SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - "Broadway Live Goes to the Movies" is coming to South Lake Tahoe February 3-4 to raise money for the Black Ice Theatre Co and the Barbara Kelly Memorial Scholarship Fund.

There will be music played by the Broadway Live Band as well as some backing tracks – they’re covering favorite songs from iconic movies over the years with a great crew of vocalists! This is intended to be a fun night out to laugh, experience nostalgia, and possibly even boogie a little!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The U.S. Post Office in South Lake Tahoe has had many challenges in getting the mail out for the last month - few postal carriers meeting increasing demand with more home delivery customers and an ever-growing number of online package delivery. STATELINE, Nev. - To help fill a critical need for blood, Tahoe Douglas Fire and Douglas County have joined with Vitalent Blood Services for a blood drive on Friday, January 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kahle Community Center.

All people donating will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to the Super Bowl, accommodations and fan parties.

The blood drive will be in the Kahle Center Tallac Activity Room, 236 Kingsbury Grade Road, Stateline, NV.

Chase International released its 2022 Year-end Real Estate Market Report which showed a lower overall volume in sales and available units for sale. Still, year over year, there is consistent value growth for homeowners throughout the Northern Nevada and California markets.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Those watching the roads around Lake Tahoe during storms will often see a California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident where a "big rig" is stuck going around Emerald Bay on SR-89.

During normal conditions, a truck and attached trailer have a difficult time making the switchbacks just south of Emerald Point but add snow and the situation is dangerous.

The highway around Emerald Bay has been closed during the most recent storms, yet two large trucks have had to be towed after being stuck at the switchbacks just before the road closure gate.

Kingsbury Grade/SR207 is closed along the entire route due to extreme weather conditions and numerous vehicle spin-outs. It is unknown at this time when it will be safe enough to reopen.

I-80 is closed from Colfax to the Nevada state line due to whiteout conditions.

US-50 is currently open but has been closed at times Tuesday due to conditions and avalanche control. Chains or 4WD with snow tires are required from Meyers to Cedar Grove at this time.

US-50 at the base of Spooner Summit near US-395 is closed.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Power outages during or after winter storms have become a common occurrence in our region. When the power goes out, especially for prolonged periods of time, being prepared can help reduce anxiety and keep you and your family safe until the lights come back on.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High Dance Team is hosting a community favorite, Dance team For a Day. Youth in grades TK-8 are invited to join in the fun, learn a routine, and perform during the South Tahoe High Basketball team's halftime during its January 21, 2023 game.

Participants receive a special T-shirt, lunch, and practice with the dance team. The cost is $55.

CARSON CITY — The state Transportation Board of Directors on Monday unanimously approved the appointment of Tracy Larkin-Thomason as the Director of the Nevada Department of Transportation. Larkin-Thomason will officially assume her new role as director on Jan. 17, 2023.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a perfect storm over the holiday weekend at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe, and it wasn't just the snow. A massive power outage over the New Year's holiday weekend on the Nevada side of the ski resort forced all operations onto the California side and shut down mountain access via the gondola. This left just the California Base Lodge as the only access point to the mountain after feet of snow fell, creating what should have been an epic day on the slopes.

Instead, it was a parking and mountain access nightmare.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. During a short break in the winter storms this weekend, Douglas County urges residents and businesses to take stock of their precipitation defense plans and evaluate additional steps that may need to be taken.

According to the US National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for northeast California, the Sierra Nevada, and the Eastern Sierra for heavy snow. The warning is in effect o 4 a.m. Wednesday, January 11.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is another power outage in South Lake Tahoe. This time, 4,637 customers are without power.

Liberty Utilities crews are responding and at this time, no cause has been released. They estimate to have power restored by 5:05 p.m.

UPDATE: Due to weather and canceled flights, Tahoe Arts Project is postponing the TJ Carter concert set for this week in South Lake Tahoe. Plans are to reschedule for March. Details to follow.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tahoe Arts Project presents TJ Carter on Friday, January 13 at 6 p.m. in the Thunderbird Theater at Tahoe Valley Elementary School. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. There are no presale tickets and admission will be taken at the door.

6:30PM UPDATE: Power has been restored to most of the affected Liberty Utilities in South Lake Tahoe. The Hope Valley customers are still out.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is another power outage in South Lake Tahoe, this time in Bijou Pines along with a segment near Ski Run Blvd. There is also an outage for 27 customers in Hope Valley and another near Markleeville with 71 customers in the dark.

According to Liberty Utilities, a total of 2,831 customers are without power.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The new year continues to bring heavy snow and rain. This is great for water supply but very challenging for utility agencies. During power outages, South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) asks customers to conserve water, as all the water and sewer pumps are running on emergency generators. If your neighborhood is flooding, the wastewater collection system and treatment plant are likely being inundated. Do not open manholes. Run sump pumps into the storm drain and not into the sewer system.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Eric Cachinero has been hired as the new Douglas County community relations manager. He began his new role on December 28, 2022, at the Douglas County Manager’s Office in Minden. In this position, he is responsible for managing public outreach and community relations for Douglas County and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
