Reward offered for information on stolen car found on South Shore

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is looking for a couple of interest after a stolen car was recovered at MontBleu Casino Resort in Stateline, Nevada on February 20, 2018.

A male and female were seen near the vehicle and possibly drove the vehicle to the South Shore.

South Shore casinos show big gain in January; Carson Valley on plus side too

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of January showed a two percent gain over the same month in 2017. The had a "gaming win" of $1,015,027,320 according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

On the South Shore, the $19,641,340 in gaming revenue earned by the casinos was up 14.83 percent from January, 2017. The Carson City and Carson Valley had a "win" of $8,101,427, up 7.21 percent.

The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

The North Shore casino win was down 1.46 percent.

Rudolph M. Pakes Sr, 91, passed away peacefully and with grace in his home on February 14, 2018 his family by his side.

Rudy was born on June 4, 1926 in Belle Valley, Ohio. His parents Andrew Pakes and Susan Krempasky immigrated from what was then Czechoslovakia for the promise of the “American Dream.” They met and married in Belle Valley, where Andrew worked in the coalmines. Rudy had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. He had a wonderful childhood in Ohio, all of his siblings attended K-12 in a one-room schoolhouse.

Tahoe Arts Project holds 6th annual Dancing With the Tahoe Stars

Ten local members of the South Lake Tahoe community will be demonstrating their dancing skills on Saturday, March 3 at the 6th annual Tahoe Arts Project Dancing with the Tahoe Stars in the MontBleu Showroom starting at 6:30 p.m.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening will once again be Dreu Murin.

Ten locals have been paired with ten dancers to perform various styles of dance including Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa, Merengue, Swing, Disco, Fox Trot, Bachata, Hip Hop and Musical Theater.

Gaming revenue on the South Shore shows slight decline

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of December was less than one percent off of their totals for the same month in 2016. The $960,384,350 in net win by the state's casinos was just .44 percent over from last year according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

On the South Shore, the $18,489,949 in gaming revenue earned by the casinos was down 1.24 percent from 2016. The Carson City and Carson Valley had a "win" of $9,333,656, up 9.97 percent.

Edgewood promotes their hotel director to general manager

Edgewood Companies has announced that Corinna Osborne will be Edgewood Tahoe’s new general manager.

The Massachusetts native has more than 15 years of experience in the local hospitality industry. Prior to joining Edgewood Tahoe, Osborne has worked at MontBleu, served as general manager of Horizon Resort and was part of the rebranding and opening for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe where she was the director of non-gaming operations.

Letters: Ringing in the new year with an attitude of gratitude

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League has a lot to be grateful for this past year. For nearly four decades, the volunteers of this organization have driven patients from South Lake Tahoe to their medical treatment, at no charge to the patients or their families. The drivers take patients to Reno, Carson City, Minden, Truckee, and as far away as UC Davis. The Cancer League also gives limited monetary assistance in the form of small grants to the patients to help with their monthly expenses.

Deadly holiday in Las Vegas: Two casino security guards shot to death

The string of holiday season killings in the Las Vegas Valley continued Saturday morning when two security guards were gunned down inside a hotel room.

The killings at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur marked the fourth double homicide and the fifth multiple homicide investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department this month.

Since Dec. 22 alone, Metro has investigated 12 homicides, all but one resulting from gun violence. But over the same stretch, the valley has had 15 homicides, including the deaths of three people inside a North Las Vegas home Thursday.

South Lake Tahoe nonprofits benefit from STAR; $15,000 given away

The South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) donated $15,000 this holiday season to three community organizations, with Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Christmas Cheer, and Live Violence Free each receiving $5,000.

Longtime Tahoe Douglas Fire Battalion Chief retiring

For 37 years, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) Battalion Chief Rich Nalder has served the community, and now, he's retiring.

Nalder’s service to the Lake Tahoe community began in 1980 and he soon became instrumental in the design and implementation of TDFPD Special Service programs such as rope rescue, confined space and water rescue.

Bay area residents arrested in Stateline on burglary charges

8:00PM Update 12/18/17: After the trio's arrest, detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department served a search warrant on a motel room at Motel 6 on Highway 50, locating a significant amount of stolen property that had recently been reported stolen in Douglas County. They also located numerous items that may have been stolen, but were not previously reported. .

Bay Area toddler dies after being found in casino hot tub

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has announced that a four-year-old from Redwood City, California has died on the South Shore.

At 1:27 p.m. Sunday, December 17, emergency personnel were called to MontBleu Casino and Resort in Stateline, Nevada after the toddler was found in a hot tub. He was transported by the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department to Barton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The next of kin has been notified.

