South Lake Tahoe grocery stores trying to fill shelves
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/16/2020 - 9:50amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to grocery items flying off the shelves at stores, some local businesses have changed their hours to allow time to restock. Hot items are toilet paper, paper towels, milk, eggs, and canned food items.
Both Safeway stores on the South Shore have changed their hours to 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. instead of being 24-hours. The pharmacy hours have remained the same.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The annual Tahoe Chamber Business EXPO will be held on Friday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Harrah's Tahoe. It was originally scheduled for March 27 but postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler says goodbye; March retirement date set

Chief Brian Uhler will be wrapping up a 40-year career in law enforcement when he retires from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on March 12, 2020. He has been the second-longest serving chief, coming within a couple of months of the City's second police chief, John Crow.
Sales tax revenues increase in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/26/2020 - 4:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Quarterly reports on the sales tax received by the City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County (EDC) were released this week. The quarter ending September 2019 shows the County's taxable sales in the unincorporated area grew by 4.3 percent when compared to the same period in 2018. In South Lake Tahoe, taxable sales grew by 6.0 percent. County-wide including both cities within its boundaries saw a 5.1 percent increase. In comparison, the Sacramento region was up 4.5 percent.

The Moose Lodge sponsored their annual Adopt A Day (AAD) of Nourishment by donating $300 to cover the costs of the food and associated expenses necessary to provide the hot, full-course meal served at the dinner.

The fruits of their efforts were presented to TAP during their public Williams Duo concert on Januar 30.
Each year Azul Latin Kitchen selects a local nonprofit to be the recipient of their fundraising for the year. In 2017 it was Tahoe Youth and Family Services, last year Live Violence Free, then in 2019 TAP.

Caesars Entertainment announces sale of Harrah's Reno

On Thursday, Caesars Entertainment Corporation and VICI Properties Inc. announced in a press release they signed an agreement to sell Harrah’s Reno Hotel and Casino to an affiliate of CAI Investments for $50 million.

Everett was born at the hospital's Family Birthing Center to Robert Haen and Shaina Willen, MD. He weighed six pounds 15 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Former California State Senator Ted Gaines will be in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday, January 9 to discuss the proposed amendment to Proposition 13 that will remove commercial properties from their property tax protection and tax them on market value and not purchase price.
Gaines is a member of the California Board of Equalization for the 1st district. He will be speaking during the monthly meeting of the South Lake Tahoe Lodging Association and the public is invited.
The meeting will be held at the LTVA meeting space at 169 US-50 Stateline, Nev. 9:30 a.m.

25 minors were issued citations for alcohol issues by the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) at SnowGlobe and they issued eight violations to businesses outside the venue.
South Lake Tahoe community responds to Wishing Tree at Live Violence Free

The nonprofit agency in South Lake Tahoe provides advocacy and education to promote a violence-free community.
Each client wrote down three gift ideas with ages and likes, and people picked out a hanging ornament with that list, all amounting to about $50 per child.

As the Kincade Fire in Sonoma and the Easy Fire in Southern California raged, a camera in Lake Tahoe spotted a small fire on the West Shore. Fire crews were able to respond and quickly put it out.

The City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Arts Alliance are partnering for an art gallery reception on Monday, December 2 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at City Hall located at 1901 Lisa Maloff Way, South Lake Tahoe.

Judge rules that South Lake Tahoe cannabis microbusiness approvals can move forward

The judge ruled on Friday, November 22 that his previous order will not affect microbusinesses, just retail sales, according to South Lake Tahoe City Attorney Heather Stroud who was in Sacramento for the ruling.
Local man files temporary injunction; South Lake Tahoe cannabis permit process on hold

Local business owner John Runnels filed a temporary injunction against the City of South Lake Tahoe, the City Council and the Development Services Director Kevin Fabino in Superior Court in Sacramento Friday afternoon. That action has put a temporary halt to all cannabis-related permits being processed in the city until a December 20 court date.

Now, the popular caterer is operating out of the Tahoe Seasons Resort in South Lake Tahoe with an expanded menu.
Mullen has been providing room service at the resort along with box lunches and a robust menu for six months, and now, after a busy summer, he is now focusing on specialty nights at the Fireside Bar located in the newly remodeled lobby along with a regular menu.

Group of South Lake Tahoe businesses "Pay it Forward" to employees

All profits made during the day go back to the employees. While staff can do whatever they want with the money they are encouraged to reach out and help someone less fortunate.
"Let the ripples begin," said Ted Kennedy via Facebook as he encouraged people to support the businesses participating in the special day. He is a partner at the restaurants and gym taking part in "Pay It Forward Day."
South Lake Tahoe to create an ordinance for electric scooters

The popular mode of transportation is used by millions worldwide and provides over 100,000 annual rides in South Lake Tahoe.
But the illegal use by minors and a flaw in the Lime app process has drawn concern from local law enforcement and residents.

Cannabis businesses not allowed under Meyers Area Plan, for now

The Meyers Area Plan does not meet the permitted zones for the retail sales, cultivation, delivery and manufacturing licenses that will be issued.
There are a few locations in the unincorporated areas of El Dorado County on the East Slope (Lake Tahoe area) that could fit the requirements between Meyers and South Lake Tahoe and Tahoma.

We love the cold deep blue waters of Lake Tahoe, the rugged mountains, and the varied forests that are part of the nearly 100 million acres of land all Californians can claim ownership of. We love these public lands not just because of their natural beauty, but because they are central to our way of life. Power outage in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/01/2019 - 12:41pm3:45 p.m. update: Crews have been able to re-route power to re-energize most customers. The remaining customers are expected to be re-energized by 5:30 pm and then crews will focus on the long term repairs through the night.
3:20 p.m. update: Power has been restored to about half of those affected by the earlier outage. Liberty Utilities says the remaining 3,184 customers should have power restored by 3:41 p.m.
South Lake Tahoe to become Sister City with Ameca in Jalisco, Mexico
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/01/2019 - 12:16pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe is on its way to becoming the Sister City with the City of Ameca, State of Jalisco, Mexico. This will be the first Sister City for South Lake Tahoe since its former relationship with Baikalsk, Russia ended.
On August 20, long-time local resident and educator Tere Tibbets brought the subject to the City Council and the process to become a Sister City began. Los Mexicanos Restaurant owner Victor Mora had the idea and worked with Tibbetts to bring it to fruition.

Redefining Organics gets go ahead for cannabis business from Planning Commission
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/13/2019 - 6:11pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first cannabis business to be created after the passage of an ordinance approved by the South Lake Tahoe City Council passed a big hurdle Thursday. The South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission voted 5-0 to approved the cannabis use permit application for Redefining Organics, LLC and recommended to the City Council they approve the required development agreement.
They also recommended to Council they have both a first and second reading of the development agreement at their October 1 City Council Meeting.
