This annual celebration included singing, refreshments and introduction of those six who now live at Skilled Nursing but served their country during the Vietnam War, Korea War and/or World War II.

Two dead after car collides with cement truck on SR-88
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/18/2017 - 8:55pmTwo people died Wednesday afternoon after a Suzuki SUV collided with a cement truck on State Route 88 at Centerville Lane in Minden according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).
One of the occupants of the SUV died at the scene and the other occupant was transported to Renown Medical Center via Care Flight with life-threatening injuries. They later died at the hospital according to NHP's Twitter page.
Both lanes of SR-88 were closed for awhile as emergency crews responded to the crash.
No names have been released.

Two transported to hospital after Cave Rock crash
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/10/2017 - 1:20pmThe westbound lanes of Highway 50 near Cave Rock were closed for awhile Tuesday morning after a two vehicle collision.
According to Dan Gordon of the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), a shuttle bus pulled out from Cave Rock Avenue into the path of a vehicle. Two people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Gordon said.
As emergency personnel tended to the victims and cleaned up the scene, both lanes of traffic were diverted to the eastbound lanes. All lanes were reopened by around 11:00 a.m.
Incline Village resident dies in Reno crash

At approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, NHP Troopers responded to a serious crash in front of the main entrance to Tamarak Junction on South Virginia Street in Reno.
The driver of a 2011 Jeep Liberty had pulled out of the casino to make a left turn onto South Virginia Street right into the path of Brown who was headed southbound in the left lane, driving her 2001 Mercedes Benz.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/05/2017 - 10:26pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work crews have been busy at the historic Pioneer Center on Harrison Avenue where a roof collapsed on January 23, flooding out the liquor store and thrift shop beneath it.
Hoyt Holmes of H.W. Holmes Incorporated has been hired to rebuild the structure which will have a smaller version of the liquor store and a new retail/coffee shop space as well as the existing Port-of-Subs, Sierra Veterinary Hospital, Rojo's and Jalisco's.
Holmes said the new roof will be up by October 31 and construction should be complete around the beginning of 2018.
Woman dies in El Dorado County shooting; apparent murder-suicide attempt
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/05/2017 - 5:24pmA 28-year-old woman is dead and her fiance has been hospitalized after a shooting in Shingle Springs Wednesday evening.
On October 4, 2017 at approximately 5:47 p.m., deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) responded to multiple reports of a shooting near the intersection of Mother Lode Drive and Sunset Lane.
They discovered two people shot at the scene. One of them, Bay Area resident Jessica Lyn Ball, was pronounced dead at the scene. A male, who was later determined to be her fiance, suffered a single gunshot would and was transported to a local hospital.

She loved the mountains and enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, water sports, and hiking. Growing up, she was involved in most sports, but loved gymnastics and dance. Her smile and infectious laugh could light up an entire room and she left a memorable impression on everyone she met.
Vegas shooting: Governor signs emergency declarations; blood donations soar statewide

Brian Sandoval signed a Declaration of Emergency for Clark County and a Public Health and Medical Disaster declaration on Monday following the mass shooting incident in Las Vegas Sunday night that killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 500.
Through the order, Sandoval has directed all state agencies to supplement the local efforts to save lives and protect the health and safety the victims of Sunday night’s attack.

No injuries in two car collision in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/01/2017 - 2:11pmA two-car collision on Highway 50 just before noon Sunday created a traffic jam, but there were no injuries.
At 11:48 a.m. October 1, emergency personnel from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Police Department and JPA ambulance responded to the area in between Motel 6 and Grocery Outlet.
The driver of a white Toyota Camry pulled out of Motel 6 into the path of a woman driving westbound in a tan Toytoa Avalon. The Camry driver was attempting to cross all westbound lanes to head east and did not see the Avalon.
One dead, others injured in motorcycle crashes on area highways
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/30/2017 - 6:18pmThere was a fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. 50 about a mile east of Spooner Summit just before noon Saturday, September 30.
The east bound lane was closed for about three hours as emergency personnel responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Their cars surrounded the victim, keeping passerby from seeing the scene.
The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) said it was a single vehicle crash and speed is believed to be a factor.
The accident happened about 11:54 a.m. No other details were available.
Single vehicle rollover in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/29/2017 - 5:20pm10:00 p.m. update: One man is behind bars on suspicion of driving drunk and causing bodily injury, a felony charge.
South Lake Tahoe resident Luis Lopez-Mora, 23, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after he was released from Barton Hospital Friday evening.
As reported earlier, a call went into law enforcement about a person driving erratically on Pioneer Trail. Shortly after that call, the truck Lopez-Mora was driving failed to safely navigate a curve and his truck left the pavement and rolled down an embankment, landing on its wheels.

