With an overall record of 12-1 and a Northern Nevada IV league leading 5-0, the Whittell High School Varsity Basketball Team has taken off just as they did in their 2014 State Championship year.
The Whittell Warriors hosted Excel Christian action Saturday night. Whittell's 31 point second quarter sealed the deal as the South Shore team won, 81-51. Whittell was coming off a Friday night road victory where they beat Smith Valley 73-35.
As expected, Warriors have spots in many league leading categories. Junior Palmer Chaplin leads the lead with 21.8 average points per game, 8.6 assists per game and 5.4 average steals per game. Teammates Colin Buchholz and Quinn Kixmiller (both Juniors) also make up the TOP 5 list for points per game with 12.8 and 9.2 respectively. Kixmiller also shows up on two other lists with 9.5 rebounds per game and an average 2 steals per game. In fact, each spot on the Top 5 list for steals per game is held by a member of the Whittell team.
