Open House at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

Once a year the public has the opportunity to explore the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care facility. On Sunday, July 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., they will open their doors to where the wild birds and animals are rehabilitated.

For 40 years the non-profit has been serving wildlife in the Sierra and normally the only people allowed past the front door are the volunteers.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care membership drive and open house

It isn't cheap to care for hundreds of wild birds and animals each year so Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care is holding their annual membership drive. Funds raised go to medicine, housing, equipment and food for the injured and orphaned wildlife.

Memberships start at $35 and go up to $10,000, or more. Memberships account for 20 percent of the agency's budget. Click here for membership information.

Open House for those interested in earning four-year degrees at LTCC

The Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) and Sierra Nevada College (SNC) partnership now offers bachelor's degrees in Global Business Management, Ski Business Resort Management, Psychology, and Elementary Education. All classes are taught on the the LTCC campus in South Lake Tahoe.

Courses are offered at the discounted tuition rate of $382 per credit. Already and student and want to transfer? Transfer your credits and pay only for the courses you need to graduate. Total upper-level tuition as low as $17,190 and Federal Student Aid is available to eligible applicants.

New details about US 50 Revitalization Project to be unveiled Monday

Several hundred new affordable housing options will be created if the US 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project goes in at South Lake Tahoe. Where they may be, and the release of environmental analysis documents will be announced during the next Tahoe Transportation District's (TTD) meeting on the plan Monday, April 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.

Kudos: Warm Room open house a success

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. – Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless hosted over 100 people at the second South Lake Tahoe Warm Room Open House event on February 22, 2017. We were proud to honor City Councilwoman Wendy David for her participation in the establishment of the Warm Room. David was facilitator of the Lake Tahoe Collaborative when a committee was established to create a vision and a plan for the Warm Room. Her support through nonprofit collaboration and in her role at the City of South Lake Tahoe has been greatly appreciated by all at TCH who have had the honor to work with her.

New South Lake Tahoe daycare center opens up for infants to age 13

Pequeños Rascals Daycare has moved into a new center in South Lake Tahoe after operating at a local home for 15 years. Filling a big need on the South Shore, the owners are offering quality care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children up to age 13.

It's not just babysitting either. It's care with a heavy emphasis on education, music, art, physical activity and family.

The public is invited to see for themselves when Pequeños holds an open house on Saturday, March 18 from noon to 5:00 p.m. They are located at 3336 Sandy Way in South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Warm Room celebrates community, success and Wendy David

The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless held an open house Wednesday, February 22 to show the community their new winter home, introduce volunteers and board members, answer questions and honor South Lake Tahoe Councilmember, and Mayor Pro Tem, Wendy David.

David has been a driving force in the community to provide the basic, necessary temporary shelter to those in housing insecurity during the dangerously cold season.

The Warm Room provides overnight refuge from the elements in a safe and warm environment for adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness.

The Open House offers visitors a chance to tour the 2016-2017 space of operation, to meet volunteers and Board members, and to ask questions about the program and homelessness in our community.

Public invited to Open House at South Tahoe High for new teen resource room

The community is invited to an Open House at the new Teen Resource Room at South Tahoe High on Wednesday, November 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in room C-1 at the school which is located at 1735 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

Students use the room to get needed clothing including hats and coats, school supplies and food, as well as bicycles. Counseling services are also offered in the room.

Tahoe Wedding Flea Market and Open House

The Lake Tahoe Golf Course will be hosting their annual Wedding Open House on Sunday, October 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Besides local wedding vendors being on hand to share information about their services, there will be a Tahoe Wedding Flea Market.

Future brides and grooms can shop for wedding items that will be available at great prices.

Organizers are renting flea market tables for just $10. People are invited to bring wedding items to sell to the brides, grooms, bridesmaids, and moms who will be attending.

Open House at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

LTCC to host open house about 4-year degree program

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) and Sierra Nevada College (SNC Tahoe) are co-hosting an Open House on Thursday, June 16 at 5:00 p.m. in LTCC’s Board/Aspen Room to explore offering an undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Global Business Management from LTCC’s South Lake Tahoe campus. The two colleges are seeking community and student input to gauge the level of interest in the program. As the partnership between LTCC and SNC moves forward, it will bring an accredited four-year bachelor’s degree option to LTCC’s South Shore campus for the first time.

