To all parents and community members interested in sharing science with local youth:
We are currently seeking volunteers for the 2014 Science Expo to help us on five days (Monday through Friday, March 17 – 21, 2014) at eleven different 2 ¼-hour sessions:
Monday, March 17 / morning 9:15–11:30 am
Tuesday, March 18 / morning 9:00–11:15 am
Tuesday, March 18 / early afternoon 11:05–1:20 pm

Friday, March 21 / early afternoon 11:30–1:45 pm
This year’s theme is Earth & Space Science and activities will include space science, Earth systems, geology, weather, climate, and more. We are still finalizing the science activity stations. Please feel free to sign up for more than one session as we need a minimum of 37 volunteers per session (11 sessions x 37 activities = 407 volunteer sign-ups!). Volunteers will need to be at the chosen or assigned activity station and ready to go prior to the start time indicated. You should also plan a few minutes following the end time in order to clean up and prepare materials for the next session.
Training is provided and no science experience is required. We will hold training events on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village. We are also available to train you for the activity station during the hour leading up to the start time or over the telephone in advance of the event. Lastly, we are willing to travel to present information about the activity stations, but the activity materials will not all be available. Many of the stations require very little training and simply need a facilitator. Print-outs with activity descriptions will be available with detailed background about the science presented.
We could really use your help. It is important that our students have early experiences in science so that they develop problem-solving skills that empower them to participate in an increasingly scientific and technological world.
Please contact volunteer coordinator Kristen Reichardt at kereichardt@ucdavis.edu or (775) 881-7560, ext. 7474 to help share science with the kids of our region. Or use the following link to sign up for a volunteer position: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0945AAA72EA4FB6-science.
