Internet, cable and some phone services restored for Lake Tahoe an Carson Valley

9:40 p.m. update: Internet and cable service for customers in the South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley region have been restored.

The severed fiber option lines above Airport Road in Minden were reconnected one-by-one. According to Charter, there can be thousands of wires in each line.

5:15 p.m. update: Charter Communications estimates their crews will have services restored to the region by 8:00 p.m.

This morning, a garbage truck backed into some aerial fiber optic lines in Minden, Nev., causing them to snap in half. The restoration job is normally a 9-10 hour task. The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Undersheriff Paul Howell of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department told South Tahoe Now that their crews were initially dispatched to the scene, but called off by East Fork Fire when it was determined to not be a vehicle accident.

4:45 p.m. update: Internet and cable services are still down in the Carson Valley and South Lake Tahoe area. Charter, Sprint and Verizon customers appear to be affected.

Crews have been working on the problem since the outage first happened just before 9:00 a.m. this morning. There is no estimated time of reconnection at this time.

Customers of Charter Communications are experiencing an outage in the South Lake Tahoe region. Internet and cable services are affected.

According to Charter, the outage is widespread. Technicians are on site, actively working to restore services.