Letter: Caltrans proposes roundabout at 50/89 intersection in Meyers

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 3 is developing a safety project that proposes to construct a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and State Highway 89 in Meyers beginning in 2018. The department has looked at several options at this location and has identified a roundabout as the preferred alternative to address safety concerns and improve traffic flow.

Community weighs in on Lake Tahoe transportation issues

There is a balancing act needed to provide quality transportation, protect Lake Tahoe, keep clean air and meet the needs of the communities around the lake, but that is what Tahoe Transportation District is trying to accomplish with a series of pubic outreach efforts.

On Tuesday night in South Lake Tahoe, staff from the TTD, Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization (TMPO) and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) held an open house at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel to get a pulse on the feelings of the public about transportation.

Tahoe Warm Room celebrates two months since doors opened

It started with a spark of energy provided by Diana Hankins in December of 2013, and Thursday night two years of constant work and determination were celebrated at the Tahoe Warm Room during an Open House.

The Tahoe Warm Room opened their doors on December 18, 2015, and since then they have served 74 different people who have come in from the cold to keep warm, get clothing and blankets, a hot cup of coffee and meet with a social worker, if desired.

Tahoe Warm Room holding Open House

In their first six weeks of operation, the Tahoe Warm Room had over 60 different people usig their overnight facilities to stay out of the cold weather. Two families also stopped by to get a one-time voucher for a motel room. Over 100 volunteers have already been trained to work at the warm room.

The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless opened the doors of the Warm Room on Friday, December 18, 2015. They have 20 cots with blankets, hot drinks and clothing for their guests.

Land swap to make way for new South Lake Tahoe trail

Help shape the details of South Lake Tahoe Highway 50 project

Successful Open House at South Lake Tahoe's three fire stations

In honor of National Fire Week October 4-10, the City of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Department held an open house at all three of their fire stations on Saturday. The public was invited to get information, learn about fire safety, get free swag and win raffle prizes.

STAT members were on hand at all three locations as well. STAT, which stands for South Tahoe Action Teams, is a program is designed to incorporate trained citizens in the field with the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and other first responders during times of crisis.

Community greets students at Mt. Tallac High School

"This makes us feel really good," said Mt. Tallac High School teacher Mr. Romer. He was talking about the community members who attended the school's Open House on Monday, the first day of classes for the 75 students who attend Mt. Tallac.

Land swap proposed between Forest Service and Conservancy

The United States Forest Service (USFS) and California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) will be trading 1,961 acres under a proposed land swap on the north, south and west shores of Lake Tahoe. Urban lots would go to CTC and the larger parcels would go to the USFS.

The agencies will hold two meetings where the public will have the opportunity to review the plan and offer feedback.

Police Chief Brian Uhler: Monthly report to the community

Community Outreach: The “Meet the Police” outreach campaign is going well. As a reminder, Coffee with a Cop happens on Thursdays and ends on August 27th. The Police Open House was well attended and we look forward to doing it again next year.

Zephyr Fire Crew gets a permanent home

The Zephyr Fire Crew no longer has to call the old landfill on Upper Kingsbury Grade's Logging Road Lane as their home. The Tahoe Douglas Fire Department's wildland fire/fuels reduction team was officially welcomed into new digs with an open house this week. The Tahoe Chamber was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony, but it wasn't any normal ribbon. Zephyr Fire crew members cut through a wooden ribbon with a chainsaw.

Annual Open House at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

South Lake Tahoe's only wildlife rescue and rehab center, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, opens their doors to the public just once a year, and Sunday, August 2 is that day.

Visit their facility and see the wildlife currently under their care through closed circuit monitors. LTWC volunteers will be on hand to guide visitors through the wildlife rehab center, explaining what is in each cage and the story behind each animal. The open house will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LTWC brand clothing will be on sale, as well as renderings of the new facility which will open in the Spring of 2017.

Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Fire Crew celebrates new home with Open House

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District recently purchased new crew facility Station #22, which will act as quarters for the Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Crew. The public is invited to tour the new facility and celebrate the Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Crew on Tuesday, July 28 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tahoe Chamber will officiate a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
