Douglas County Sheriff's Office Searching for Runaway 12 Year Old
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/25/2014 - 10:51pm6/26 8:45 am update: Cara was located this morning by the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 6 a.m. She has been detained and released into the custody of Douglas County Juvenile Probation.
Cara Breann Valerie, age 12, has been missing from her grandparent's home in Minden, Nevada since Saturday and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding her.
She is believed to have run away to the Reno area and may be in the company of Samson Martinez, age unknown.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue Looking for Missing 11-Year-Old Boy

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue are searching for 11 year old Romeo Obrien who was last seen at 2 p.m. in the Gardnerville Ranchos near Patricia Court.
Romeo is 5'3" tall, has brown hair and brown eyes with a scar under his left eye. He was last seen wearing a blue DARE shirt and blue shorts.
Romeo’s last known direction is unknown. Romeo has been entered into NCIC as a missing person.
Douglas County Sheriffs Arrest Reno Man Suspected in Theft of Solar Energy Panels and Supplies
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/21/2014 - 3:36pmDouglas County Sheriff's Investigators have spent the last several months investigating the thefts of solar energy equipment around the region. On Tuesday they arrested 40 year-old Geoffrey Earl Meudt of Reno (a former Douglas County resident) for possession of stolen property, which is a felony charge.
Between November of 2013 and April of 2014 there were five separate thefts of solar panels and associated solar system components in Douglas County.
The equipment was sold by Meudt to unsuspecting buyers who thought the items were the result of a solar energy upgrade project in Reno.
North Lake Tahoe Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Pursuit in Carson City
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/16/2014 - 10:18pmAn armed man walked into the Kings Beach branch of the Plumas Bank Friday morning, demanding money of two clerks. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect, identified as 55 year old Brent Muir of Carson City, was sighted near Sand Harbor by FBI agents responding to the robbery from South Lake Tahoe.

Sheriff's Office Asks For Public's Help in Finding Missing Lake Tahoe Man

Donald Morris, Jr. hasn't been seen since April 20 and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public’s help in locating the missing 55 year old man.
Morris, who lives in the Round Hill neighborhood on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe, was last seen by his landlord.
His vehicle is at the residence.
The 6'4" man weighs 225 pounds, has green eyes and brown hair. It is unknown what clothing he was wearing when last seen.
Reward Offered For Help Finding Game Stop Robbery Suspect

The charges included assault, affray, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, minor consuming alcohol and civil protective custody. During the downtown party last year there were 14 arrests.
Armed Man Sought in Gardnerville Liqour Store Robbery
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/27/2013 - 12:47pmThe Lucky Liquor Store on Highway 395 in Gardnerville was robbed on December 26 by a Hispanic man with a small semi-automatic weapon.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the suspect walked into the liquor store at 8:30 pm and demanded money from the store employee. The robber is described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35 years of age, 6’ tall, 250 pounds wearing a black jacket with a hood and black shorts. The lower part of his face was covered by a red bandana. He used a small semi-automatic silver and black pistol to commit the robbery.
South Lake Tahoe Residents Arrested in Douglas County Burglary

According to Sgt. Pat Brooks, at around 1 a.m. someone entered onto greens, fairways and tee boxes with a motor vehicle at the Glenbrook Golf Course. The driver of the vehicle raced around the course and caused substantial damage.
Rite of Passage escapee with a warrant turns himself into Douglas authorities

On Feb. 23, Geolyn Balleza ran away from her parent’s home in Minden. She is believed to have run away and is somewhere between Douglas County and the Reno/Sparks area, according to Douglas County authorities.

Kathy Arlana Hammond was reported as a missing person by a friend on Sunday, Feb. 17. Hammond was last seen at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15.
Hammond is reported to be mentally unstable, and has threatened suicide in the past. Hammond is reported to be driving a 4-door 1993 Subaru Legacy sedan, teal green in color, bearing California license plate 3CKF797.
FBI joins in search for missing Petaluma woman at South Shore Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 01/03/2013 - 9:26amUPDATE 2:40PM: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with several agencies including the FBI, are actively searching for 19-year-old Alyssa Byrne of Petaluma, Calif., who was at South Lake Tahoe attending a music festival and was last seen by friends on the gaming floor of the Horizon Casino in Stateline between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.
The sheriff’s office in conjunction with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, Eldorado County Sheriff’s Department, FBI, Douglas County Search and Rescue and air support from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are working to ascertain Alyssa’s whereabouts.
No leads have been generated to the circumstances of Alyssa’s disappearance.
Alyssa is 5 foot 3inches tall, 125 pounds with black hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black snow boots, and black yoga-type pants with her hair pulled back. She was last seen by friends on the gaming floor of the Horizon Casino on 01-01-13 at approximately 1230-100 am.

