The South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association will host the 5th annual K9 Trials on Sept. 21-22 in South Lake Tahoe. It is anticipated that 50 K9 teams from police departments throughout California and Nevada will compete in the competition. The narcotics trials will be held on Friday, September 21 at the Royal Valhalla Motor lodge at 2pm. The patrol dog competition will be held at the Babe Ruth Little League Field on Saturday, September 22 beginning at 8am. South Tahoe High seniors Emily Barnett and Tyler Myers will travel to Russia to present their field research project, “The Effects of Fire and Forest Thinning on the Biodiversity of Understory Plants in the Lake Tahoe Basin,” at the 9th Annual International Junior Foresters’ Competition. Their project was selected by the U.S. Forest Service International Programs office in Washington DC to represent the U.S. in the upcoming competition.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and employees of the state's Department of Public Safety will be at Harveys Lake Tahoe inside the Hard Rock Cafe to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California Saturday on Sept. 15.
The troopers will serve as volunteer waiters for the event, which will run through the lunch and dinner hours.
