Car fails to yield, hits Lake Tahoe Unified School District bus, injuring two
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/24/2024 - 11:21amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was a collision between a bus from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) and a Toyota Rav 4 on Friday morning, just before 8 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the bus was traveling on Sacramento Avenue when the Toyota pulled out from Merced Avenue where there was a stop sign, failing to yield to the bus which had the right of way. The vehicle then hit the bus.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It seems like yesterday when the Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) trustees and leadership team joined the community in turning over the first shovels of dirt at the site of the college's dream of 50 years, an on-campus dormitory.
The date was August 9, 2023, when the college kicked off the building of a 32,000 square foot, 33-room, 100-bed dormitory between the library and the gym, overlooking Trout Creek.

Beverly, “Bev”, was born to Everett and Helen Milne, the second daughter of four girls. She is survived by two of her sisters, Margie Dunham of Redding, CA and Darlene Rumboltz (Matt) of Round Mountain, CA, and preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Coffman.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation’s (LTEF) Celebration of Education was held on May 16 at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Over 150 people enjoyed the event which featured creations by the South Tahoe High School (STHS) culinary students, led by teacher David Jones. Guests enjoyed prosciutto and salami, focaccia, olive tapenade, orzo salad, chicken skewers, fresh fruit, and grilled vegetables. As guests ate, STHS music teacher Jordan Bagheri’s Jazz Band played on the scenic patio overlooking the golf course.

During their hours-long meeting Tuesday evening, the Douglas County School Board chose three of the six superintendent candidates to move forward into the interview process.
The previous superintendent select ended up not being offered a contract following public outcry after it was revealed he had a criminal and mismanagement history from multiple other school districts.

Special guided tours of Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery on May 25
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/22/2024 - 7:24amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery will be open for public tours on Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. Walk through the historic cemetery built land in the 1870s town of Rowlands which was at the end of what is today Lakeview Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. Located at 790 Alameda Avenue, this is the only historic cemetery in the Lake Tahoe basin. It is the final resting place for some of Tahoe’s earliest settlers.
Learn about who is buried there, and what the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery Improvement Committee has been up to in preserving this part of Lake Tahoe's history.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office responds to drowning at Topaz Lake
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/21/2024 - 8:21pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – On May 19, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), along with East Fork Fire, responded to the end of Comstock Drive at Topaz Lake for a reported drowning. When deputies and fire personnel arrived, citizens had already moved the victim onto the shore and started performing CPR.
The victim was transported to Carson Valley Health Hospital in Gardnerville where he was pronounced dead. It appears that he was attempting to get a buoy out of the water when he drowned.
Another mechanical forest thinning project to begin near South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/21/2024 - 7:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is scheduled to begin mechanical forest thinning next week on approximately 687 acres along the Pioneer Trail corridor from Ski Run Blvd. south to Meyers. The Al Tahoe Mechanical Contract is part of the South Tahoe Fuels Treatment Project intended to reduce the risk of severe wildfires near neighborhoods and create healthier forests in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

In the week ahead, an upper-level low will be moving north of Lake Tahoe, but temperatures trend roughly five degrees lower on Wednesday as some of the cooler air filters in behind the cold front. The air is unstable, bringing a chance of rain before mid-week and again over the weekend.

South Lake Tahoe Firewise communities schedule spring workshops/work days

The first area neighborhood to become Firewise certified was Al Tahoe, leading the way for others to learn how to work together to reduce the threat of wildfire and show insurance companies their results in hopes of not being canceled.

On Friday, May 10, the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) and school district representatives gathered to celebrate the achievements of their most exceptional administrators at the annual Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) El Dorado County Chapter Awards Dinner. Held at Jack Russell Farm Brewery in Camino, the ceremony was a testament to educational excellence and a heartwarming evening filled with laughter and poignant moments.
The Lake Tahoe Unified School District's Associate Superintendent, Educational Services Dr. Alan Reeder was among those awarded.
El Dorado County Supervisors approve annexation of Meeks Bay Fire into North Tahoe Fire
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/16/2024 - 10:23pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the annexation of the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District into the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, getting all parties closer to the final step in a lengthy process.
The County's Ad Hoc Annexation Committee along with the Chief Administrative Officer's office both made the recommendation to dissolve Meeks Bay Fire and annex the district to North Tahoe Fire.

Marie Finkes is the director of FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Carson City, and said that over the past year, there have been 12 bodies under her care that have been subject to extended stays. This is due to the fact that Carson City Public Administrator Scott Hoen has ignored their repeated requests for an electronic signature releasing the body for cremation.

Ricardo Serrano Perez
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office (DA) and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) tried for six years to have Ricardo Serrano Perez extradited to Nevada after the sexual assault of a minor. They were successful on October 9, 2023, and today Serrano Perez was sentenced to 20 years in the Nevada Department of Corrections.