Douglas County authorities seek witness to Stateline assault
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 11/16/2012 - 9:51pmDouglas County authorities are asking the public for help in identifying two men responsible for beating and robbing an unarmed man outside a South Shore Lake Tahoe casino Nov. 10 at around 9:45 p.m.
The two suspects were seen on video surveillance assaulting and robbing the victim outside the casino. The men, described as caucasian or light-skinned Hispanics ages 18 to 25, jumped and battered the victim, punching and kicking him repeatedly after he fell to the ground.
Genoa Station Bar and Grill fire contained to kitchen and attic; S.R. 206 closed for two hours

Douglas County Dispatch received a 911 call of a structure fire at the Genoa Station Grill and Bar, which is a newer business adjacent to the Genoa Town Hall. East Fork Fire and Paramedic District along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the scene, said DCSO Sgt. Pat Brooks.
Authorities discover marijuana grow operation in Douglas County foothills near Jacks Valley

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is looking for three suspects associated with the grow and have warned that the men are hiding in the forest and may emerge at any number of locations in Douglas County, including Glenbrook on the Lake Tahoe side.

Man on parole turns himself in to Douglas County authorities
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 06/05/2012 - 6:43pmUPDATE: On Wednesday morning, at 6:45 am, parolee absconder Randy Nourse turned himself over to deputies at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Station. Nourse was previously reported as a fugitive from justice by the State of California, Department of Parole and Probation. Nourse was safely taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies without incident.
Nourse will remain in the Douglas County Jail pending his extradition back to California.
Remains found in Douglas County identified as missing Minnesota man
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 03/14/2012 - 10:01amSkeletal remains discovered in the northeast backcountry area of Douglas County on Feb. 22, 2012 have been identified as a 40-year-old Minnesota man, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Francisco Alejandro Lopez-Gonzalez was reported as a missing person out of Minnesota in June 2011. Gonzalez’ family has been notified of the discovery of his remains, said Sgt. Jim Halsey. The investigation is currently ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time, he said.
Douglas authorities look for suspects who tried to cash stolen check at bank

The primary suspect, an unidentified male adult, attempted to cash the stolen check at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday while using the drive-thru teller window, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey.

The armed robbery happened at about 8:45 p.m., with the suspect, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark mask and gloves, getting inside a gray four-door sedan with dark-tinted windows, possibly and Audi or a Volkswagon Jetta. It is believed a second person was in the vehicle and served as the driver, said Douglas County Sgt. Jim Halsey. The clerk was unhurt.
Reward offered after dog found dead, home burglarized

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office wants anyone who knows about the crime to report it. A reward of $250 is being offered for information.

Mora Jr. was captured by Douglas County Investigator Investigator Nadine Chrzanowski after receiving an anonymous tip regarding his whereabouts.
Mora Jr. is currently in custody at the DCSO Minden Jail, booked on an arrest warrant for lewdness with a minor.
Bail is set at $50,000.
Chrzanowski expresses her appreciation for assistance received from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office in assisting in the arrest.

Douglas authorities report 10 arrests in casino area
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 7:55amNew Year's Eve at Lake Tahoe went off without many problems, Douglas County authorities report, with crowds down to around 30,000 within the Stateline casino areas. There were 10 arrests during the celebration and a DUI arrest outside the casino area, said DCSO Sgt. Jim Halsey.
Among the charges were disorderly conduct, trespassing, minor consuming alcohol, battery, domestic battery, battery on a peace officer and civil protective custody.

Officer involved shooting in Gardnerville; deputy fatally shoots man

On Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 at approximately 2:10 pm, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to what was reported as a dead body lying outside of a white truck in the Gardnerville Cemetery.
A DCSO deputy arrived on-scene approximately six minutes later and found an adult male, later identified as 77 year-old David Pendleton, in the cemetery near the described truck. Pendleton was holding a shotgun in his hands.

Deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 21-year-old Jacob Wilcher on charges of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault. At approximately 11:40 am on Sunday, Douglas County deputies were dispatched to a call of an attempted child abduction at the Lifepoint Church, in Minden.
