TRUCKEE, Calif. — With the Mosquito Fire and Tamarack Fire burning close to Lake Tahoe, and the Caldor Fire entering the Tahoe Basin, the Tahoe Fund and Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation announced the deployment of Land Tender™. This is a powerful new software tool developed by Vibrant Planet, that will allow land managers to collaboratively address wildfire threats and plan forest health and restoration treatments. Land Tender will be used in the Tahoe Basin and surrounding critical watersheds covering 1.5 million acres, making this the largest deployment to date of this new system.

Through October 1, all adoption fees at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) are waived for pets over four months old! Normally, the fee for dogs 5 months and older is $110, and for under four months is $160. Save a life, save a lot!

All pets adopted at HSTT are already spayed or neutered which normally runs $700 for the surgery, more for larger dogs. Also, every pet adopted from them includes an initial medical check, current vaccinations, and a microchip, a savings of $300-$400.

Yesterday, the eastern flank of the Mosquito Fire was mostly quiet with ongoing patrol, mop-up, and construction of contingency lines. In the late afternoon, as some of the large-diameter trees began to smoke again after last week’s rain event, aircraft were deployed, providing support ahead of ground crews.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit in partnership with Great Basin Institute will continue mechanical whole tree fuels reduction (thinning) operations around neighborhoods and powerline corridors off Pioneer Trail near Meyers, Calif.

Thinning is scheduled to begin this week in Montreal Unit 25 near the intersection of Pioneer Trail and US Hwy 50. Cutting in Unit 8 is complete at this time, but log hauling will continue for the next week or two.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The multi-day car show called Lake 2o caused numerous problems on the South Shore in August of 2020, and their next event coming up October 19-23 promises to be much tamer and controlled, according to organizers.

South Tahoe Vikings Booster Club is starting 2022-23 off with a bang and they are inviting the South Lake Tahoe community to join in the fun. This year, Boosters is coordinating the rejuvenation of the South Tahoe High School (STHS) QUAD - the center of campus - for the students to have a great outdoor space to hang out in!

After a general cleanup, Boosters will be adding boulders, logs, native vegetation (in planter boxes- with the help of the STHS Garden Club), and 40 different outdoor tables and benches for students and staff to congregate at. And they are looking for support!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a home on James Avenue Friday night after being dispatched to a report of a man with a gunshot wound.

At 6:07 p.m., SLTPD responded and found a man with a life-threatening wound. He was transported to Barton Hospital where he later passed away.

Detectives are at the home tonight, investigating the incident. According to SLTPD Det. Scott Crivelli, there is no threat or risk to the community, but there are no other details to be released at this time.

Caltrans is alerting Interstate 80 (I-80) motorists in Truckee to expect an extended closure of the Central Truckee eastbound off-ramp for continued reconstruction work.

Originally scheduled to reopen on Friday, September 23, the closure of the I-80 eastbound off-ramp at Central Truckee (Exit 186) has now been extended through 5 p.m. Monday, October 3 due to weather delays. The off-ramp is being reconstructed with paving, joint sealing and striping work still required before the ramp is reopened to motorists.

Liberty’s robust year-round vegetation management program prunes and/or removes vegetation that may pose a risk to electrical infrastructure. A bi-product of this work is green waste or, in other words, a lot of wood. In support of Liberty’s commitment to sustainability, when possible, Liberty delivers this green waste to facilities that can repurpose it, such as Eastern Sierra Landfill, which chips the wood and provides it to Full Circle Compost in Carson City.

Now in its 25th year, Tahoe Forest Stewardship Days (TFSD) events have empowered thousands of volunteers to restore important but fragile ecosystems across the Lake Tahoe Basin. These efforts protect Lake Tahoe’s beauty, as well as its famed water quality and clarity by restoring the environment’s natural functions.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is asking for the public's assistance to identify individuals that were possibly involved in several vehicle break-ins in the Zephyr Cove area in August.

Several vehicles were broken into on August 21 in the later afternoon, and at least one purse containing credit cards was stolen. After the break-ins, one of those stolen credit cards was used at the Round Hill Safeway. Video surveillance from the transaction revealed two possible suspects, a male, and a female.

Tahoe’s boat inspectors delivered some excellent news this month. This boating season, we experienced one of the lowest years on record of boats detected with dangerous quagga and zebra mussels, these following several years of troubling increases. The even better news is that since mandatory watercraft inspections began in 2008, there have been no new aquatic invasive species (AIS) detected in Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, calif. - The 5th annual Tahoe Brewfest raised over $50K for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, a non-profit that provides afterschool and summer programs for community youth. A new venue on Ski Run Blvd., in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, provided a fun-filled space for the crowds of beer enthusiasts who flooded the street on Saturday, August 27, 2022. More than 2,200 people enjoyed beer samples from over 20 breweries and 14 food vendors while shopping at 18 booths selling locally handmade jewelry, clothing, art, and more.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's time to grab your brooms and witch's wardrobes and warm up those vocal cords for Witch's Night Out on October 20 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Hangar.

PT Revolution is holding a community discussion on September 29 at 6:15 p.m. about the importance of getting your body ready for ski season.

US Ski Team physician Katie Gollotto will present on many of the knee injuries she sees in her work with the US Ski Team. Coach Nick Ward, performance coach for Olympic skiers Travis Ganong & Marie-Michele Gagnon, will talk about the keys to ski season preparation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County staff has been looking for a building(s) to purchase in South Lake Tahoe in order to bring services together. Action during Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting solidified that plan.

The County has agreed to purchase 1111 and 1119 Emerald Bay Road, currently owned by Barton Health and formerly used as Barton Education, Language Access Services, Customer Service, and Physician Billing departments.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The rain continues to help firefighters on the Mosquito Fire. It is currently 76,290 acres in size and the containment line is now around 47% of the fire.

Personnel on the fire now numbers 2,437 people. With the increase in containment and current fire conditions, several more evacuation orders were lifted by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon. There are still 42 people evacuated. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been no burials at the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery for 63 years and the public is invited to an informational session on Thursday, September 22 to learn about what is on the horizon for its restoration and improvement project.

Through collaborative efforts between the City of South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Historical Society (LTHS), Daughters of the American Revolution South Lake Tahoe Chapter (DAR), Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra, and the Tahoe Conservancy, plans have been created to enhance public access to the cemetery which was created in 1866.

MEYERS, Calif. - There was a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the new San Bernardino Avenue Class 1 Bike Path that will connect the North Upper Truckee neighborhood to Tahoe Paradise Park. The project includes a bridge crossing over the Upper Truckee River.
