Public meeting to discuss future of LTCC Theatre Arts academic program

New and traditional Halloween parties on the South Shore for adults

The 38th Annual Freaker's Ball, Lake Tahoe’s largest, oldest and most extravagant Halloween party, brings the wild with a four-ring costume circus in the Convention Center, Opal Ultra Lounge and Blu Nightclub venues at MontBleu on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. Cost is $35 prior to Saturday, then $40 at the door if tickets are available. Costume contest with prizes.

On Friday, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino holds the 2nd Annual Rockin’ Dead Halloween Bash inside Vinyl starting at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $25. Costume contest with prizes.

Theater program at LTCC may be discontinued; Room being made for community theater model

With three productions a year, and just seven degrees issued in five years, Lake Tahoe Community College is looking at eliminating their theater program and moving toward a community theater model.

Theater staff at the college were advised on Tuesday that LTCC administration is recommending to the Board of Trustees that they’re recommending discontinuing the theater program.

Over the past 1.5 years, administrators have been going through a process that included research on program vitality at the college.

WordWave returns to South Lake Tahoe: Workshops, plays and Steampunk all rolled into one weekend

Word Wave, a festival for readers, writers, and lovers of story has returned to South Lake Tahoe. The three day long Word Wave will feature readings, workshops, panels, music, and plays from October 21-23, 2016 at Tallac Historic Site.

Every culture has used, and continues to use, story to entertain, educate, preserve history and tradition, and connect and WordWave will celebrate those words and the story in all its forms for the second year on the South Shore.

Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Summer in South Lake Tahoe is already known for its outdoor entertainment – great beaches, hiking trails, kayaking, mountain biking, and more. I don’t often hear talk about South Lake Tahoe as a theatrical hub, but that really should change.

Missoula Children's Theater auditions for Pinocchio

LTCC to host open house about 4-year degree program

The two colleges are seeking community and student input to gauge the level of interest in the program. As the partnership between LTCC and SNC moves forward, it will bring an accredited four-year bachelor’s degree option to LTCC’s South Shore campus for the first time.

Valhalla Boathouse Theatre celebrates 20 years in South Lake Tahoe

It once housed The Shiek, a boat named in honor of Rudolf Valentino, friend and frequent guest to the Pope Estate in South Lake Tahoe. The Shiek was the biggest and fastest boat of its time on Lake Tahoe.

In the late 1800's it housed the boats of William Tevis who owned the 75 acre sprawling estate along the South Shore.

Word Wave announces playwright contest for their fall festival

Entries are open now for the second annual Lake Tahoe WordWave One-Act Play Competition. “WordWave, A Festival of Story at Lake Tahoe,” will return Oct. 21-23 to the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Winners of the play competition receive a $500 cash prize and the chance to see their work directed and produced as a staged reading on the historic Boathouse Theatre stage.

"Chasing Shadows," the most recent Warren Miller ski film will be shown at the theater at South Tahoe High on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Besides the movie there will also be a silent auction featuring custom skis, a hotel stay, ski boots, Sierra-at-Tahoe lift tickets and STHS Alpine Ski Team sweatshirts. Keith Urban announces tour stop at Harvey's Outdoor Arena

Keith Urban is set to embark on his first arena tour in two years.

His RipCORD World Tour 2016 will feature Brett Eldredge, who toured with Urban as a special guest on his 2014 Raise ‘Em Up Tour.

Newcomer and critical darling Maren Morris will join the tour as this year’s special guest, and Urban promises it will be one heck of a time.

“We’ll be playing a lot of new music from RipCORD, all new production, new cities where we’ve never played … and Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris? It’s gonna be potent and unbridled,” Urban said in Monday’s (Jan 11) announcement of the tour.

"The Loft" opens in South Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Village

The Loft opened on December 16 in South Lake Tahoe, offering the area's first indoor year-round live theater which also includes a lounge and Italian dining room.

Designed by PR Entertainment, the $1 million complex features 107-seats, a separate dining area serving authentic Italian cuisine, bar and upscale lounge, all on the top floor of Heavenly Village above the movie theater.

Following the 14-minute film, Dr. Albert Ponce, the LTCC History and Ethnic Studies assistant professor, will lead a discussion on the current immigration story and how it's changed.

The Loft at Heavenly Village opening soon with magic, food and drinks

The Loft at Heavenly Village has been in the works for months, and now it's just a few weeks from opening day on December 15.

The new indoor, year-round live theater is in a newly created space above the current Heavenly Village Cinemas created by PR Entertainment. It will include a bar and lounge, 107 seat theater and Italian restaurant featuring Chef Lisa Devenchezi-Miller, who also owns of Capisce? in South Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Tahoe: What to do this weekend

The inaugural Winter Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature stocking stuffers, gifts for Hanukkah and Christmas, and small prizes for attending. Death of a Salesman at Lake Tahoe Community College

Missoula Children's Theatre to present Peter and Wendy

The Tahoe Arts Project once again presents the Missoula Children's Theatre, this year with their production of Peter and Wendy.

It is a busy week-long experience for children ages 5 to 17. They will start off with auditions for over 60 roles on November 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Rehearsals are Tuesday through Thursday, November 3-6, then a production on Saturday, November 7 at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Lake Tahoe Dance Connection (LTDC) brings in professional dancers and choreographers for a weekend of dance, top instruction and fun at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The second annual Lake Tahoe Dance Connection will consist of a camp, August 12 – 14, and a Dance Intensive Weekend, August 15-16.

For the full summer dance experience, it is recommended that you enroll in both the Dance Camp and Intensive Weekend; however, registration is available for just one class, one day or either event. LTDC is open to a variety of age groups and levels, although dance experience is necessary.
