Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/30/2019 - 1:28pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A call into "SafeVoice" about 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night outlined a specific threat to faculty and students at Douglas High School in Minden involving the use of a firearm. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) quickly responded, leading to the arrest of one juvenile for allegedly making threats against the school.
The SafeVoice Coordinator from the Nevada Division of Investigations and the DCSO resource officers worked together to quickly identify the juvenile(s) involved.

Man charged with battery after allegedly hitting Douglas County deputy vehicle
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/27/2019 - 9:11pmMINDEN, Nev. - An alleged theft investigation at a WalMart in Douglas County led to the arrest of 23-year-old Gardnerville resident Steven Williams with the assistance of the South Lake Tahoe K-9 unit.
The incident started on Friday morning when deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the Walmart on Grant Avenue for an alleged theft investigation. They learned the suspect was driving a white sport utility vehicle.
Facebook video leads to arrest of two juveniles in Douglas County on battery charges

On September 3, 2019, at 3:15 p.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were dispatched to the area of Wagon Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos area of Douglas County for a fight in progress. Upon arrival, the deputies discovered one of the involved subjects had what they called "obvious injuries."

Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/18/2019 - 5:20pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were called out to Nevada Beach Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when a caller into dispatch said there was a man on the beach with an assault-style rifle.
The beach was immediately shut down and facilities were searched. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department was called out to assist at the beach.
Tahoe Douglas Fire asked people to stay out of the area in a Twitter post - "There is currently a situation at Nevada Beach. Please stay clear. Law enforcement on scene." One hour later they tweeted all was clear.
Pair wanted in Douglas County arrested on burglary and drug charges in Utah

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced the arrest of Jackie Coughran, of Medford, Oregon, and the passenger, Donell Jordon, of Salt Lake City on August 7 in Hurricane, Utah, which is just north of the Arizona border.

Douglas County man arrested after allegedly shooting at roommates

A man had allegedly shot a firearm at his roommates. No one was injured in the shooting and the roommates were able to get to safety.

Jeremy Stritenberger, 43, and Riki Scibelli Eltingham, 40, were arrested after a stolen Toyota Tacoma was found at the camping area on Washoe Road. The Toyota and a log splitter were reported stolen in Yuba City, Calif. Deputies located large amounts of property and personal effects inside the vehicle that they believe to be stolen in separate crimes.

"It is with great sadness we announce the death of Correctional Officer Andreiam Jeffrey “AJ” Arqueza. AJ passed yesterday afternoon in a drowning accident while enjoying days off with friends in the Lake Tahoe area," said the San Mateo County Code 30 Foundation on a Facebook post.

This latest scam is much like others in the past. Unidentified callers are telling the person answering the phone they have a warrant issued from the FBI. The scammer is seeking large sums of money, generally $2,000 to $,5000, be sent via the mail in the form of pre-paid gift cards.

No law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time. There are no outstanding suspects nor is there any threats to our community. This is still an open investigation, according to DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.

Man who led police on pursuit into Nevada now a suspect in three murders

Stefon Jefferson, a 43-year-old man from the San Francisco area, started Friday off by allegedly fatally shooting a man in Oakland at 10:14 a.m., another in San Francisco at 1:27 p.m. and a third in Berkeley at 2:40 p.m.
Double homicide suspect in custody after South Lake Tahoe to Douglas County pursuit
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/26/2019 - 9:46pmUPDATE 8:30AM 4/27/19: An observant officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was on patrol near the Heavenly Village at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night when he saw a car listed on a Bay Area police "Be On The Lookout" report go through an intersection. The report said the driver was a suspect in two homicides, one in each Oakland and San Francisco.
He followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over with the assistance of another officer, but the driver took off and a pursuit began.

At 6:43 a.m. on April 18, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were dispatched to a residence in Zephyr Cove after the Live Violence Free crisis hotline center received a concerning call. The unidentified caller said they were a pregnant 13-year-old who believed she was in labor and had previously been raped by her father.

Search ends for missing skier at Heavenly Mountain Resort
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/19/2019 - 9:32amUPDATE 12:30 p.m. - Heavenly Ski Patrol, with the assistance of a K9 search dog, have located the body of Brett Herrick in the Aries Woods, about 100 feet from the groomed trail. He was immersed in deep snow and found at about 10:00 a.m.
Initial investigation indicates Herrick crashed into very deep powder and could not self-rescue and likely suffocated or died from exposure. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The next of kin has been notified.

During the evening of January 9-10, 56-year-old Connie Koontz was murdered in her home on James Road and sometime in the overnight hours of January 12-13, 74-year-old Sophia Renken was also murdered in her home.
Second homicide in Douglas County possibly related to James Road murder

According to County officials, the DCSO initial investigation has resulted in this incident being classified as a homicide and belief this case is related to the murder a few days ago of a Gardnerville woman on nearby James Road.
Victims in Topaz Lake and ATV incidents identified

The recovery efforts resumed today on at 9:00 a.m. by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Marine 7 and search and rescue units, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Vehicle Unit (SUV) and their HASTY Dive Team, and Wardens from the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. Marine 7’s ROV located the body of Jesse Gregory, 50, at a depth of 22 feet.
The surviving fisherman, Scott Wise, has recovered and was released from the hospital.
Boat capsizes in Topaz Lake; One dead, one missing

One boater, Scott Wise, was able to get to shore while a search began for the other two occupants. Rescue teams located the body of Burt Pederson of Sparks, Nevada, a man in his 40s according to DCSO. Jesse Gregory, also of Sparks, is still missing and presumed to have drowned.
Wise was treated at the Carson Valley Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released.

Gardnerville woman found murdered in her Ranchos home
Submitted by admin on Fri, 01/11/2019 - 8:28pmGARDNERVILLE, Nev. - A 56-year-old Gardnerville resident was murdered in her home on James Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is asking all residents to use caution as the murderer remains a threat to the community.
During either the evening of January 9 or the early morning hours of January 10, an unknown suspect entered the home of Connie Koontz and killed her.
"The Sheriff’s Office is asking you to be vigilant in locking all of your doors and windows and report any suspicious activity immediately," said DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.

At approximately 9:42 a.m. an unidentified man entered the store at 3770 US Highway 395 and selected 23 items, then proceeded to the self-checkout lanes. He scanned ten of the cheapest items, paid for them with cash, then attempted to leave the store when he was stopped by security.
The man fled without his items and left in what looks like a white Acura. He drove off towards the highway.

DCSO looking for man involved in armed robbery and attempted child abduction

The vehicle involved in both crimes is similar to the one pictured in the photo above. It is a black older model Chevy Tahoe with scratches on the sides, dirty and dark windows.
One witness described the driver as a Hispanic or Native American male adult.
Body found in Gardnerville, Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigating

At approximately 7:00 a.m., deputies located a motor vehicle belonging to a man who was reported missing the night before. A search of the area located the man deceased in the field behind Carson Valley Middle School.
At this time there does not appear to be anything suspicious about the death. The family has been notified.
No name has been released.

Search called off for person reported missing in Lake Tahoe

On Monday, underwater drones and K9s were used in the water along with law enforcement boats to aid in the search.

Douglas County senior scammed out of $34,000 over 20-month period

In the program, a deputy and a volunteer visit seniors to obtain needed information such as consent, next of kin and medication information. The information is beneficial in case of a future emergency involving the senior citizen.

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was alerted about the 1997 Airstream motorhome speeding through South Lake Tahoe, running red lights and traveling without headlamps on. They saw it as it crossed into Nevada traveling 55 mph in a 35-mph zone when an enforcement stop was initiated.