Both occupants were transported to Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe with non-life threatening injuries.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/18/2017 - 8:06pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 21-year-old California woman is facing charges after the car she was driving crashed into a tree in South Lake Tahoe early Sunday morning.
The suspect told officers she was driving her 2003 Mercedes on Pioneer Trail just before 1:30 a.m., east of Highway 50, when she veered to avoid an animal she said was in the roadway. She successfully avoided the undetermined animal but instead drove her car into a tree on the south side of the roadway.
Investigation into Lake Valley Fire Captain injury completed
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/14/2017 - 12:56pmA Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) Captain who was injured when he fell off a fire truck is home recovering and the investigation into his accident has concluded.
On August 27, 2017 at approximately 3:11 p.m., Lake Valley Fire Engine 7 was returning to the South Shore after responding to a traffic collision near Strawberry. As the truck with its occupants began an incline on Highway 50 around a curve between Twin Bridges and Camp Sacramento, the captain began to remove his turncoat. In order to fully remove it, he disconnected his seat belt and headset.

El Dorado County man indicted for distributing drug that killed minor
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/07/2017 - 9:57pmAlmost five years after a 15-year-old El Dorado High School student died after ingesting a designer drug, a Camino man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his death.
Elijah Lee Richter, 26, is charged with knowingly and intentionally distributing 25i-nBOME, the drug that killed Alejandro Nunez Avila in a Pollock Pines home on on September 8, 2012.
Richter had been arrested at the time with Jesse Howard Roberts, then 21. Roberts has already convicted in the case and sentenced to six years. He currently is listed as being an inmate at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, Calif.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/02/2017 - 5:59pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE - A local woman was injured Saturday afternoon and she crashed her van into the light signal at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Takela Drive.
The unidentified woman was transported to Barton Hospital with serious injuries.
A traffic signal was knocked off the pole, leaving it dangling over Lake Tahoe Blvd. Caltrans is on their way to South Lake Tahoe from Sacramento to fix the light.

SR28 reopened after boulder on roadway causes injury accident
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/29/2017 - 8:43amState Route 28 has reopened this morning after an early morning accident involving a four-foot boulder.
One person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries after their car was found on its side with the boulder near by. It is unclear at this time if the boulder hit the car as it rolled down or if it was already on the roadway.
The 5:53 a.m. accident took place three miles north of U.S. 50 on August 29.
A downed tree was also found next to the tree and boulder.
Both lanes on State Route 28 were closed for two hours after the crash but have since reopened.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/27/2017 - 4:14pm9:30 p.m. update: According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the RV had mechanical failure, its brakes failed on the downhill lake side of Kingsbury Grade. The vehicle then crashed and caught fire. Both the driver and passenger were taken to Barton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

8:00 p.m. update: Kingsbury Grade is open. There are no other details available at this time other than the motorhome is a total loss after fire consumed it. Flames moved into nearby grass but was quickly extinguished.
Condition of the driver and their passenger is unknown at this time.
Fallen Leaf Lake Fire added to CalTahoe JPA
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/21/2017 - 8:17pmFor years the Fallen Leaf Lake Fire Department (FLLF) has wanted to join the South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley fire departments and be part of the California Tahoe Emergency Services Operations Authority (CTESOA), and today they finally got their wish.
During Monday's meeting of CTESOA, also known as the CalTahoe JPA, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to add FLFF, giving them an ALS to be stationed at Fallen Leaf Lake as well as a possible voting spot on the board. (ALS-Advanced Life Support)

Two new cubs for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/19/2017 - 1:29amTwo new first-year cubs have arrived at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) during the past eight days, bringing the total now being housed in the South Shore non-profit to six.
As is tradition, LTWC names newly arrived cubs after the area they were found.
"Sky" was found on Skyline Avenue in South Lake Tahoe after being seen for more than two weeks around Elks Club Drive. He even stopped by the agency's compound for a look before moving in. Sky weighed in at 36.1 pounds.

00:50 - 800 block of Tallac Ave - EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury
02:50 - Barton Hospital - EMS call, Interfacility Transfer
03:37 - 1000 block of Johnson Blvd - EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury
07:58 - Barton Hospital - EMS call, Interfacility Psych Transfer
09:25 - College Dr - Alarm system sounded, no fire unintentional
Crash at Tahoe Keys Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe causing traffic jam
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/11/2017 - 12:06pmA two-car accident at Tahoe Keys BLvd. and Highway 50 has traffic jammed up through South Lake Tahoe and send two people to the hospital Friday.
One car was T-boned, their airbag was deployed and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue had to extricate the driver.
Two people were transported to Barton Hospital with mild to moderate injuries.
Both cars were being hooked up to tow trucks at 12:00 p.m. and traffic should start flowing soon.
The cause is unknown at this time and this is a developing story. More details will be released shortly.
South Tahoe High grad returns as Barton's new spine specialist

Zachary Child, MD, a 1991 graduate of STHS, is a board certified orthopedic spine surgeon and musculoskeletal oncologist. He is skilled in addressing back pain and finding surgical and non-surgical options that help patients reach optimal spine health.
Three-car crash near Sierra sends two to hospital
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/07/2017 - 8:37pmThe California Highway Patrol released their report today of the July 29 three-car collision on US50 east of Sierra at Tahoe Road that sent one to Renown on Care Flight and another to Barton, both with multiple injuries.
