Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will be returning to South Lake Tahoe at the end of their two year tour of the United States. During their visit to South Lake Tahoe they will be sharing a variety of presentations, focussing on Green Tara the female Buddha of Compassionate Action. Events will include a Buddhist Philosophy Lecture by Venerable Geshe Wangyal, a Healing Ritual, an Empowerment/Blessing of Green Tara, a Meditation and Tibetan Calligraphy Workshop.

TODAY’S WEATHER: Expect Mostly Cloudy Skies. Chance of Snow in the afternoon. Highs: 32F-42F. (22F-32F on the Slopes). East Winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

TONIGHT: Cloudy with a chance of snow. Lows 21F-31F. Southeast Winds around 10-15 mph.

A man was taken into custody late Sunday night after leading Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a high speed pursuit that began in the Dresslerville area.

The pursuit began around 10 p.m. when the driver attempted to run over a sheriff’s deputy, according to dispatch via scanner. The pursuit ended at 10:43 p.m. with the man in custody after he had ditched the vehicle he was driving and fled on foot. Speeds during the pursuit were up to 125 mph.

The pursuit shut down multiple roads as the Nevada Highway Patrol and other agencies also intervened.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth, the local nonprofit tasked with feeding those in need on the South Shore, will be the beneficiary of the annual Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe.

Hosted by the Tahoe Chamber, the mixer will raise funds and gather food donations for the group's Bread & Broth 4 Kids program which gives away up to 170 bags of food each weekend to local school children in grades K-8.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first baby of the new year has arrived in South Lake Tahoe at Barton Health's Family Birthing Center. On January 2, 2019 at 5:38 p.m., a baby boy weighing in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 21" long was born to local residents Mordey and Shaina Richler.

This is the fourth child for the Richlers, who run Chabad Jewish Center. As customary with his parent's faith, Baby Richler will be named when he is eight days old.
