CHP - South Lake Tahoe issues 24 warnngs at right-turn ban locations
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/25/2021 - 6:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been two Sundays since the right-turn bans have been placed on North Upper Truckee and Sawmill roads. And during those two Sundays, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has issued verbal and written warnings for making a right turn to head west on US50 during 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on May 16 and May 23. The right-turn ban will also be in effect on holidays including Memorial Day May 31.

Long-standing local events are finally scheduled to return to Tahoe City, California this summer, signaling a return to “normal” for visitors and locals alike. The Tahoe City Downtown Association announced today that the 15th annual Tahoe City Solstice Festival, an event that celebrates the start of the summer season at Lake Tahoe, will return this year. Lake Tahoe Community College to hold traditional in-person graduation

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With COVID-19 cases falling and more community members receiving the vaccine, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is able to host a more traditional, in-person graduation ceremony this year on its soccer field.
Commencement will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, with limited guests and college staff, and faculty on hand to celebrate the Class of 2021’s remarkable achievements. Students who graduated last year with the Class of 2020 are also welcomed back to this year’s ceremony to enjoy a more traditional event with their loved ones.
Former Truckee resident, who was a UC Davis and Olympic veterinarian, sentenced for tax evasion

Shubb to six months in prison, six months home detention and a $30,000 fine for tax evasion, Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.
Snyder was also ordered to pay $134,497 in restitution. He faced a possible five years in prison and $100,000 per each of the eight counts in the original indictment.

Two sent to hospital after Spooner Summit crash
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/24/2021 - 10:29amOn Sunday, May 23, at approximately 5:25 p.m., two cars collided at the intersection of US-50 and SR-28, sending both drivers to the hospital via ambulance.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the driver of a red 2003 Subaru Forester was traveling southbound on SR-28 and failed to obey the posted stop sign at the intersection with US-50. At that same time, a black 2004 Nissan Xterra traveling westbound on US-50 struck the left side of the Forester.
One of the drivers had minor injuries and the other had non-life-threatening injuries, according to NHP Tropper Hannah DeGoey
Men arrested during human trafficking operation in Stateline
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/24/2021 - 9:56amDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Three adult men were arrested in Stateline Friday after an undercover human trafficking operation was conducted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), Reno Police Department Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT), and the Nevada Department of Investigation.
On Friday, May 21, 2021, DCSO arrested the three men who allegedly contacted undercover detectives believing they were underage minors for the purpose of having sex with the minors. The operation occurred in the casino core of Stateline, Nevada.
50th graduation class from Western Nevada College includes local residents

Collectively, the three drive-through ceremonies will honor 641 students who are approved to receive 669 degrees and certificates of achievement.
One of WNC’s largest Jump Start graduation classes — 140 — will be celebrated as these students graduate with an associate degree as they are graduating from high school.

As health systems and communities focused on managing the pandemic, people began to forgo their normal preventive care. Additionally, mental health concerns due to isolation and other social changes as a result of the pandemic became apparent. Addressing mental health issues is a high priority for Barton Health and as it is frequently identified as an area of need in our Community Health Needs Assessment.

Stenosis in your heart's blood vessels can lead to a heart attack. Stenosis in your esophagus can lead to choking, in addition to other instances in the human body. Spinal stenosis occurs when your spinal canal narrows and puts pressure on the nerves which travel through the spine, resulting in back and leg pain, numbness or tingling.

Homewood Resort adds electric boats and charging station at the marina

Following in the footsteps of the automotive industry transition to electric vehicles, the boating industry is now moving in the same direction. Starting June 1, Homewood will also have electric boats available to book.
Homewood Resort, and its management company JMA Venutres LLC, are leading the transition and building on its track record of environmental stewardship.

Barton Foundation's COVID-19 respond fund provides over $420,000 in food assistance

The fund has resulted in over $420,000 in donations to over 6,000 residents through the South Lake Tahoe and Stateline area.

He is survived by his three sons and their wives (Alan / Nancy, Gary / Marja and Steve / Donna), 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Bill was born to Harry and Katie (Hornbeck) Russell on Aug. 25, 1930 in Klamath Falls, OR. He was the youngest child in a family of 10 children (with 3 sets of twins).

South Shore 4th of July fireworks canceled for 2021

The Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority announced Wednesday they will be canceling the 2021 Fourth of July “Lights on the Lake” fireworks display following months of careful discussion and consultation with area partners.
This follows the decisions by organizers of North Lake Tahoe and Incline Village fireworks shows to not hold them this year.
Interactive Reading Forest project installed at Taylor Creek

A new exhibit has been installed at the Taylor Creek Visitor's Center in South Lake Tahoe entitled "Reading Forest" that involves both kids and adults in the telling of a tree's story during its life. Reading Forest is a path of artwork that explores ideas of forest health, change, and resilience created by environmental artist Todd Gilens.
Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe receives $200,000 from City's cannabis revenue

The monies come from the allocation of the available balance in the Cannabis Program fund which at the is time is about $660,000.
The agenda item was for a $100,000 disbursement, but the discussion moved to a higher amount after a community member suggested it since the fund has it available and will only grow in the future.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dr. Sudeep Chandra, University of Nevada Associate Professor of Limnology in the Biology Department, will be speaking at the next Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club meeting on Thursday, May 20.
Dr. Chandra spoke during the recent Tahoe Fund Talks on the subject of the clarity of Lake Tahoe and what is going on beneath the surface, and on the land, that affects the famous blue of the lake.
The theme of his talk at Soroptimists is "Life beneath Tahoe Waters - The Good, Bad, and the new discoveries."

Lake Wind Advisory in place for Lake Tahoe Wednesday
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/18/2021 - 9:19pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Th National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has a Lake Wind Advisory in effort for the Lake Tahoe Basin Wednesday, May 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The advisory is for South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, Truckee, Markleeville, Stateline, Glenbrook, and Incline Village.
Expect southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Waves 1 to 3 feet are possible. Expect a few wind-prone locations to jump up into the 40-50 mph range.
Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care is asked often, "What do you need?" They are taking care of those requests with their first "Reverse Garage Sale" from May 20 - May 24.
Here is how it works:
Check out their list at https://ltwc.org/reverse-garage-sale/. These are all items the non-profit regularly uses including medical supplies, general supplies, animal food, and facility and animal equipment.
Drop the items off during the Reverse Garage Sale at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, 1551 Al Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe.
