Within moments, labels like "local," "patriot" and "environmentalist” come forth and are used to dismiss and exclude others from the community discourse. These terms are clear examples of the “no true Scotsman” logical fallacy that painfully and unnecessarily divides us.

Letter: Invest in people and homes, not BurnBots
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/05/2024 - 1:35pmOn a windy day, embers from a fire can fly for miles. The U.S. Forest Service says, “During windy conditions, embers can be carried long distances, causing spot fires and home ignitions far from a wildfire.”
Clearing out 75 percent of the forest will not save our homes and families from wildfire ember ignitions. “Attempts to alter vegetation before fire comes, or to suppress fire when it ignites, are not keeping communities from burning in fast-moving fires,” according to Beverly Law, Ralph Bloemers, Nancy Colleton, and Mackenzie Allen.

The Lake Tahoe Basin is home to about 220,000 acres of forest, and according to Landtender, there are about 22,000,000 too many trees in the Basin. Before silver was discovered in Virginia City there were approximately 25 trees per acre around the lake.
