lift are going to be auctioned off.

Own a piece of local ski history in a charity auction of all the retired three-person chairs.

$25,000 donation made to American Red Cross during Meek's celebration

MEYERS, Calif. - Meek's Lumber held a grand reopening celebration on Wednesday at its Meyers location.

Part of the fun was the presentation of a check for $25,000 that was presented to the American Red Cross by the US LBM Foundation benefitting the Caldor Fire on behalf of Meeks Lumber. The foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by leading specialty building materials distributor US LBM.

Since 2016, Tahoe Women's Community Fund donates $537,018 to local nonprofits

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In just seven years, the Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) has spread out $537,018 to South Lake Tahoe area nonprofits, with the latest group receiving checks at a celebration Tuesday

TWCF is a collective giving organization created in 2015 in South Lake Tahoe when Wendy David and Kathy Haven sat down to create a group for the community and made up of the community. Today there are 208 members and a board of directors.

CodeFu summer enrichment camps in South Lake Tahoe this summer

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Looking for summer camps for the kids this year? CodeFu Lake Tahoe is holding coding and exploration camps based at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center in June, July, and August.

Families local to the Lake Tahoe Basin, South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville will have first priority. Families visiting Lake Tahoe can plan ahead. Drop-in days are available.

The camp will be held Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Half-day camps are $249 a week, and full-day is $389 a week. Drop-in rates are $89 per day.

Meek's Meyers holding Grand Reopening Celebration

County supervisor candidates hold events this week

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - With ballots now in the hands of voters, the four candidates for the county supervisor for District 5 are holding more meet-and-greet events, giving the voters a chance to ask questions.

This week there are three events:

Exciting news for the Jewish Community at Lake Tahoe

Rabbi Mordey and Shaina Richler, co-directors of Chabad at Lake Tahoe, are excited to share the TAHOME project, the purchase of a new, permanent location for the Jewish community to call home. The ambitious $3,000,000 project includes the purchase and renovation of a beautiful building. The Jewish center will be the first for Douglas County, Nevada and will be a beacon of light to the entire community, providing social and humanitarian programs and teaching meaningful education in the ways of morality and ethics with an appreciation for divine inviolable values.

The American Legion Auxiliary extends our sincere thanks to Helen Johnson for her generous donation of $5,000 to Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795. The donation will be used for much-needed electrical, chimney, parking area repairs, and the replacement of the recently stolen highway sign. The generosity of individuals like Ms. Johnson helps keep Post 795 doors open.

South Lake Tahoe Cub Scouts help plant seedlings in Caldor Fire area

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Cub Scout Pack 592 spent the day April 30 with the Sugar Pine Foundation, Wells Fargo, and other community members and helped plant 1,000 Sugar Pine and Jeffrey Pine seedlings. They planted them in the Mule Deer/Angora area that had been bulldozed to make fire lines created during the Caldo Fire last year.

This community service project was the third tree-planting effort that the Cub Scouts have participated in this year, and will likely become an annual event.

Soroptimists of Tahoe Sierra give $18,800 in scholarships and awards to area students

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Twenty-three students from South Tahoe High (STHS), George Whittell High (GWHS), Mt. Tallac High, and South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) were honored by Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) on Thursday, May 12.

$18,800 was handed out in scholarships and awards to the following students:

Harrah's and Harveys hold inaugural Walk a Mile in Her Shoes for Live Violence Free

Male staff members with Caesars Entertainment, Harrah's, and Harveys took part in the first Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on the South Shore Tuesday. The men put on high heels and walked a mile around the casino corridor to not only raise funds for Live Violence Free, but to bring awareness to sexual assault, rape, and gender violence.

Forty-two people participated, and non-staff members taking part included a CalFire firefighter, local comedian Howie Nave, and contractor The Service Company.

Rescued puppy Captain Mugshot now with Truckee Police Department

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee Police Department is thrilled to introduce the newest member of its command staff, Captain Mugshot. Originally named Billy Bob, this sweet 8-month-old, English bulldog was found in Kern County where he was picked up as a stray and placed with a local rescue group. That group reached out to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) where he, along with several other dogs, were quickly transferred to the Truckee shelter.

The June 9 performance of TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will be a benefit concert for Between Horses and Humans. The show will be held at Trinity Lutheran, 1480 Douglas Ave, Gardnerville at 7 p.m.

Between Horses and Humans helps youth in South Lake Tahoe and Nevada’s rural counties who face many challenges to their mental and emotional health. The area’s severe shortage of mental health providers means that youth aren't always able to receive the mental and emotional support services they need.

I have known Tamara Wallace for about 30 years, from the first time she joined the Lake Tahoe Kiwanis Club. Even back then she was interested in helping people.

As South Lake Tahoe Chamber CEO, her organizational skills and ability to bring clarity to the situations we faced in our city, made decision-making for the board easy. She usually didn’t take sides, but instead explained the pros and cons of the issues. To do that she had to think through the issues.

El Nido Motel transformed into Bird's Nest Supportive Housing Community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After receiving funds from the State of California Homekey program, the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) purchased three motels in South Lake Tahoe to be transformed into units for those experiencing homelessness.

One of those motels, the El Nido Motel, has been renovated and is now called the Bird's Nest supportive housing community, centrally located at 2215 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Food Bank of El Dorado County is hosting an evening of fun for the community on Saturday, April 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This will be an evening of live music, food, beverages, and the groundbreaking of the new Emergency Resource Center.

This is not a fundraiser, and everything will be free of charge.

All Caldor Fire survivors attending must be preregistered in order to receive monetary assistance.

Nonprofits, businesses, service clubs, agencies, and individuals wishing to have a booth at the event are welcome.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care to accept volunteer applications

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Volunteers are needed at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC), and for the first time in two years, they are accepting applications starting May 7.

LTWC’s animal care team and seasonal volunteers care for hundreds of wild birds and animals at their South Lake Tahoe facility. Animal care teams provide the much-needed medical care, sustenance, and enrichment - all skills to ensure their patients’ successful return to the wild.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - School bus drivers and the mechanics who keep the buses moving play an important role in the daily lives of children. The drivers are tasked with the vital responsibility of protecting children on their way to and from school.

Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe distributing free pet emergency bags donated by Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation

As many experienced in the Caldor and Tamarack fires in 2021, evacuating is a very emotional and difficult task for those without pets, and even more daunting for those with dogs and cats.

Thanks to a generous donation by the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) will be distributing "to-go" bags for pets starting Friday, April 29, 2022.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe renovating softball field

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Years in the making, women from the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe club have renovated the softball field for the community to enjoy. Two of the three sets of bleachers are in, the Soroptimist Stadium scoreboard is up, new fences are in place, new benches are installed, and new soil and sod are now in the infield and outfield.

The club is making a $325,000 investment in the girls of the community with a softball field to be proud of. Brooke Laine, the project lead, said South Lake Tahoe will be seen as a community where girls are valued.

Tahoe Chamber hosting forums for El Dorado County supervisor and Douglas County commissioner races
