Power outage from the Tahoe Keys to western end of Pioneer Trail

UPDATE 6:00 p.m.: All customers have had their power restored except for 20 in the Sawmill Road area. Liberty Utilities had been estimating all up by 6:30 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over 4,500 Liberty Utilities customers in South Lake Tahoe are experiencing a power outage that occurred Sunday early in the afternoon.

Crews are working to restore power. The Liberty website estimates restoral of power around 4;13 p.m.

Many stores are closed due to lack of power so call ahead if going out.

Military flyover right above Lakeview Commons starts the 4th of July parade

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Final preparations are underway for the South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade. There are over 60 entries and over 200 people taking part in the parade which runs along US-50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. from Ski Run Blvd. to Bijou Community Park.

The theme of the parade is "Tahoe Strong: A salute to our heroes."

To start things off at 10 a.m. on Monday, there will be a military flyover right above Lakeview Commons courtesy of the Nevada Air National Guard, 152nd Airlift Wing "High Rollers."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — South Lake Tahoe’s first indoor mini-golf course, Flatstick Pub, also known as Tipsy Putt, will be teaming up with Special Olympics Northern California to give back to South Lake Tahoe’s environment and community. Leadership Lake Tahoe raises almost $100K for Boys and Girls Club

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The Leadership Lake Tahoe Class of 2022 has presented a check in the amount of $96,348.30 to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. The class raised funds from May 4 – May 31 with a dollar-for-dollar donation match up to $50,000 by Untethered Workspace, Desolation Hotel, and Maggie’s Restaurant. The balance of $46,348.30 was raised through the class fundraiser and the full match was granted.

Dangerous algae bloom detected at Indian Creek Reservoir

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Blue-green algae toxins have been detected in Indian Creek Reservoir and lake users have been advised to avoid water contact. The Alpine County Health Department has been working with The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board and South Tahoe Public Utility District and the Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) in determining that there are levels of toxin associated with blooms of blue-green algae in multiple lakes in Alpine County that are toxic to animals and humans.

Humane Society of Tahoe Truckee to give away pet emergency "go bags"

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is ensuring pets are as prepared as everyone else in case of an emergency, especially at the start of wildfire season. A generous grant from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation allowed HSTT to get pet “go bags” for emergency purposes, and there are still bags left in both South Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The bags are intended to be ready for “grab and go”, and will include almost everything your pet will need in case of an evacuation emergency.

CAMINO – Caltrans District 3 and the El Dorado County Department of Transportation are notifying the traveling public that a portion of Carson Road within the ongoing U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Camino Safety Project will be closed in July for up to 12 days.

Body of missing backpacker found in Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The body of a 32-year-old man from San Francisco who was backpacking in Desolation Wilderness has been found.

On June 28, 2022, at about 1:40 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a report of a tent that had been abandoned and blown over near Lake Aloha, southwest of Lake Tahoe. The reporting party said they were concerned due to the condition of the tent and personal belongings that were at the campsite. The items found included a USFS Wilderness Permit, and a driver’s license belonging to Jia Huang.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary awards Whittell High School graduates scholarships

Each year, the Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club awards higher education scholarships to deserving Whittell High seniors in support of their post-secondary educational plans. The Rotary Scholarship Committee looks for students with character who have excelled in scholastics, leadership, athletics, and student activities.

The funds generated for these scholarships come through Tahoe Douglas Rotary’s selected annual fundraising events and related efforts within the community.

South Lake Tahoe celebrates 4th of July with parade and military flyover

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe is celebrating Independence Day with its July 4th parade along US-50/Lake Tahoe Boulevard between Ski Run Blvd. and Al Tahoe Blvd.

The Glenbrook, Tahoe and Reno train engines part of the historic Great Western Steam Up

Almost 250 students celebrated during 47th graduation ceremony at Lake Tahoe Community College

One-way traffic control on State Route 267 scheduled for bridge inspection

TRUCKEE – Caltrans is alerting motorists to expect travel delays and one-way traffic control on State Route 267 this week for maintenance work.

