Community forum in South Lake Tahoe to discuss the "Loop Road" project

Event Date:
February 10, 2016 - 4:30pm

A different kind of presentation will be made on the US50/South Shore Revitalization Project this week, one that will include a question and answer period and not just the open house atmosphere of recent Tahoe Transportation District meetings on the project. For the past several years, TTD has been holding public meetings and talking with the community shareholders in order to formulate the best plan for the future of Highway 50 through the Stateline portion of South Lake Tahoe, a plan initiated in 1980.

The local community is invited to attend the forum on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at South Tahoe Middle School.

Prior to attending the meeting, and for those unable to attend, citizens are asked to participate in an online survey. The interactive presentation has been created to explain what is still known as the "Loop Road Project." There are five questions to gather participant's feelings and desired outcome.

Play the "game."

Also on line is a guide for the processes involved should the project get funding and homes and businesses would need to relocated.

The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion, improve vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle safety; advance multi-modal transportation opportunities; improve the environmental quality of the area; enhance visitor and community experience; and promote the economic vitality of the area.

These five principles evolved from the original project goals with input from the public & Community Review Committee (CRC) members.

The relocation of Highway 50 to behind Raley's and the casinos at Stateline is estimated to cost $70 million. It would be paid for by Federal highway funding from a combination of sources, including local, state and federal contributions.
