Elementary schools will have full-day instruction Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Some travel impacts remain possible over the Sierra, especially in areas where heavier shower bands set up into Monday and possibly early Tuesday. The rest of the upcoming week will be dry with a significant warming trend later in the week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

South Lake Tahoe firefighters rescue family stranded in snow for hours

Leo Gebhardt and Blake Sturdivan were off duty and driving to a training when they turned a stressful and dangerous situation into one where a family is safe because of their actions.
Over the last weekend in March, Paul and Chris Harper were headed out on an adventure with their two children, 10-year Emi and 4-year-old Ollie. They were going to check out the cinder cones in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/25/2021 - 8:15amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Nevada Seismological Laboratory reported a 3.91 magnitude earthquake at 8:33 a.m. Sunday in the middle of Lake Tahoe. The shaking continued with a 2.5 magnitude two minutes later, a 1.9 magnitude at 8:40 a.m., 2.78 magnitude at 8:44 a.m. and 2.1 at 8:54 a.m.
All have been centered about 5.5 miles NNW of South Lake Tahoe, .62 miles WNW of Glenbook.
People in communities around Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley are reporting feeling the earthquakes.

While the meeting will be broadcast via Zoom, the board room will open to accommodate up to 20 observers. Should the maximum capacity be reached, attendees will be asked to also participate via this Zoom link.
Barton Health schedules South Lake Tahoe vaccine clinic for April 30

Appointments and priority are determined through MyTurn, the state of California’s universal vaccine sign-up portal. This clinic location and associated appointment options will be available in the portal early next week. Barton Health will announce on BartonHealth.org and its social media channels once those are available for booking through MyTurn.
Fitness Center at LTCC reopening to registered students, staff

While there will be some limitations in place due to COVID, it is now possible for students to register for Spring quarter FEC-related classes and use the facility once again beginning May 3. Lake Wind Advisory and Winter Storm Watch issued for Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/23/2021 - 5:05amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Old Man Winter isn't ready to head off to the Southern Hemisphere just quite yet. The National Weather Service in Reno has issued two weather statements - a Lake Wind Advisory and a Winter Storm Watch.
The Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from 5:00 a.m. Saturday to 3:00 a.m. Sunday. They are calling for southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected as are wave heights 2 to 4 feet. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
Educators Summit focused on growing Nevada teacher pipeline

Gardnerville man dies in single car collision in Douglas County

Humane Society's 2nd annual Trails for Tails Virtual Run

COVID-19 testing site moves from LTCC to Lake Tahoe Airport
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/22/2021 - 8:52amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After 11 months of providing the longest-running large scale COVID-19 testing site in El Dorado County, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is passing the torch and will no longer house the Logistics Health Incorporated test site in its gym.
The El Dorado Office of Emergency Services is relocating its COVID-19 testing center to the airport parking lot. They intend to conduct community COVID-19 testing at the airport/city hall through Fall 2021.

As the week has gone on the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has increased the chance of precipitation and presence of winds.
Until the storm, it will be fairly quiet with dry weather through Friday, according to NWS Reno. Temperatures will warm to above average by Friday.

The South Lake Tahoe Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1632, assisted with the celebration by allowing the Tahoe Sierra Kiwanians use of their Eloise Avenue facility to welcome members, past members and guests. A small group of 18 showed up on a beautiful South Lake Tahoe spring day to introduce former ‘Charter’ members to the current membership.

The Council voted unanimously to have staff proceed with accepting event applications and issue special event permits in accordance with current California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines. The City's Parks and Recreation Director Lauren Thomaselli told Council she has been fielding a lot of inquires for events.

City of South Lake Tahoe to vaccine 1500 residents in two-day clinic

People with appointments drove through on Sunday, April 18 and the next group is going through on the 19th. In total, 1,500 members of the community will receive a vaccine during the clinic.

A low pressure system will then drop into the area Tuesday and Wednesday with cooler temperatures, increased winds and chances for showers and upper elevation snow (yes, that word again). A few thunderstorms are also possible according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Drier and warmer conditions return later in the week with wetter conditions possible late next weekend.

Friends of the Library temporarily suspends donations of books
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/18/2021 - 1:05pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library appreciate book donations from the community they cannot accept them at this time. The group of volunteers is unable to process and store books as spaces used for storage and offices undergo mitigation.
The public spaces in the library are open and well ventilated and all services are available, but please do not bring in book donations as staff cannot accept them. Enjoy browsing their excellent collection and be especially kind to their talented and hard-working staff whose work space has been relocated.
Free community firewood permits available from California Tahoe Conservancy

Cut wood is available at many different locations where trees have been cut on its properties to reduce fire risk and improve forest health.
Currently there are sites in Meyers are South Lake Tahoe.
Fuelwood is collected on a first come first serve basis. Once a permit is issued there is no guarantee that fuelwood remains on the sites listed on the map. The map is updated all season long with new locations.

Azul Latin Kitchen raises $11,000 for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/18/2021 - 9:58amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even during a pandemic, Azul Latin Kitchen in South Lake Tahoe was able to continue its annual fundraising efforts for local nonprofits. In 2020, the popular restaurant in the Heavenly Village raised $11,000 for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.
Typically Azul hosts a fall fundraising party at the restaurant in December but with COVID 19 the annual event was canceled. The donation was largely in part to donations made from patrons who dined at the restaurant, and a partnership with Tahoe Blue Vodka.
