A unique fundraiser in South Lake Tahoe will feature a showing of The Godfather Part II, which was partly filmed in Lake Tahoe, and an opportunity to talk to Meyer Lansky II. Lansky is the grandson of the man known as the "Mob's Accountant," a major organized crime figure who, along with his associate Charles "Lucky" Luciano, was instrumental in the development of the "National Crime Syndicate" who inspired the movie character Hyman Roth.

Four-legged friends will celebrated at the 7th annual Peaks and Paws Festival when it returns to Squaw Valley on Saturday, August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Village this special day set aside for pets and will be full of pet-friendly guided hikes up the mountain, specialty pet vendors, contests, flying dog show, music and more.

Ski Run Blvd and Pioneer Trail will be transformed into a large water party pn August 27 when a 1000-ft water slide lets participants slipe and slide their way down the streets in South Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professional group is bringing "Slide the City" to town not only as a fundraiser, but as a fun and local event that will also feature live music, vendors and food through three-city blocks. The eighth annual, “Chip in for Children Casino Night” on August 3 will benefit the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Renown Children’s Hospital. Renown Children’s Hospital is the only dedicated children’s hospital in northern Nevada and offers a variety of programs and services specially designed to care for our community’s children.

The Tahoe Derby Dames, an all-female amateur flat track roller derby league in South Lake Tahoe since 2008, are inviting the community to their fundraiser at Sno Frozen Yogurt on Friday, June 10 from noon to midnight.

The Dames will be at Sno to meet the public from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

For the whole day, when customers mention "Tahoe Derby Dames" at check out, 50 percent of all sales go to the club.

Cost for the frozen yogurt is $1 per ounce.

The UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe, local volunteers working on behalf of the University of California Cooperative Extension in Davis, will once again hold the June Day Jamboree and Plant Sale on Saturday, June 11th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Community College Demonstration Garden.

The Benko Art Gallery in South Lake Tahoe is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, May 7 for Grant and Cecelia Nobleman, the young couple who lost their home, animals and belongings in a fire on Aspen Avenue April 21. The benefit will be from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

There will be a $5 donation at the door, and a silent auction from various artists in the area who have donated art work. All proceeds will directly support the Nobleman’s loss. Live music and art auction too!

Join the Barton Foundation for the 22nd annual Tiki Tee Off Golf Tournament on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. The shot gun scramble starts at 8:00 a.m. and the day gets started with breakfast at 7:00 a.m.

All proceeds go to support the Community Health Endowment to benefit the health and wellbeing of South Shore residents.

The annual Spirit of Spring fundraising event at Edgewood Tahoe to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This event is co-sponsored by Southern Wine and Spirits and Edgewood Tahoe and always follows the beverage company's annual sales event at the South Shore golf course. The public will soon be able to tour the historic Nevada State Prison in Carson City. Opened in 1862, the prison opened on the site of the Warm Springs Hotel even before the territory became a state. The prison's quarry supplied the materials needed to build the State Capitol.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce 2016 Leadership Class will offer the prison tours as a fundraiser from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

With the legalization of gaming in Nevada, the prison allowed inmates to gamble in the Bull Pen, a casino that was set up in 1932 and closed in 1967.

The historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad (V & T) is the most famous of all American Short Line railroads and dubbed the "Queen of the Short Line." Students in Class 10 of the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy are shaving their heads to raise money to find cures for childhood cancers during the annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser on March 5 at Heavenly Mountain Resort, and they are seeking the community's support.

St. Baldrick's is a volunteer-powered charity that shows solidarity with young cancer patients through annual head-shaving events around the world that raise awareness and money for cancer research.
