The view from Heavenly was great with a cloud cover over the lake below. This week, expect more of the same with a valley inversion layer, dry weather, and near-average temperatures courtesy of a high-pressure system.
Dry conditions look to continue at least through the end of next weekend, though there is a small chance of the end of a system on Sunday.

While some are caused by unavoidable accidents, some injuries can be prevented. Preparation, mindfulness, and a proactive approach can make all the difference between a day on the slopes and an unforeseen trip to the emergency room.
The medial cruciate ligament (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are the most prone to injuries when skiing. These ligaments contribute to the stabilization of the knee, and can become compromised in high-speed/high-impact sports such as skiing.

Six Nevadans, three from Douglas County, indicted in fake elector plot

Three of the six are Douglas County residents, with one, Eileen Rice, the wife of Douglas County Commissioner Wes Rice, and a Lake Tahoe resident.

Douglas County School Board Trustee Tony Magnotta submits resignation, calls out new board members

Magnotta has been one of the three longer-term trustees who have butted heads with the three new trustees who have been the center of controversy since being elected in November 2022.
Magnotta said he has spent the last year not being listened to and being subjected to "harassment and veiled threats."

40 acres of prescribed fire operations added to Lake Tahoe schedule

USDA Forest Service firefighters are scheduled to begin burning piles tomorrow off Cathedral and Spring Creek roads on the south end of Lake Tahoe, weather permitting.
The three new spots:
Cascade 132-USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Location: Spring Creek Road and SR89 near South Lake Tahoe. Burn Type: Hand Piles.

Since I80 and US50 are both what are deemed "alternative fuel corridors," there must be a station every 50 miles and within one mile of that highway but there is no requirement within cities and counties. In a tourist destination like Lake Tahoe, stations need to be strategically placed for their travel while also meeting the needs of residents.

South Lake Tahoe man accused of stealing over a million dollars from a non-profit retail chain

The indictment was unsealed after the arrest.

One would correctly guess that the book is too old to be in a library. There are old books like this in South Lake Tahoe school libraries, and Lift Literature is on a mission to refresh those libraries with current books. Libraries are a hub for inspiration, as well as powerful and critical information. More often than not, the school library is the only place Tahoe kids have access to books.

South Lake Tahoe City Council approves additional $500K for expanded Lake Link service
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/06/2023 - 5:11pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Lake Link microtransit service is being expanded in South Lake Tahoe. The next phase will move the service area west along US50 to Lodi Avenue, encompassing the Tahoe Sierra (Sierra Tract) and Highland Woods neighborhoods.
The South Lake Tahoe City Council approved the additional funding of $500,000 to support the expanded service which is provided by the South Shore Transportation Management Association (SSTMA).

December 9, 2023 (All day) As winter approaches and activities begin to shift indoors, the Tahoe Ice Arena is offering a FREE learn to skate class for kids aged 4-9 years old. This class is designed to teach the basics in balance, learning how to fall, get back up, and basic strides. The FIRST CLASS is FREE and all others classes after December 9th are $10. Participants should dress warm, wear gloves, and a helmet. Bike, snowboarding, ski, and skate board helmets are fine. Participants who purchase any Learn To Skate Session can attend the Public Session afterwards for free in order to work on their skating.

Incoming storm gets Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday-Thursday
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/06/2023 - 1:31pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area to be in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. Thursday for areas above 6,000 feet.
Snow is expected above 6000 feet. Snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches, except 1-2 feet above 8000 feet. Ridge winds gusting as high as 100 mph.

Denny's closes in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/06/2023 - 11:26amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Monday morning, employees were caught by surprise when they were told the Denny's in South Lake Tahoe would be closing that day. After 40+ years in business, the franchisee closed the doors.
Franchise owner Paul Schmidt said it was multiple reasons leading to the closure, starting with COVID. He said sales had declined since the pandemic, and then the Caldor Fire didn't help. He said while the volume at the restaurant was never high, they did okay until people started staying away from South Lake Tahoe.

Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe; NV Energy issues PSOM for Carson-Genoa
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/05/2023 - 6:34pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. Expect winds from the southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and waves 2 to 4 feet for Lake Tahoe.
Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
NV Energy has issued a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) warning for the Carson City - Genoa area for Wednesday, December 6.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Christmas Engine schedule

It will be at the City of South Lake Tahoe/Lake Tahoe Historical Society Festival of Winter Lights on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College's Rock Ensemble class is holding a class performance on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Duke Theatre.
Directed by Liz Broscoe, the suggested donation is $5 with all proceeds going to Encompass Youth, a South Lake Tahoe-based 501(C)(3) nonprofit.
Broscoe, a talented and renowned percussionist, will also be performing.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show. The Duke Theatre is located on the Lake Tahoe Community College campus, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.

Even though two of the planned Adopt A Day sponsor crew members were unable to attend due to being under the weather, the sponsor crew arrived with two ‘substitute’ team members to replace the ailing Tahoe Green Dispensary employees.

Lake Valley Fire releases holiday truck schedule
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/04/2023 - 4:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Valley Fire Department has been busy putting on all of the holiday decorations on their fire truck so they can make the rounds this season. This year, they are trying to add a Santa Tracker, so once available it will be posted here and on the fire department's social media.

Prescribed fire operations around Lake Tahoe this week

The USDA Forest Service will be burning off Fountain Place Road off Pioneer Trail near South Lake Tahoe. 34 acres of hand piles will be burned 12/06-12/2023.

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) is scheduled to continue widespread prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. Smoke from these operations may be present throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding areas.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/04/2023 - 2:32pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department with assistance from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and Lake Valley Fire Protection District are conducting prescribed burns around the Lake Tahoe Airport starting on Wednesday, December 6 through Tuesday, December 12. The prescribed burns will take place over 22 acres with an estimated 230 identified piles to burn.
