All of the South Tahoe Series athletes have had a wonderfully successful season filled with triumphs and progression. An invitation to Nationals is a major highlight for all of the athletes, they have all worked so very hard!

Tahoe Basin Ski League wins Western US High School Championships, Whittell earns All-Academic Team
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/21/2024 - 7:21pmZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - George Whittell High School (Whittell) earned accolades this week, once for earning the NIAA Tahoe Basin Ski League All-Academic Team for having the highest GPA of its athletes, and second for Logan Robertson's abilities on the slopes.
Robertson represented Whittell at the Western US High School Championships in Mammoth, California this past week as a member of the Tahoe Basin Ski League team (TBSL). The team took first place in both Slalom and Giant Slalom as they competed against teams from seven different states.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Friday Night RATS Community Race League is returning to Heavenly Mountain Resort starting on February 16. The races take place on the World Cup Run with check-in and registration at the Foundation Building by the tram.
There is a maximum of five racers on each team - the best three times races will be scored. Handicaps are given for age, gender, and discipline. If you don't have a team, no worries, organizers can form teams with other racers.
Event Dates: 2/16, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5 -Championship - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
STHS grad earns collegiate wrestler of the week honors, heading into conference finals ranked #2

Herrera started his collegiate career at San Francisco State and is now wrapping it up at Southern Oregon University.
Herrera is currently ranked #2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) and his team is ranked #15 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) conference (where he is #13). He was recently named CCC's Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week after defeating two ranked opponents.

The STHS girls have an 8-2 record and meet the 6-4 Greenwave in the Blue Gym at STHS. The winner of that game plays the winner of Tuesday's matchup between Fernley and Hug in Elko on Friday, February 16. The winner of Friday's game plays in the Region Final Saturday, also at Elko High School.

Tahoe Grizzlies 10U wins MLK Hockey Tournament at Tahoe Blue Event Center
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/16/2024 - 10:39amThe Tahoe Blue Event Center’s inaugural hockey game was celebrated last Friday with a Tahoe win when the Tahoe Grizzlies 10U team defeated the Santa Rosa Flyers 7-4. The Tahoe Grizzlies team proceeded through the locally hosted Martin Luther King Tournament undefeated, beating the Ventura Mariners 5-1 and the Tri-Valley Blue Devils 10-0.
A closely played rematch with the Ventura Mariners for the tournament finals game on Monday resulted in the first championship in the event center being awarded to the Tahoe Grizzlies for their 4-2 victory.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Xtreme International Ice Racing is headed to the Tahoe Blue Event Center on Friday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 3 at 3 p.m. The racing event is presented by Reno Cycles & Gear. The action-packed event has racers going 0-60 in under three seconds.
Speedway bikes and quads will be modified to compete in the indoor ice arena. There are over 2000 metal studs added to the tires and there are no brakes on the bikes.

TubeTahoe is a locally owned experience and provides winter fun for the whole family in South Lake Tahoe. LTCC soccer teams win 2023 Golden Valley Conference titles; men's team wins first round playoffs

This year is the first time since 2009 that a college has had both the men's and women's teams win the 2023 Golden Valley Conference, sending them to the postseason.

Nominations include athletes aged 15 to 18, who qualified based on selection criteria.

Not only did the boys' tennis team bring home the top trophy for 3A of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA), but so did the boys' soccer team.
Now the focus is on Sophomore Lyla Landy. She took the state title for Cross-Country, beating the field of 57 runners, leading from the first 1.5k mark through the end. Her time of 19:42 beat the second-place finisher, Tahoe Truckee's Sidney McInosh.

South Tahoe High Boys Tennis Team wins first state championship, to be honored at LTUSD meeting
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/09/2023 - 4:22pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High School (STHS) Boys Tennis Team took top honors at the 2023 Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) 3A State Championships, the first time the school has won the state championship. STHS also has a third-place finish for its doubles team.
The STHS players won the state title by beating Boulder City 12-6 at Gorman High School. They beat Adelson 13-5, then Boulder City 12-6 to bring home the state champion trophy.

