There’s nothing like having a hearty and tasty meat loaf dinner to make you feel like you’re eating at home. Thanks to the “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” sponsor MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa and our hardworking Bread & Broth volunteer cooks, that is exactly what B&B’s dinner guests enjoyed at the December 28 Monday evening dinner. The meat loaf was a big hit and despite big “first servings” portions, when “second serving” was announced, many diners returned for a second helping.

Short and quiet New Year's Eve celebration at Stateline

The celebratory crowd at Stateline was once again a small crowd, estimated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to be between 5,000-10,000. The road through the casino corridor didn't have to close until 11:58 p.m.

Woman found on roof at Edgewood Tahoe

4:30 p.m. update 12/31/15:

The woman who was a focus of a search in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday was found by Douglas County Sheriff's Search and Rescue.

At 3:30 p.m., April Torres was located on the roof top of Edgewood Tahoe Golf Resort. She has been transported to Barton Hospital. Her medical condition is unknown.

MontBleu surveillance employees spent the day searching through their films and the last time she was seen on film was when she left the casino on foot and went to the corner of the Loop Road and Highway 50.

The investigation continues.

South Lake Tahoe community takes care of each other during holidays

The Christmas spirit has been evident all through the South Shore over the past few weeks as many people and non-profit agencies have been blessed with donations of money, food and gifts to help make the holidays a bit brighter.

New HR director at Hard Rock brings years of local experience

Jan Garcia has been hired as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe’s director of human resources.

Prior to joining the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, Garcia served as human resources manager for Edgewood Companies. She has fourteen years of experience in the gaming industry, having served as regional director of human resources for Herbst Gaming, Inc., and director of human resources for both Caesars Lake Tahoe and the Reno Hilton.

Lake Tahoe's Festival of the Trees begins Wednesday

$17M Indian tribe construction scheme involved condo in South Lake Tahoe

Darrell Hinz was the trusted construction manager hired by the United Auburn Indian Community to complete its Indian Hills Road office project.

Instead, Hinz became enmeshed in a fraud scheme that federal investigators determined would ultimately suck $17 million out of the project in fraudulently inflated invoices.

The money ended up paying for luxuries that included a $70,000 BMW, a condo in South Lake Tahoe and a new swimming pool.

Help shape the details of South Lake Tahoe Highway 50 project

The Loop Road project in South Lake Tahoe has undergone changes, from being a federally funded project to realign Highway 50 to evolving into a community development project that promises to beautify, provide new gateways and gathering places. Without this plan being a federal project allows local control and development.

The revamped US Highway 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project will be presented to the community during an open house on Tuesday, December 1 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Shannon McIsaac named Director of Sale at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe

Shannon McIsaac has been hired as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe’s director of sales.

The winners for the 8th annual Blue Ribbon Awards were announced Thursday night to a sold out dinner and ceremony at Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa. 300 community members attended to celebrate the winners of seven awards that honor exceptional South Shore businesses for their excellence in service, entrepreneurship, tourism and experience.

Local woman wins $20,000 in Hard Rock Lake Tahoe contest

South Lake Tahoe local Karen had a Halloween to remember after winning the "Jeepers Creepers" drawing and $20,000 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe.

Throughout the month of October, Backstage Pass members who earned 25 gaming points received one entry into the Jeepers Creepers drawing on October 31 for a chance to win a brand new Jeep Wrangler, courtesy of Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, or $20,000 in cash. Players also had the option of swiping their player card on Saturdays for a chance to win up to 1,000 bonus entries or $1,000 cash.

Hundreds evacuated from Montbleu due to fire Friday night

A fire in the air handling unit at Montbleu Resort in South Lake Tahoe forced the evacuation of all casino and convention center patrons on Friday evening.

According to Eric Guevin, Fire Marshal for the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, the motor of the air handling unit caught on fire, forcing smoke into the hallway between the convention center and the casino floor.

One ambulance and fire engine from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded along with four engines from Tahoe Douglas.

Management change at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe

After weeks of reported management problems at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in South Lake Tahoe, owners David and Jon Park have terminated their relationship with W-G Stateline and Warner Hospitality of Las Vegas. Instead, they will use on-site, local management.

Douglas County Commissioners propose two tax increases

Millions of dollars could be headed to the South Shore if the Douglas County Commissioners vote to increase gas tax by five cents and add an additional 0.25% infrastructure sales tax.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe employees recently donated 558 school supply items to Bijou Community School. The property-wide donation drive was coordinated by the property's H.R. Manager, Didi Aspero. They collected items such as notebooks, binders, and pencils. They also donated $500.

Cakes by the Lake will be creating delectable cupcakes in October to help Hard Rock Lake Tahoe raise money for Susan G. Komen Northern Nevada.

People can choose from pink lemonade cupcakes with pastel pink lemon cream cheese icing, pink colored vanilla cupcakes with pastel pink butter cream, orange cupcakes with pink orange zest cream cheese, almond cupcakes with pink amaretto whip topping and spice cupcakes with pink plain cream cheese, all topped with pink heart shaped or pink breast cancer ribbon sprinkles.

