In just two hours Friday afternoon, 220 sandbags had been filled and carted off by residents preparing for the upcoming storm. With up to ten inches of precipitation heading to Lake Tahoe, and most in the form of rain, City of South Lake Tahoe officials are warning everyone to take all precautions necessary to stay safe.

The City will be keeping two locations open all day and night for people to stop by and fill sandbags. They provide the sand and bags at the City's maintenance yard on Rufus Allen Blvd and the other at the SLT Fire Station 3 at 2101 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Both areas will have generator lights on all night long.

The City has also started a webpage to keep the public informed during the storm which starts off with snow on Saturday, turning to rain by evening and is forecast to rain nonstop until Monday. Visit www.cityofslt.us/storm to stay updated. SouthTahoeNow.com will also carry up to the minute news throughout the weekend.

On that page there is a video on how to clear storm drains near your home, as City crews will not be able to get to every drain.

All emergency operations personnel in the area will be on duty and are well prepared to handle the storm, and what will happen after snow begins to melt quickly with the rainfall.

"We encourage residents and visitors to be prepared as well," said SLT City Manager Nancy Kerry.
