Are you a South Lake Tahoe area business owner or manager? If so, Mt. Tallac High School could use a few minutes of your time. Principal Holy Greenough would like you to talk to the students about interview skills, employment expectations and the job market. They prefer to schedule speakers on Fridays between 10:25 a.m. and 10:55 a.m.

There is no obligation to offer employment, Greenough just want her students to have an understanding of how to navigate in a work environment and what employers are looking for when they interview.

Lisa Utzig Schager from Wildwood DIY Boutique and Aubrey Pierce from Knits & Knots will be celebrating a dual ribbon-cutting event with the Tahoe Chamber on Friday, January 22 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the stores, located at 989 Tallac Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The date will mark Wildwood DIY Boutique’s one-year anniversary as well as the grand opening celebration of Knits & Knots.

Dear Mrs. Murdock, I’d like to thank you for taking your time to come every Monday morning to help me with all my work. Thank you for caring about my education and for driving across town to help me even when I am not always welcoming and sometimes don’t want to do any work. It honestly means a lot to me that you’re helping me on getting all my work done so I can catch up on my credits and graduate. It may not seem like it all the time but I count on your support and am grateful you don’t give up on me.

The yoga students and I would like to thank all the yoga instructors who have been coming to Mt. Tallac to teach yoga.

We have started to learn how to control our breaths and we’ve really enjoyed the course. When the students of Mt.Tallac first heard about yoga being an option for credit many were reluctant to even think about signing up for the course, but a small group of people were interested and now attend the course whenever they can.

The students have commented that they really enjoyed the course because it's really relaxing and calming in a fast paced world.

The annual Valhalla Holiday Faire will be held at the Tallac Historic Site this weekend, inside the Valhalla Grand Hall. This is an annual holiday tradition for many, who head out to the hall to see local artists, craftspeople, Santa Claus, choirs and musical groups.

After the grand opening Friday night, the faire continues on Saturday, November 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, November 22 the hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Who were the first residents of the Lake Tahoe basin? How do you convey the word "SOS" in Morse Code? What is the 1930's cabin tour? If you don't know the answers to these questions, ask a third grader.

In the month of October, 220 students from third grade classes in Lake Tahoe Unified School District took field trips to the Lake Tahoe History Museum where they spent a morning with hands on displays, singing and docent led museum tours.

The school tours started in 2010 when Jackie Dumin, the Tallac Site Director for the U.S. Forest Service, developed the program.

With more than 4,000 acres of land in the Lake Tahoe basin being burned by the U.S. Forest Service annually, prescribed burns have become an important part of keeping forests healthy.

On Thursday, I followed the Tallac Hotshots as well as Engines 41 and 42 from the U.S. Forest Service as they burned an eight acre parcel off Grass Lake Road in Christmas Valley.

Mt. Tallac High School would like to congratulate the following students for being chosen as the first round of interns to participate in the Mt. Tallac High School, School to Career program. Interns will learn job skills by working with school personnel in various jobs after school. After spending 3 months interning, attending counseling, and working on job readiness skills students will be placed for internships at South Tahoe Refuse our career partner as well as various local businesses. Our hope is that these students will gain the necessary skills to obtain employment in the community.

Holly Greenough wasn't sure what to expect at Mt. Tallac High's first Family and Community Fair and Barbecue.

"I thought maybe five or six parents would come for our first year," said Greenough, the school's Director. Instead, 21 families and ten community members/groups participated.

"The kids were excited to bring their parents, and the parents were grateful," said Greenough.

4 p.m. - Search and Rescue - Ralph Dr - EDSO SLT SAR RESOURCES ASSIST SLTPD WITH A SEARCH FOR A MISSING AT RISK PERSON.

Tallac Historic Site, Kiva Beach, Valhalla and the Taylor Creek Visitor Center will all be closed on Wednesday so the U.S. Forest Service can conduct pesticide treatments to reduce the risk of plague. The Pope-Baldwin Bike Trail will remain open, but signs will be posted where the trail crosses closed sites.

The gates to these areas will close on Tuesday evening, September 15 at 7 p.m. and likely reopen on Thursday morning, September 17.

Drug task force agents investigating the alleged sales and use of illegal narcotics in the South Lake Tahoe city limits arrested seven adults and confiscated drugs and paraphernalia.

Agents from the South Lake El Dorado Narcotic Enforcement Task Team (SLEDNET) served a search warrant at a home located in the 800 block of Tallac Road on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

Inside the home, they found 11 adults, seven of them who claimed to reside at the location.

If you missed the LIVE bats at Taylor Creek Visitors Center in July, you are in luck, they will be back this Friday August 21 at 8:00 p.m. Join Tahoe Heritage Foundation and NorCal Bats for a LIVE bat presentation. This event is open to the public and is a $5.00 donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Join Tahoe Heritage Foundation and Tahoe Institute for Nature Science on Friday July 14 for "Birds of Lake Tahoe" and the "Tahoe Big Year." This event will be held at Taylor Creek Visitor Center at 8:00 p.m. and is open to the public. There is a $5.00 donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Step back in time with a living celebration of the Roaring 20s at the Great Gatsby Festival at the Tallac Historic Site on August 8 and 9, 2015. The Tahoe Heritage Foundation and U.S. Forest Service is hosting this wonderful event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., both days, free admission for all ages.

Internationally bestselling author Garth Stein, whose book “The Art of Racing in the Rain” has sold more than 4 million copies and been published in 35 languages, will appear at Tahoe WordWave Oct. 9-11 at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe. His newest book, “A Sudden Light,” is set in a large historic house in the woods similar to Valhalla’s Grand Hall, the site of WordWave’s Friday night steampunk ball, held from 6-10 pm, kicking off with a Champagne reception with Stein. On Saturday, Oct.

Sherry Guzzi from Sierra Wildlife Coalition will be presenting “The Beavers of Taylor Creek” at Taylor Creek Visitor Center on Friday July 31st at 8:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and admission is a five-dollar donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

You're hiking along the trails of Lake Tahoe, fall and break your ankle. How do you get to the hospital? You're exploring the valleys and canyons of the Sierra, it gets dark and you don't know where you are. How do you get to safety? You've fallen on the slippery rocks of a waterfall and can't get out. Who do you call?

El Dorado Search and Rescue (SAR) is the answer to all of these questions and dozens more. Annually, the volunteers and deputies that make up SAR handle between 150 and 200 calls in the county portion of the Tahoe basin (AKA the east slope).

Join the Tahoe Heritage Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service at Lake of the Sky Amphitheater on Friday, July 24 for a fun and educational presentation by NorCal Bats. Learn about these amazing flying mammals and their importance to our ecosystem, such as insect control.

The live lecture is at Taylor Creek Visitor Center's Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. It is open to the public. Cost is a $5 donation which goes to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.
