Fall sports for South Tahoe High and Whittell High Schools are on the home stretch, with several teams headed to the playoffs.
The Whittell Warriors continue their dominance on the Division IV gridiron. The team is coming off their seventh straight win with a 18-14 win over Virginia City Saturday. They are now ranked number three in the state, and number one in the Northern Nevada division. On the year, they have scored 346 points and have just 44 scored against them. Next up is an away game against North Tahoe on October 23. The defending state champs wrap up the regular season October 29 with a home game against Smith Valley.
South Tahoe High's varsity football team was coming off two straight shutout wins when they went to Elko, Nev. on Friday night, but the Indians were a much tougher foe. The Vikings, now 3-5, lost to Elko 54-27. Next up for South Tahoe, their last home game of the regular season on Friday, October 23 against Sparks. Both teams have the same 3-5 record.
Girls varsity soccer from South Tahoe High continued their road to state with wins over Lowry on Thursday 4-0, and Churchill County on Saturday, 4-0. The Vikings are now ranked 14th in the state. Next up for them is the team from Dayton who they host on October 21 in a 2 p.m. match-up. The 10-1-1 Vikings have had only 7 goals scored against them this season, a league best.
The defending state champ Whittell varsity girls soccer team won their eighth in a row by beating Pershing County 5-0. The defending state champs are taking their 10-1-1 record down the home stretch.
Whittell's varsity boys soccer team lost to Battle Mountain Friday, 3-1. They are wrapping up their season with a league record of 1-6-1.
The varsity boys soccer team from South Tahoe High is now 7-0-5 after beating Lowry on Friday night, 1-0, followed by a win over Churchill County Saturday, 2-1. They are now third in the Tahoe Soccer Standings, trailing Sparks' record of 9-0-3 and Elko who are now 8-1-3. Next up for the Vikings is a home game against the boys from Dayton on Wednesday, October 21 at 4 p.m., following by hosting Sparks on Saturday, October 24 at noon.
South Tahoe's varsity girls volleyball Friday to Churchill County, 3-2 but still maintain fourth place in league standings. After losses to They travel to Dayton on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match.
The girls Volleyball team from Whittell now has a 5-5 record after loosing to Virginia City 3-2 on Saturday. Next up for them is an away match at Pyramid Lake on Tuesday, October 20, followed by another road trip on October 26 at Sage Ridge or Reno.
