Home invasion robbery leads to the arrest of three suspected South Lake Tahoe gang members
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/20/2014 - 10:49pmThree South Lake Tahoe men are sitting in the El Dorado County Jail tonight on charges ranging from participating in a criminal street gang, conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, robbery to manufacturing a controlled substance.
The charges stem from a home invasion robbery on October 11. Four men forced their way into a home in the Ski Run Blvd area, assaulted the victim and stole personal property. The victim reportedly knew the perpetrators.
Fun, wine and art part of Soroptimist fundraising event

Each month owners Jill and Frank Slipher provide a unique fundraising experience for a different non-profit to host a "FUNdraising" evening. They donate half of the $40/person fee back to the designated non-profit!

South Lake Tahoe Woman Faces Slew of Charges after Hit and Run
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/14/2014 - 6:44pmA 22-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman remains jailed Tuesday evening on charges of hit and run, resisting, DUI and assault with a deadly weapon. Alejandra Lopez was driving westbound on Highway 50 in the vicinity of South Tahoe Middle School at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday morning when the series of events occurred that landed her in a cell at El Dorado County Jail. Lopez is accused of splitting the two westbound lanes with her car, hitting the cars in each lane. The drivers of the two cars which were hit got of their vehicles after the accident when Lopez tried to run one of them over.

December 13, 2014 - 3:00pm Would you like to take part in the 3rd Annual Holiday Parade in South Lake Tahoe? Entries are now being accepted for this fun event which will take place on Saturday, December 13 at 3 p.m.
The parade route will begin at Ski Run Blvd and make it's way down Highway 50 to the Y.
All profits will go to the local food pantry, Christmas Cheer, who feeds approximately 1,000 families a month.
Families and businesses are welcome to participate for a fee of $50 per entry. Scout and school groups can participate for free though registration is still required.

Color Blast 5k Run/Walk in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday

Tahoe Youth and Family Services is holding their Color Blast Run this Saturday at Lake Tahoe Community College. This fun, fundraiser is a 5k walk/run around the LTCC campus, and it's not just any 5k walk/run! Participants get doused with color around the course so when they cross the finish line they're covered from head to toe in color!
The original run was postponed to October 11 due to unhealthy air in September from the King Fire. This weekend will be a great fall day for the event and it's not too late to sign up.

Changes on the South Shore: Tahoe Woods Condominiums

What was once a run down trailer park, and sometime homeless camp, will soon be a three story, 28 unit condominium complex named Tahoe Woods Condominiums. In an area at the southern end of Cedar and Manzanita Avenues, seven separate buildings are currently being constructed amidst the trees. The northern tip of the property is a pathway that runs adjacent to the Tahoe Meadows community.

It's always a lot of fun for dogs and their owners to take part in one of South Lake Tahoe's favorite events, the Mutt Strut Poker Run. Join the Animal Coalition of Tahoe as they put on the 10th annual event on Sunday, October 12.
Walk with your dog along a lakefront route, play poker and try to win a host of prizes. There will be raffles, music, games and fun for two and four
legged friends.

Marijuana grow houses becoming a problem in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/27/2014 - 12:59amThere are an estimated 500 unpermitted, illegal marijuana grow houses on the South Shore according to local law enforcement. In the city limits, South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler estimates there are 300 houses where marijuana is growing illegally with another 200 in the El Dorado County portion of the South Shore according to SLEDNET’s Matt Underhill. (SLEDNET stands for South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team, a joint drug enforcement task force)
Changes on the South Shore: Alta Mira building torn down to improve scenery
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/20/2014 - 9:38pmEarlier this year the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) purchased three properties in order to provide open space, improve water quality and remove blight.
The first of these properties, the Alta Mira Building, was demolished this week.
"We hope these acquisitions will be just the first wave of our renewed
efforts to partner with the City in helping to revitalize South Lake Tahoe," Tom Davis said in May when the Conservancy Board voted to purchase the building for $2.5 million. He sits on both the Conservancy Board and South Lake Tahoe City Council.
Free admission to the 25th Annual Lake in the Sky Air Show in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 9:11pmAir show officials have decided to drop the $10 entrance fee and offer free admission to all attendees for the 25th Annual Lake in the Sky Air Show this Saturday, September 20th from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Tahoe Valley Airport in South Lake Tahoe.
Last year's air show was canceled due to heavy smoke from the Rim Fire. Officials are monitoring the King Fire's smoke and movement, but at this time there are no flight closures and the aerial performances and all on ground activities are still going to occur.