Vagabond Inn Reno under new ownership

The Vagabond Inn located at 3131 S Virginia Street in Reno, NV has changed ownership after being purchased by Michael Bathla. Identifying the hotel and city of Reno as a prime investment opportunity, his first course of action for the property is to complete an array of interior and exterior property improvements in excess of $200,000 before the upcoming holiday season.

1,800 cyclists to bike around the lake in Sunday's Tour de Tahoe

The 13th annual Tour de Tahoe bicycle ride around the lake is on Sunday, September 13. More than 1,800 riders are expected to take on the 4,000 feet of climbing involved in the ride which continues to gain in popularity. Besides recreational riders there will also be teams riding to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Caesars fined $9.5 million over lax money-laundering controls

U.S. and Nevada regulators have fined Caesars Entertainment Corp.’s bankrupt unit a total of $9.5 million for deficient anti-money-laundering controls at its Caesars Palace VIP rooms, which cater mainly to Chinese high-rollers.

South Lake Tahoe man jailed on sex abuse charges

A 64-year-old South Lake Tahoe man wanted on multiple sex abuse charges was arrested at a Carson City casino on Monday, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Samuel John Hernandez was arrested at 2:31 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Carson Street after a brief pursuit by deputies. He was considered a fugitive from justice in South Lake Tahoe on El Dorado County, Calif., warrant charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 and lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. Hernandez is being held on $500,000.

A twisted chunk of metal, a file of yellowing newspapers and a million memories from 35 years ago are constant reminders of the Harvey’s Casino Resort bombing for retired FBI agent Bill Jonkey.

Tahoe Transportation District appoints Russell Nygaard as Transportation Capital Program Manager

The Tahoe Transportation District recently appointed Russ Nygaard as transportation capital program manager to oversee the planning, design and execution of the agency's capital projects.

With 26 years engineering experience in transportation and bridge projects, Nygaard will perform project management duties and assist with funding procurement and budget maintenance while ensuring all federal requirements are met and executed on schedule.

How the selling of LTCC bonds show what the nation thinks of Lake Tahoe

After the passing of the $55 million Lake Tahoe Community College General Bond, known as Measure F in November, the next step was to sell the bonds.

On August 6, 2015, $19 million of Series A bonds were sold at a much better rate than anyone expected. When the market opened at 7 a.m. PST, investors were ready to jump on these bonds and it only took two hours to sell them, and waiting in the wings were another $54.4 million in orders.

The biggest single investor was State Farm Insurance who bought about 25% of the bonds or, $4.7 million.

After an extensive search and interview process, the participants for the next Leadership Lake Tahoe program have been announced. That’s just part of the story of the journey of Three Dog Night’s show last night at the Montbleau Casino in South Lake Tahoe.

Torch Bruce Jenner carried through South Lake Tahoe sells for $24,000

The 1984 Summer Olympic Torch that Bruce Jenner carried through the South Shore has sold for just under $24,000 at auction.

The torch is the first major piece of Jenner memorabilia to go to auction since the winner of the 1976 Olympic Decathlon Gold Medal became Caitlyn Jenner. It had been estimated to bring $20,000 or more.

The seller was Bob Lorsch, a Los Angeles philanthropist and entrepreneur who orchestrated the Tahoe leg of the torch relay and secured Jenner's participation.

Water leak at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe shuts down swimming pool

The swimming pool at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe has been shut down due to a water leak.

During a routine inspection by the Douglas County Environmental Health Department on Thursday, it was discovered that there was a possible leak at the outdoor pool according to Ray Gentry, head of security at the South Shore casino. He said they didn't know the nature, or the source, so they notified The Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP) on Thursday afternoon.

Pairings list released for Tuesday's Tahoe South Celebrity-Am

The American Century Golf Championship in South Lake Tahoe gets underway Tuesday with the Tahoe South Celebrity-Am tournament at 9 a.m. It will be a shotgun start with 18 celebrities paired up with amateur groups.

Private jets started to bring in the celebrities to the Tahoe Valley Airport with many more arrivals expected Tuesday. There will be practice rounds for celebrities held throughout the day.

Base Camp III moves to Hard Rock Lake Tahoe July 25

As part of the resort's BaseJam Summer 2015 Outdoor Concert Series these two bands join over 30 other artists in a day long festival on Saturday July 25. The day of entertainment gets underway at 11 a.m.

Odds makers pick Billy Joe Tolliver to win American Century Championship

Four-time American Century Golf champion Billy Joe Tolliver, former quarterback for five NFL teams, is now the top choice of Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book to win the 26th annual celebrity golf tournament this week in South Lake Tahoe.

He is listed at 7-2 to win the event over defending champion Mark Rypien and perennial contenders John Smoltz and John Elway.

Rypien, the original favorite, is 5-1 with Smoltz at 6-1 and eight-time champion Rick Rhoden at 7-1 for the 54-hole, modified-Stableford competition at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The 1984 Summer Olympic Torch that Bruce Jenner carried through Lake Tahoe, Nevada, is going on the auction block where it could fetch $20,000 or more.

It's the first major piece of Jenner memorabilia to go to auction since the winner of the 1976 Olympic Decathlon Gold Medal became Caitlyn Jenner.
