This is my comment on Mr. Seth Dallop's Opinion piece about Barton Hospital's relocation plans.
The recent discussions surrounding the relocation of Barton Health to Stateline, Nevada, deserve closer scrutiny. While the intent to build a new hospital campus may initially seem beneficial, it is important to examine the broader implications for South Lake Tahoe and the surrounding communities.

He detailed the potential for secondary economic effects that were dire, and possibly correct. There is only one problem with his article: the premise is incorrect, leading to his false conclusions.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After months of trying solutions to end a growing problem in the South Tahoe High School (STHS) restrooms, the school's leadership is taking new steps.
Since last year, students have been increasingly hanging out in school restrooms, vaping, and causing damage, much of which is part of a TikTok challenge. The challenge has run rampant across the country, causing kids to rob, steal, and damage their school restrooms, and STHS Principal Justin Zunino says it's not going away like some challenges, causing some real health and safety concerns.
League to Save Lake Tahoe files lawsuit against Placer County over Village at Palisades project

The County Supervisors approved the plan during a marathon meeting on November 19 that the League states will worsen traffic congestion, increase air pollution, erode roadways, and degrade water quality in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The League joins conservation group Sierra Watch in the lawsuit.
Lake Valley Fire's decorated engine starts nightly rounds December 11

The truck runs December 11-23 and starts its nightly journey at dusk.

The Tahoe Knight Monsters defeated the Allen Americans 4-3 on the road in a jam-packed Wednesday night showdown. Adam Robbins scored twice, Sloan Stanick notched the game-winning goal on the power play, and Jesper Vikman won his second straight start with a 24-save effort.
This is Tahoe’s first-two game sweep of the season, and the two points vault them up to fourth in the mountain division.

Under the Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan, TRPA must conduct an annual lottery to distribute a limited number of allocations for new moorings, such as buoys and boat lifts, until the cap on new moorings is reached.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif – Caltrans has released the Draft Environmental Document for a proposed $25 million project on State Route 89 (SR-89) in El Dorado County at Meeks Bay.
This project is proposing to replace the Meeks Creek Bridge and construct a new bridge on SR-89 to provide a fish and wildlife passage, repair scour damage, provide bicycle and pedestrian access, add a Maintenance Vehicle Pullout, and restore the Meeks Creek channel within Caltrans right of way.

Join them for this free community event - all children in grades TK through 6th are invited. There is an overwhelming amount of planning to be done, expectations to uphold traditions are high, and stress rises due to impending financial strain and possible family conflicts. It’s hard to know what we can do to help others through the challenging holiday season.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are no signals for a significant storm in the next one to two weeks, but possibly a weak slider around Dec 8. The temperatures will be highly variable across the region -- those areas remaining trapped with fog/stratus staying near or below freezing, while other valley locations may warm into the upper 40s. Temps are well above normal in the mountains -- with high temps into the 50s and lows near or above freezing.

St. Theresa’s Bread & Broth once again held its Thanksgiving meal to provide a holiday dinner for those who might not have the opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast that many of us take for granted. Except for the two years during the pandemic, Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers have been hosting this free community traditional event for 33 years. Over the years, thousands of community members have enjoyed the heaping servings of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls, and their choice of pumpkin, cherry, apple, or pecan pie.

The ballot measure was a citizen-initiated one that restricted vacation home rentals (VHRs) in South Lake Tahoe located in residential areas. They were still allowed in non-residential areas (tourist core, commercial, recreation) and residents were allowed to rent their homes, no matter the location, up to 30 days per year.

All proceeds go to support members of the community currently undergoing treatment by providing transportation and when needed, small grants to make their lives easier.
This chocolaty sweet event begins on December 2 and runs through December 21 They are open daily at the American Legion from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College Women's Soccer team has a big home game on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Coyotes will be battling City College of San Francisco for a trip to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA or 3C2A) Final Four.
The game will be held at South Tahoe Middle School.
The LTCC team is 10-0 in the Golden Valley Conference this year, 19-1-2 overall, and is riding a 15-game winning streak. San Francisco is 8-1-2 in the Coast-North division, 16-2-3 overall.
Inmate in El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe found deceased in cell
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/29/2024 - 12:04pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An inmate in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe was found unresponsive in his cell at about 5:30 a.m. Friday. Correctional officers, jail nursing staff, and fire personnel attempted life-saving measures however the inmate was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The identity of the inmate will be provided by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s (EDSO) Office after the next of kin has been notified.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on November 28, the crash occurred between a green 2001 Toyota Sequoia (traveling west) and a silver 2015 Chevrolet Traverse (traveling east) near US-50 east of Audrain Way. The Toyota and Chevrolet collided head-on in the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

ROWLAND'S, LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - November 30, 1876 - Yes, this says the following story is from Rowland's Lake Tahoe, and yes, it says November 30, 1876 - 147 years ago. The following is a letter received by the Bradford Opinion and published on February 3, 1877. The weekly newspaper was published from 1874-1881 in Bradford, Vermont.

Creamy, comforting green bean casserole made completely from scratch. Thanks to fresh green beans, an easy homemade cream sauce and crispy onion topping, this green bean casserole recipe is healthier and more delicious than traditional recipes that use canned soup, beans and onions.
Baked “Fried” Onions:
1 large onion
½ cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup Panko breadcrumbs
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
1 large egg
1 Tbsp. milk
Green Bean Casserole:
1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp salt, divided
1 lb. fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed and halved
2 Tbsp. butter

Bread & Broth was one of 26 local non-profit organizations that received grants funded from proceeds from the celebrity golf tournament held in South Lake Tahoe each summer.