Firefighters have put a line around 89% of the King Fire
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/14/2014 - 3:43pm9/28/14 10:00 p.m. update: 4,420 firefighters and support staff are still on the scene of the 97.099 acre King Fire which is now 89% contained.
After 4 days of precipitation with accumulations of 1-3 inches, fire spread has been halted, however heat remains in the heavier fuels and in the heavy duff sheltered from the rain under the dense timber canopy. As the weather turns warm and dry over the next several days, expect to see an increase in fire activity and smoke production; however spread potential is extremely low, doe to the successful suppression efforts.

On Friday, racers competed in the Emerald Bay Full and Half Marathons. There are 10 different races on Saturday: The Cal Neva Marathon, the Tahoe Nevada Half Marathon, a 5 mile Kayak Race, two and five mile Stand Up Paddle Races, Swim Races, Duathlon, Kids Fun Run, Super Hero 5k, 72 mile Loop the Lake Ultra Race and the Tahoe Double Marathon.
If that weren't enough action, Sunday is the main event plus 10k and 20 mile races.
Op/Ed: Proposition 46 - A Harmful Direction for Patients

While the initiative argues patient safeguards and seems well-intended, the proposition is flawed and costly. If passed as written, Proposition 46 would discourage doctors from working in California, jeopardize patient privacy, and increase patient and government healthcare costs.
Mountain Coworking Alliance allows members to work from California to Colorado

The Tahoe Mountain Lab opened on Ski Run Blvd last year and gives locals and travelers the opportunity to have a dedicated workspace when they need it and now members can travel to other ski resort towns and use other locations.
Other mountain communities that offer the same workspace opportunities are located in Frisco, Avon, Basalt and Durango, Colorado, Jackson Hole, Wyoming as well as in both North and South Lake Tahoe.

Expect surge of cyclists on South Lake Tahoe roads Sunday morning

The participating cyclists are taking off from the parking lot of MontBleu every 15 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and riding clockwise around Lake Tahoe back to MontBleu.
For people not wanting to ride all 72 miles there is a 35 mile Boat and Bike where participants ride the Tahoe Queen from the Ski Run Marina to the North Shore at 7:15 a.m. From there they will ride clockwise back to the South Shore.
Nevada National Guard, Gov. Sandoval remember IHOP shooting victims in memorial run

Brian Sandoval joined more than two dozen soldiers and airman, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and families Saturday to pay respects by jogging in a memorial run in Carson City to commemorate the four victims who died at the International House of Pancakes shooting on Sept. 6, 2011.
Shooting survivor Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Mock and Gen. Michael Hanifan, commander of the Nevada Guard, led the pack of runners and walkers on the 5K route from the restaurant to the Guard complex on Fairview Drive in Carson City.

The highlight of the day will be the Annual Labor Day Fireworks show. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

Heavenly looking to expand summer activities with Epic Discovery Project

The new project, located at Heavenly Mountain Resort, will expand their summer activities to include more canopy tours, hiking and biking trails as well as interpretive activities.
Since 2011 the U.S. Forest Service has allowed more summer activities on national forest lands.

