You can't miss them. A person buzzing down the road or bike path on a lime green electric scooter, courtesy of the newest and hottest trend, scooter sharing. In South Lake Tahoe, Lime Bike introduced the scooters a few weeks ago, and since then the popularity has increased daily.

One thing every user has is a huge smile on their face. One thing most riders don't have is a helmet and knowledge of electric scooter laws.

The Animal Coalition of Tahoe (ACT) is holding their fundraiser, Beer, Bingo, and Burritos with your Best Friend on Tuesday, June 19 from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at South Lake Brewing Company, 1920 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe.

Play bingo, drink beer, and purchase food from Verde Mexican Rotisserie, enjoy a fun raffle, all with your friendly and leashed dog.

Bingo cards are good all evening will be available for $10 each, 3 cards for $15 or 5 cards for $20. All proceeds benefit ACT’s spay/neuter program.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless has announced they are hosting the Tahoe Beach Bash, featuring the 4th annual Homebrew for the Homeless on Saturday, July 28 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Tahoe Beach Retreat and Lodge in South Lake Tahoe.

This family-friendly event, presented by Tahoe Beach Retreat, features live music, homebrew beer competition, lakeside BBQ, bounce house, local vendors, child-friendly obstacle course, and other entertaining activities for people of all ages.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - At their May 1 meeting, the South Lake Tahoe City Council gave direction to the City Attorney's office to draft ordinances to regulate sales, cultivation and distribution of medical and adult-use cannabis.

Consensus at that meeting was to allow for two micro-businesses, two retail businesses, two cultivation businesses up to 5,000 square feet and unlimited testing labs.

At that same meeting, the Council assigned councilmembers Austin Sass and Brooke Laine to an ordinance sub-comittee and they have worked on the ordinance will be voted on Tuesday.

Bread & Broth was very excited to have members of Barton Hospital’s Dietitian Department sponsor the Monday Meal on May 14th. So many departments from Barton Hospital host ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishments’ and they always send wonderful sponsor crew members to help at their sponsorship dinners. The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of personal use fuelwood permits at the Forest Supervisor’s Office in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, June 4, 2018, and at the Incline Village Forest Service office on Wednesday, June 6. Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household.

Permits have specific conditions and complete information is provided when the permit is issued. Maps to designated cutting areas are provided and must be in the permit holder’s possession along with the valid permit when cutting.

There are four people running for El Dorado County Supervisor for the 5th District on June 5: Incumbent Sue Novasel and challengers Kenny Curtzwiler, Norma Santiago and Jeffrey Spencer. The 5th District covers Pollock Pines to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoma.

It's time again for the Amgen Tour of California, and the South Lake Tahoe area once again is host to both the men's and the women's portions of the race.

On Friday, May 18, the town will be the scene for the men's Stage 6 and the women's Stage 2, but with the rolling road closures and number of people in town for the day will take some planning to watch the excitement.

Two more properties in the Bijou Park Creek flood zone will be acquired by the City of South Lake Tahoe thanks to a $793,991 grant awarded by the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) this week.

This makes three properties that the City will purchase from willing property owners with grant funds provided through Proposition 1 and Proposition 50 funds authorized by the CTC. The two this week, oft-flooded and located at 3593 Shirley Avenue and 3590 Bill Avenue in South Lake Tahoe will join the parcel at 3747 Woodbine Road which was authorized to be purchased in September 2017.

Many people donate both money and auction items to the Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra club for their annual Elegant Evening which occurs on Saturday, April 21. What many don't know is where those donations go. There was question recently in the community about donations, so the club wanted to clear up any misunderstandings.

The club recently created a diagram to better explain where each penny goes as they don't have must left over funds after they issue scholarships, grants and other forms of financial support.

Lisa Maloff, whose name is synonymous with gracious donations to the South Lake Tahoe community, has once again thrown her financial support behind a local need.

Maloff has given the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $500,000 to get started on a new building, but she won't be stopping there.

The South Lake Tahoe Earth Day celebration will be on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bijou Community Park. The special day recognizes, celebrates, and promotes our region’s unique beauty while educating the public about local environmental issues.

Mark your calendar for a night of fun on Thursday, April 26 as the Connect for Kids Charity Mixer helps our community's youth through a silent auction, raffle and a Donate & Decorate" bike contest at South Lake Brewing Company from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The mixer will include delicious lite bites by Verde Mexican Rotisserie. Several local non-profits who serve South Shore youth will be in attendance to highlight their organizations. All raffle, silent auction proceeds, and donated bikes will benefit participating non-profits.

In South Lake Tahoe, the name Lisa Maloff is synonymous with philanthropy. She has earned the name "Angel of Tahoe" through her large donations, including $10 million to Barton Memorial Hospital for their new Robert Maloff Center of Excellence (Wellness and Sports Performance Center) and $5.8 million to Lake Tahoe Community College for the Lisa Maloff University Center. To date, Mrs. Maloff has donated $35 million in the past four years.

Tahoe Wellness Cooperative (TWC), the only medicinal marijuana collective in South Lake Tahoe, was given the boost they needed Tuesday during a special SLT City Council meeting.

Cody Bass, the nonprofit's executive director, has been unable to purchase many products for this business since retail sales of marijuana have been allowed in the state of California. Those businesses are now only allowed to sell to others with a license.

A wide variety of local businesses will fill Harveys Tahoe on Friday, March 30 for the 2018 GO Local: Business EXPO from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This annual event is a community favorite that aims to showcase the most cutting-edge businesses on the South Shore. This year 85 exhibitors will feature their latest and greatest products, services and promotions. All members of the community are encouraged to attend and can expect a fun night of food tasting, beer and wine sampling, live music and vendor giveaways.

Medicare helps to pay for a wide variety of health services, from flu shots to hospital stays, and from preventive health screenings to hospice care.

But it doesn’t cover everything. And it doesn’t cover all your out-of-pocket costs.

Many services covered by Medicare require co-payments, coinsurance, and deductibles. You can purchase supplemental insurance to cover these “gaps” in Medicare.

The Tahoe Fund and the Tahoe Water Suppliers Association (TWSA) are pleased to announce the successful completion of fundraising efforts to purchase 150+ bottom barriers, and other necessary supplies, for the control of aquatic invasive species at Lake Tahoe.

After the success of last year's Dinner Theater, Lake Tahoe Golf Course has partnered with the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe to bring another adult farce to the community, Divorce Southern Style by Jennifer Jarrett.
