SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe home was damaged by fire Friday evening after an explosion in adjacent shed.

At 5:34 p.m. on January 11, 219, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) personnel and police officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Kyburz Avenue. Upon arrival they found a shed and the rear portion of a two-story home on fire.

Flames were visible and additional firefighters from neighboring agencies were called. Lake Valley Fire and Tahoe Douglas Fire both arrived and off-duty firefighters were called back to work to cover the city.

A perimeter was immediately put up to prevent the spread to nearby homes and motels. Fire touched a portion of the eaves at the Emerald Bay Inn, prompting a temporary evacuation of the motel on Highway 50, according to Sgt. Jason Cheney of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD). It was quickly extinguished and occupants were allowed to return.

The fire is suspicious in nature at this time and SLTPD detectives are at the scene along with the SLTFR fire investigator.

Once more information becomes available this story will be updated.

Cheney said at least one person lived at the home and another in a trailer on the property. They were not injured.
