Transient arrested after man stabbed at South Lake Tahoe bus stop

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF -A transient man is behind bars this evening after allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old man at the South Y Transit center.

At 5:33 p.m. Saturday, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a call of a stabbing at the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd and Emerald Bay Road.

Upon arrival they found Kiefer Chriss, 57, being held down on the ground by some Good Samaritans and a 27-year-old male stabbing victim.

The unidentified victim, also a transient, suffered a stab wound in the neck and to the upper torso. He was transferred to Barton Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening wounds according to SLTPD Office Matt Morrison.

Keifer was arrested and booked on a charge of Attempted Murder with no bail set at this time. Keifer was previously arrested in South Lake Tahoe in September, 2017. During that incident he was found in a pick up truck behind the Fitness Evolution gym after gunshots were heard in the area. He ignored police demands to stop as he attempted to leave in a truck, leading officers on a brief chase that ended when he rammed a SLTPD vehicle.

The suspect has different birthdates and names on his identifications. The current ID shows him as being 57-years-old, but during his arrest in September his ID showed him as 42, with the same name.

This case is still under investigation.

The South Y Transit Center was the scene of a previous stabbing on March 24, 2017. In that case a fight over cigarette smoking took place between two transients at the bus stop, ending up with one being stabbed. Two others in the area jumped in to assist but suffered stab wounds as well.

In other SLTPD activity Saturday, officers responded to the scene of a hit and run collision at the intersection of Highway 50 and Sierra Boulevard at about 7:30 a.m.

There were no injuries but one car was left damaged in the middle of travel lanes after being hit while the other vehicle took off. There were multiple witnesses and one of them followed the suspect car to Tahoe Keys Liquor where the female driver parked her vehicle and started walking away. Officers stopped her at the corner of 3rd Street and Highway 50.

The case is being prepared to be send to the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office according to Morrison. No alcohol or drugs appear to be involved.