Caltrans structures maintenance crews will be conducting routine inspections of the bypass bridge between the Interstate 80 separation and Old Brockway Road/Soaring Way on Wednesday, June 29 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Work in the area also will include drainage cleaning. One-way traffic control will be in effect on SR-267 during the inspection work.

Tahoe Fund and TAMBA launch matching campaign to build the Meeks Ridge Trail

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Tahoe Fund and the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) have announced a $50,000 matching campaign to build the Meeks Ridge Trail. This new 4.5-mile multi-use trail will provide a brand-new 10+ mile loop option for hikers and mountain bikers on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore.

Elwyn “El” Hug ~ January 27, 1936 – May 15, 2022

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11, at 3 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, 2733 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe. Following the service, El will be remembered at a reception filled with what he loved most – friends, food, and fun (and probably a few stories!).

Deputy Brian ishmael Memorial Highway signs go up in Placerville

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office held a ceremony in front of its Placerville headquarters on Monday to unveil the new highway signs in honor of Deputy Brian "Ish" Ishmael.

Sheriff D’Agostini and Senator Brian Dahle spoke at the event in front of “Ish’s” family, friends, and his law enforcement family. The signs were then mounted on both eastbound and westbound at US-50 and Missouri Flat Road.

NV Energy begins project between Carson City and Glenbrook; work may cause traffic delays

NV Energy started work on its Carson City to Glenbrook Transmission Line Rebuild Project on Monday, June 27 in the Spooner Summit and Voltaire Canyon area. During construction, the public may experience potential traffic delays primarily within the Spooner Summit area of U.S. Highway 50.

The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT), Clear Creek Trail, Spooner Summit Trailhead, and Spooner Summit South Day Use Area will remain open for public use.

Douglas County man sentenced and fined for assault and interference with crew during a flight from Seattle to Las Vegas

RENO, Nev. - A Gardnerville, Nevada resident was sentenced Friday to five years of probation, six months of home confinement, and restitution in the amount of $49,079, for assault and interference with crew members during a flight from Seattle to Las Vegas.

Daniel A. Parkhurst, 41, pleaded guilty on February 22, 2022, to one count of interference with flight crew members and attendants, and one count of simple assault in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States.

Column: Carrying Epic Collaboration Forward

Over the past decade and a half working to protect and restore Lake Tahoe, I’ve learned many lessons. The first is that being paralyzed by our differences has dire consequences for the lake and our communities. Doing nothing is not an option. The second and most important lesson is that achieving anything requires each of us to find common ground, get over our turf, and work toward shared goals. Sounds simple, but in today’s fractured world, working to find common ground takes special work and the work is never done.

LTCC hires new Vice President of Academic Affairs

Sugar Bowl Academy graduates 17 student-athletes

Excitement was in the air as Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA) graduated seventeen seniors on Saturday, June 11, at the Mount Judah Lodge.

In keeping with Sugar Bowl Academy tradition, underclassmen, classmates, and alumni individually introduced graduating seniors before awarding them their diplomas. Fire knocked down quickly at T's Mesquite Rotisserie

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) responded to a commercial structure fire Sunday afternoon at 901 Tahoe Boulevard, T’s Mesquite Rotisserie. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office safely evacuated all occupants of the Incline Village restaurant.

The fire was knocked down quickly with damage contained to the area of origin.

NLTFPD thanks its agency partners Nevada Highway Patrol, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Nevada State Parks, and North Tahoe Fire Protection District.

Alpine County looking for forester to manage $1.815M post Tamarack Fire grant

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Alpine County was successfully awarded $1,815,000 by the USFS State & Private Forestry Grant. These funds are for the purposes of private property, post-fire restoration, and cleanup. As a condition of the grant, Alpine County will contract with a registered professional forester to review funding requests, approve projects, conduct an environmental review and certify the completion of work. NDOT work zone updates for Lake Tahoe

Work zone updates from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the Lake Tahoe area. Traffic in work zones will either be reduced to a single lane with flagger control or shifted lanes with reduced speeds. Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delay times. All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.