South Tahoe Middle School 7th grade girls basketball team ends season at 10-0

During the single elimination TAV-NEVA 7th grade Girl’s tournament, they also went undefeated with a 3-0 score competing against Whittell in the championship game.

Led by head coach Will Davenport and assistant coach Glenn Berberet, the team overall swept their division, going undefeated all season, thus heading to Vegas as the #1 seed for Northern Nevada in the NIAA 3A division. Truckee achieved the second seed to compete at the State Tournament which begins Thursday at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas. South Tahoe plays Adelson, the #2 seed for Southern Nevada at 8 a.m.

The Vikings play next in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday when they host Incline Village (3-7) at 12 p.m. for the annual Senior Game.
Tacos Por Favor will be on site, selling food as the girls play. The game is played on the football field at South Tahoe High School.

The Junior Varsity team plays at 2 p.m., followed by Varsity at 4 p.m.
The 9-1 Vikings are second to Truckee who are currently on top of the 3A Northern-West Girls standings with their 11-0 record. The Varsity team is riding a six-win streak as the two teams face off on Tuesday, October 17 at South Tahoe High at 4 p.m.
LTCC soccer teams head into last weeks of season atop the leader board
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/16/2023 - 10:51amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) soccer teams are both undefeated in conference play this season and are sitting atop the Golden Valley Conference (GVC) standings.
The two teams have won a combined seven GVC titles since 2014. The men's and women's teams have never won a GVC title in the same season so they are trying to change that in 2023.
The women are 5-0 in conference and 7-6-1 overall. They host Redwoods at the LTCC field in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Ice Arena After School Program is back. All sessions are FREE for all kids enrolled in elementary schools throughout the Lake Tahoe Unified School District from 1:45 p.m. - 3 p.m.
The informal sessions began this week and will continue on Wednesdays throughout the school year. Skate helpers and helmets are distributed on a first come, first come basis, and all participants will need to complete an online, or in-person waiver in order to participate.
The ice arena is located at 176 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

STATELINE, Nev. — Nigerian heavyweight Efe Ajagba hopes to take a giant leap towards a title opportunity when faces upset-minded Australian Joe Goodall in the 10-round main event Saturday, Nov. 4 at Tahoe Blue Event Center at Lake Tahoe. This will be the first boxing event at the venue, which opened earlier this month and had its first concert, Pitbull, this weekend.
Ajagba and Goodall fought as amateurs, with Goodall earning a decision in the semifinals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
South Tahoe Futbol teams do well at CUFA
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/22/2023 - 9:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Futbol Club (STFC) teams did well at last weekend's fall Come Up For Air (CUFA) tournament in South Lake Tahoe with five of the teams finishing either first or second.
The STFC-sponsored event attracted nearly 200 teams on both sides of the state line. The tournament is the local youth soccer club’s largest fundraiser and attracts teams from Nevada, Northern California, and other western states.
STFC teams that made the finals were:
U11 Coyotes (Boys), First Place, defeated Sierra Surf 5-4 in the championship

Alpine One crowned champions of 2023 LTCC Adult Coed League
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/09/2023 - 12:49pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Alpine Carpet One defeated Guadalajara last month and was crowned champion of the 2023 LTCC Adult Coed League.
In its third year of existence, the league had 12 teams and more than 250 players in what is the LTCC soccer program’s biggest fundraiser.
The league's season ran from May to July, with playoffs in August. Teams are coed fo those 18 and over,with nine players and a minimum of four women on the field at all times.
Lil' Sharks Program returns to South Tahoe Ice Arena

The Summer session sold out, and organizers are once again excited to introduce the great game of hockey to another group of kids.
The Fall Program begins in October and runs for six weeks. Participants are fitted with full gear, and sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis.
