There will be 42 ski and snowboarders from the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association, South Tahoe Series (USASA - STS) who will be competing in the USASA National Championships hosted in Copper Mountain, Colorado from March 29, 2024 - April 11, 2024.

All of the South Tahoe Series athletes have had a wonderfully successful season filled with triumphs and progression. An invitation to Nationals is a major highlight for all of the athletes, they have all worked so very hard!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Friday Night RATS Community Race League at Heavenly Mountain Resort returns on March 15 and will continue through the championship round on April 5.

Everyone is invited to participate in the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. race series. Races will be held on 3/22, 3/29, and 4/5. To register, check in at the Foundation Building between 5 p.m. = 6 p.m. (lift access opens at 5:30 p.m.)

The cost is $100.

It was down to the last minutes before the buzzer of a season-ending game between the San Francisco Sabercats and Santa Clara Blackhawks that clinched the local Tahoe Grizzlies 10U youth hockey team one of four playoff spots next month in San Jose.

The Tahoe Ice Arena will be conducting another session of Learn to Play Hockey brought to you by the San Jose Sharks. Learn to Play is a program that provides a unique opportunity for families to join the hockey community and for participants to develop fundamental skills to help them succeed both on and off the ice. Created jointly by the National Hockey League Players’ Association and the National Hockey League, Learn to Play’s goal is to inspire youth and welcome more families into the hockey community.

South Tahoe High School (STHS) graduate Andrew Herrera excelled at wrestling while in high school and is continuing his winning ways in college. Herrera started his collegiate career at San Francisco State and is now wrapping it up at Southern Oregon University.

Herrera is currently ranked #2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) and his team is ranked #15 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) conference (where he is #13). He was recently named CCC's Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week after defeating two ranked opponents.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Head on down to the Tahoe Ice Arena and cheer on your Lake Tahoe Lakers as they take on the Las Vegas Thunderbirds this Friday through Sunday. This weekend marks the Lakers' last home games for the season so don't miss out on the action.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday and at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The Tahoe Blue Event Center’s inaugural hockey game was celebrated last Friday with a Tahoe win when the Tahoe Grizzlies 10U team defeated the Santa Rosa Flyers 7-4. The Tahoe Grizzlies team proceeded through the locally hosted Martin Luther King Tournament undefeated, beating the Ventura Mariners 5-1 and the Tri-Valley Blue Devils 10-0.

A closely played rematch with the Ventura Mariners for the tournament finals game on Monday resulted in the first championship in the event center being awarded to the Tahoe Grizzlies for their 4-2 victory.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced the start of a new youth basketball league. The focus of the recreational league is to teach the basics of basketball, introduce new players to the game, and improve the health of the players through physical exercise. The league is for boys and girls from the 3rd through 8th grade.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Tahoe Event Center is hosting a name and logo reveal party for the new pro hockey team on Thursday, November 30. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the announcement will be at 6 p.m. with the event ending at 8:30 p.m.

Fans will have the chance to score merchandise and receive the first look at season ticket pricing. There will also be tours of the new event center. There will be prizes to win, meet staff, and enjoy food and beverages.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a big day for Lake Tahoe Community College's (LTCC) soccer teams on Saturday when they both played in the California Community College Athletic Association's 3C2A Northern California Regionals.

This year is the first time since 2009 that a college has had both the men's and women's teams win the 2023 Golden Valley Conference, sending them to the postseason.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - This has been a month to celebrate state championships at South Tahoe High School (STHS). Not only did the boys' tennis team bring home the top trophy for 3A of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA), but so did the boys' soccer team.

Now the focus is on Sophomore Lyla Landy. She took the state title for Cross-Country, beating the field of 57 runners, leading from the first 1.5k mark through the end. Her time of 19:42 beat the second-place finisher, Tahoe Truckee's Sidney McInosh.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High School (STHS) Boys Tennis Team took top honors at the 2023 Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) 3A State Championships, the first time the school has won the state championship. STHS also has a third-place finish for its doubles team.

The STHS players won the state title by beating Boulder City 12-6 at Gorman High School. They beat Adelson 13-5, then Boulder City 12-6 to bring home the state champion trophy.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High School (STHS) Boys’ Tennis Team is on its way to the state championships to represent Northern Nevada on two fronts. Led by head coach Will Davenport and assistant coach Glenn Berberet, the team overall swept their division, going undefeated all season, thus heading to Vegas as the #1 seed for Northern Nevada in the NIAA 3A division. Truckee achieved the second seed to compete at the State Tournament which begins Thursday at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas. South Tahoe plays Adelson, the #2 seed for Southern Nevada at 8 a.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High School Vikings girls soccer teams play three games this week, with the first being a Tuesday match-up with the Truckee Wolverines at home. The Junior Varsity team plays at 2 p.m., followed by Varsity at 4 p.m.

The 9-1 Vikings are second to Truckee who are currently on top of the 3A Northern-West Girls standings with their 11-0 record. The Varsity team is riding a six-win streak as the two teams face off on Tuesday, October 17 at South Tahoe High at 4 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Ice Arena After School Program is back. All sessions are FREE for all kids enrolled in elementary schools throughout the Lake Tahoe Unified School District from 1:45 p.m. - 3 p.m.

The informal sessions began this week and will continue on Wednesdays throughout the school year. Skate helpers and helmets are distributed on a first come, first come basis, and all participants will need to complete an online, or in-person waiver in order to participate.

The ice arena is located at 176 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Major League Baseball is starting its own playoff season, but South Lake Tahoe had its own fall classic in baseball during recent the Lake Tahoe Chill Out baseball tournament.

Seven teams visited South Lake Tahoe to compete in the 13U baseball tournament at the South Tahoe Middle School fields. The Nevada Bandits hoisted the inaugural 'Chill Out' championship belt after a hotly contested, extra-innings win over the South Tahoe Chill Gold.

STATELINE, Nev. — Nigerian heavyweight Efe Ajagba hopes to take a giant leap towards a title opportunity when faces upset-minded Australian Joe Goodall in the 10-round main event Saturday, Nov. 4 at Tahoe Blue Event Center at Lake Tahoe. This will be the first boxing event at the venue, which opened earlier this month and had its first concert, Pitbull, this weekend.

Ajagba and Goodall fought as amateurs, with Goodall earning a decision in the semifinals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Do you miss all the Little League World Series youth baseball action? You can see some high-caliber playing at the South Tahoe Middle School ball fields on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24. Come support the local South Tahoe Chill 13U travel team as they host a seven-team regional tournament.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The San Jose Lil Sharks program will be returning to South Lake Tahoe for the Fall Session at the Tahoe Ice Arena. The Summer session sold out, and organizers are once again excited to introduce the great game of hockey to another group of kids.

The Fall Program begins in October and runs for six weeks. Participants are fitted with full gear, and sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis.