Tahoe Douglas Sewer sued for failure to provide pay records
Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/24/2014 - 11:28pmThe Tahoe Douglas Sewer Improvement District is being sued for failure to abide by the Nevada Public Records Act and not providing payroll records when asked.
In a lawsuit filed in the Ninth Judicial District Court (covers Douglas County), the Nevada Policy Research Institute claims that the TDSI has refused to their request for the district's compensation records.
They say that, in the seven years NPRI has run TransparentNevada.com, the Tahoe Douglas Sewer Improvement District has been the least responsive government agency in Nevada.
Tahoe Kid's Triathlon to feature athletes 3 to 13 years old

Kids from the ages of 3 to 13 will be participating in Sunday's Triathlon in South Lake Tahoe. Each athlete will be swimming, biking and running in the area of the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center. Parents can help the kids in the Pee Wee group (3 to 6) only.

NHP still searching for driver involved in hit and run
Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/17/2014 - 10:23pmThe Nevada Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver of a silver 4-door Cadillac who was involved in a hit and run on August 7 in Sun Valley near Reno.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. the Cadillac rear ended a white Subaru on SR443 (Sun Valley Blvd) southbound just north of Second Street. After the collision the white Subaru pulled to the shoulder and stopped. The driver of the silver Cadillac continued South on SR 443 (Sun Valley Blvd) without stopping.

These positions, along with the El Dorado County Supervisor for Area 5 will all be voted by local voters on during the November 4.
Hit and Run in Carson City leads to high speed chase; Driver arrested in California
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 7:52pmA 53 year old Reno woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of suspected DUI and eluding officers after she led Nevada Highway Patrol troopers on a high speed chase into California.
Melanie Marnne-Lawson is suspected of rear ending a car in Carson City near the intersection of US 395 and Eastlake, then taking off towards Reno where the NHP spotted her. As they attempted to pull her over in South Reno, Marnne-Lawson failed to pull over for officers and took off reaching speeds in excess of 85 miles per hour along US 395.

Tahoe Queen gets stuck: 258 passengers transported to safety
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/04/2014 - 8:39pmWhat started off as a leisurely 90 minute cruise on the Tahoe Queen turned into quite the adventure for passengers on board Monday afternoon.
The boat was about 30 minutes into its Emerald Bay cruise when it became stuck on a sandbar. At about 3:30 p.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Department received a call that the Tahoe Queen was stuck off the Regan Beach shore. It is not known at this time why emergency personnel weren't called to the scene until 90 minutes after the Tahoe Queen got stuck.

Helicopter aides in search for man in South Lake Tahoe this evening
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/30/2014 - 10:21pmA missing man from the Fair Meadows Court area of South Lake Tahoe prompted a search by a CHP helicopter, El Dorado County Sheriff's officers and Search & Rescue Wednesday evening.
The man, a 66 year old from Pleasant Hill, CA, went out for a walk with his Siberian Husky late in the afternoon. When he didn't return to the home he and his brother and sister-in-law were staying at on Fair Meadows Court within an hour, his family became worried.

The 25th annual Lake in the Sky Air Show at Lake Tahoe Airport in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, California is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2014. The Lake in the Sky Air Show has been described as “the best in the west” by one of its many professional aerial participants.
This year’s show which will include exciting aerobatic performances by several top performers including Bill Cornick, Jon Melby and Spencer Suderman.
Bike trails in South Lake Tahoe getting $725,000 facelift
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/25/2014 - 11:45pmClass 1 bike trails on the south shore are undergoing a month long rehabilitation project which includes new pavement, striping, two new bridge deckings and new signage.
2.6 miles of existing trails that were installed over 20 years ago are seeing new life thanks to a $250,000 contribution through Measure R funds and $475,452 grant funding through Caltrans Bicycle Transportation Authority.
Ski Run closing today to prepare for Hot August Nights
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/24/2014 - 12:12pmDue to the fire at South Lake Tahoe's Deerfield Lodge overnight, many people may think Ski Run Blvd is closing Thursday due to the fire investigation, but that isn't the case.
As planned, Ski Run Blvd is closing between Forest Avenue and Birch Avenue starting at noon Thursday. The road will remain closed through Saturday.
All side streets are open and detour signs will be on the road.
