Sea to Sea for MBC at the Lake

Event Date:
May 19, 2015 - 5:00pm

Did you know that 30% of those diagnosed with early stage breast cancer will develop metastatic disease? Did you know that the big cancer organizations only dedicate, on average, 2% of the money they raise to metastatic breast cancer research? Do you even know what metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is?

METAvivor is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for women and men with MBC and funding research to transition it from a terminal illness to a controlled, chronic condition. At this point, however, metastatic breast cancer is a terminal disease. METAvivor is the only organization that solely funds MBC research through a scientific peer-review process. In addition, they put 100% of all donations and fundraiser proceeds into MBC research grants.

Join Dr Kelly Shanahan, gynecologist and woman living with metastatic breast cancer, in welcoming METAvivor to South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday May 19th as part of the “Sea to Sea for MBC” awareness and fundraising event. Learn about this disease that will claim the lives of 108 women and men – mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, brothers, husbands, sons, teachers, firefighters, grocery clerks, doctors, young and old –today and every day. Despite all the awareness of early stage breast cancer and campaigns for early detection, deaths from MBC have not declined over the past 20 years.

Refreshments will be served. Donations and proceeds from a raffle will go directly to METAvivor to fund research that may one day save your life, or the life of someone you love.

The event will be held at Dr Shanahan’s office, at 1154 Emerald Bay Rd, from 5-7 PM on Tuesday May 19th. RSVP to stage4kelly@outlook.com.