All of us would describe him as the best husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa we could ask for. Larry Ellison may back out of deal to buy Cal Neva

Tech billionaire and real estate fanatic Larry Ellison might back away from a deal to buy Frank Sinatra’s old Lake Tahoe casino.

Ellison’s $35.8 million purchase of the faded Cal Neva Resort & Casino has been tied up in court for more than a month, and the Oracle Corp. founder isn’t willing to wait much longer, federal bankruptcy officials warned in a court filing last week.

Magical display of themed Christmas trees at South Lake Tahoe holiday event

The grand hall at MontBleu Casino Resort has been turned into a holiday paradise, a winter wonderland with the main attraction being the specialty Christmas trees.

On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.

The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.

Small child found asleep in car with hypodermic needles and pill bottles

Four people were arrested by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) after a child was found asleep in a car full of hypodermic needles and pill bottles at the Red Hawk Casino in Shingle Springs, Calif.

Security officers from the casino noticed the car in their parking structure with the occupants asleep with a child asleep in the back seat. As they looked closer they could also see many hypodermic needles and pill bottles throughout the vehicle and called the deputies.

Person of interest in Hard Rock Hotel murder arrested by UNR police

The man identified as a person of interest in the October 3 murder of Kevin LeRoy Edwards at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Lake Tahoe was arrested in Sparks, Nevada on November 22, 2017.

Someone called in a suspicious person report to the University of Nevada (UNR) Police Department. They contacted Jose DeJesus Rodriguez-Quezada, 44, sleeping on the sidewalk near the UNR Agricultural Ranch area on East McCarran Boulevard.

Lake Tahoe Marathon events around the lake; Some road closures

The kickoff events are now in the record books, and racers are now preparing for the rest of Lake Tahoe Marathon week to get started. Please note, State Route 89 will be closed to vehicle traffic in each direction around Emerald Bay from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15 during the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Reward offered to find person of interest in South Shore murder

STATELINE, Nev. - A person of interest is being sought in the October 3, 2017 homicide at the Hard Rock Casino Hotel.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the person associated with a homicide that was reported on at 5:00 .a.m. that evening.

Kevin LeRoy Edwards of Dublin, Calif. and Reno, Nev. was 56-years-old at the time of his murder.

Incline Village resident dies in Reno crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is investigating a Reno crash that killed 76-year-old Karin Schulze Brown, a resident of Incline Village.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, NHP Troopers responded to a serious crash in front of the main entrance to Tamarak Junction on South Virginia Street in Reno.

The driver of a 2011 Jeep Liberty had pulled out of the casino to make a left turn onto South Virginia Street right into the path of Brown who was headed southbound in the left lane, driving her 2001 Mercedes Benz.

Man found dead at Hard Rock Hotel in Lake Tahoe

STATELINE - A man was found dead at a south shore Lake Tahoe casino hotel room Tuesday night with the suspect in the killing at large, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

The crime happened at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Lake Tahoe and the suspect is an adult female, according to the sheriff’s office.

DCSO deputies responded to the Hard Rock at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, for a death investigation of a male in one of their rooms.

Vegas shooting: Governor signs emergency declarations; blood donations soar statewide

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a Declaration of Emergency for Clark County and a Public Health and Medical Disaster declaration on Monday following the mass shooting incident in Las Vegas Sunday night that killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 500.

Through the order, Sandoval has directed all state agencies to supplement the local efforts to save lives and protect the health and safety the victims of Sunday night’s attack.

Suspects still sought in South Shore stabbing

Suspects are still being sought for the violent robbery, battery and stabbing of a man outside Harrah's Tahoe.

On August 13 at 3:10 a.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were called to the valet area of the Stateline casino where they found a man with a stab wound. The incident occurred on the sidewalk near valet.

Witnesses stated an altercation occurred between the victim and two males who fled the scene after the incident.

Longest running Lake Tahoe Halloween party, the Freakers Ball, returns

For almost four decades, Halloween in South Lake Tahoe has been a party like no other with the annual Freakers Ball bringing people in from all over to demonstrate their creative talents in costume creations.

Local Brian Williams started the tradition inside the Tahoe Palace, a Chinese restaurant which was located next to Raley's at Stateline at the time. He named the event after the 1972 Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show song, "Freaker's Ball." The location changed from there, to the old Super 8 (Knight's Inn), Edgewood Tahoe, the former nightclub Turtles, then to Caesars Tahoe.
