Returning for his second Adopt a Day of Nourishment sponsorship of the year, Jeremy Woodford hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on January 15th. Jeremy returned with Barbara and Craig Brittain who also volunteered at Jeremy’s January 1st sponsorship. This trio of helpers assisted the B&B volunteers in serving the 76 dinner guests who came to St. Theresa Grace Hall for a hot, nutritious meal. At the Mexican themed dinner, the diners had a choice of beef enchiladas, pork enchiladas, refried beans, festive veggies, green salad, fruit salad and a varies of pies, cookies and cakes for dessert.

There will be three viewing parties in South Lake Tahoe for The Bachelor on Monday, January 22. Scenes of the show were shot at several Lake Tahoe locations, including Valhalla Tahoe, Hard Rock Hotel Tahoe and Edgewood Tahoe, and they'll all be hosting parties for the show! Valhalla's party will be at Sidelines Sports Pub at the Beach Retreat and Lodge, the Edgewood Party will be at their Brooks' Bar & Grill and the Hard Rock Party is in Vinyl.

Kingsbury Middle School has a buyer, again. An offer of full asking price, $3.75 million, was made on the school during Tuesday's Douglas County School District board meeting and approved by the trustees.

Hard Rock Lake Tahoe has two ways to enjoy the evening:

Christmas is a little brighter this Christmas for ten South Lake Tahoe area families who received a box full of food from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) and Blue Shield of California.

The El Dorado Hills based insurance company paid for the food for families throughout the county, and the deputies delivered them.

"It felt really good. I was glad we could do something like this, especially this time of year," said Deputy Vince DeLeon who has been with the Sheriff's Office for 17 years and helped do the deliveries.

Douglas County residents continue to receive scam phone calls about missed court dates and jury duties, resulting in two residents being scammed out of over $5,,000 each, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

Ellison’s $35.8 million purchase of the faded Cal Neva Resort & Casino has been tied up in court for more than a month, and the Oracle Corp. founder isn’t willing to wait much longer, federal bankruptcy officials warned in a court filing last week.

Approximately 36,854 pounds of chicken and turkey salad products sold at Trader Joe's have been recalled because the may be contaminated with glass fragments and hard silica. Green Cuisine, a San Fernando, California company, has issued the recall on products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The ready-to-eat chicken and turkey salads were produced from Nov. 4 - 15, 2017.

To volunteer to help others is a selfless act that is both humbling and uplifting. Thanks to Vail’s generous EpicPromise grant, Kirkwood Mountain Resort employees had the opportunity to volunteer at Bread & Broth’s November 6 Monday Meal through B&B’s ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment' program. Kirkwood Security Officers Mark DeSacia, Rick Hofheins and Charlie Noury and David McCullers, Security Manager, all volunteered their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of those attending the meal served at Grace Hall.

A $5,000 matching gift by Tahoe Blue Vodka has led to over $10,000 raised to support the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s beach and community cleanups.

“We can’t thank Matt Levitt and Tahoe Blue Vodka enough for their continued support for our efforts to protect Lake Tahoe’s shoreline,” said Darcie Goodman Collins, PhD, the League’s executive director. “Our beach cleanups are a central part of our efforts to engage Tahoe’s community, and this gift brought the community together to help provide the funds we need.”

California's legal marijuana marketplace is coming with a kaleidoscope of new taxes and fees that could influence where it's grown, how pot cookies and other munchies are produced and the price tag on just about everything.

Be ready for sticker shock.

On a retail level, it costs about $35 to buy a small bag of good quality medical marijuana in Los Angeles, enough to roll five or six joints.

But in 2018, when legal sales take hold and additional taxes kick in, the cost of that same purchase in the new recreational market is expected to increase at the retail counter to $50 or $60.

This event is free to the public and not only are little goblins but so are furry ones since they are pet-friendly.

Even though there has been no illnesses reported with their products, Mann Packing of Salinas, California is being cautious and voluntarily recalling minimally processed vegetable products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Mann Packing is issuing this recall in response to a single positive result found on one of their products during random sampling by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Over 20 brands of vegetable items from Walmart, Safeway/Albertson's and Trader Joe's have been pulled from shelves are part of the recall notice.

The City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Arts Alliance are partnering for the second art gallery reception on Monday, October 23 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at City Hall located at 1901 Airport Road.

The Tahoe Arts Alliance connects artists, businesses and organizations on the South Shore, and the City’s lobby serves as a blank canvas to display local artists. The art will be rotated throughout the year and all art will be available for purchase.

The City Art Gallery reception will include a meet and greet with displaying artists and city officials. All are welcome to attend.

The Tahoe Youth and Family Service's 2nd annual Night of Magic will be held at The Loft in the Heavenly Village on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Enjoy appetizers before watching the talented magician Robert Hall at the Tahoe Youth and Family Services (TYFS) special show. There will also be a cash bar. Enjoy all for just $55. All proceeds go to help fund all of the programs TYFS provides to the community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Eight hours, and testimony from 29 people later, the City Council has crafted a new ordinance that attempts to strike a balance between locals and vacation home rentals (VHRs).

"While tourism is the lifeblood in our town, the residents are the heart and soul," said SLT City Councilman Jason Collin.

Passionate testimony from all sides was presented at Tuesday's meeting as has been the case for the 20+ meetings on the subject of VHRs.

The direction from the City Council to staff is to create an ordinance that will contain the following:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you've ever been inside Brother's Bar & Grill at the "Y" you most likely noticed all of the money taped to the walls and ceiling, anything with an open space had cash on it.

One day, local business owner was at Brother's having breakfast when he noticed all of the money was gone. He found out from owner Spencer Weiss that he had taken it all down and was now inside threes large garbage bag.

"It consumed the whole place," Weiss said of the cash over every inch of space. "It diminished the feel."

What does one do with bags full of cash?

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you waited to the last minute to purchase tickets for the 8th annual Sample the Sierra you were out of luck on Saturday at Bijou Community Park. The popular festival of food, wine and beer sold out all pre-sale tickets prior to the event, and sold out of tickets at the gate just after opening, much to the disappointment of many.

1,500 full tasting tickets and 50 children tickets were sold. Those lucky enough to get in moved from booth to booth, each with either a wine, beer or alcohol paired with food, or a local artisan and their wares.

The South Lake Tahoe Library just wrapped up our Summer Reading Challenge, which encouraged children, teens, and adults to read all summer long. Over 300 patrons registered, logging a total of 3,990 books, and earning a total of 1,055 prizes! We would like to thank the many businesses and organizations that donated prizes and funds.

This past week is one for the record books in South Lake Tahoe. I know, you’re thinking record temperatures, attendance at one of our special events or our filled-to-capacity lake. All wrong -- I’m referring to ABC’s Emmy Award-winning hit TV comedy series Modern Family and the filming of the show’s season premiere here at South Shore.
