South Lake Tahoe leaders to hear about proposed speed limit hike
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 3:10pm
For reasons that remain unclear among many in town, Caltrans wants to raise the speed limit by 5 mph through portions of South Lake Tahoe and Meyers. On Tuesday, city leaders and the community will hear presentations by Caltrans representatives regarding future plans.
Last fall Caltrans announced it was revisiting a review of speed limits between Meyers and South Lake Tahoe, with the idea of increasing the speed limit by 5 mph. The reasons for the proposal are to be explained to the South Lake Tahoe Cit Council at its regular meeting. Go here to see a map of the proposal.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the City Council Chambers, 1901 Airport Road. Go here for the full agenda.
Later in the day, a public meeting will be held in Meyers beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Valley Fire Protection District. The meeting is being hosted by the Meyers Roundtable Committee and the Meyers Business Group. The public is encouraged to attend and should park on Keetak Street due to limited on-site parking.
Other council agenda items:
— Another report by Caltrans, this time from Senior Transportation Engineer Michael Cook, is on the agenda. The presentation is in reference to Highway 50 and State Highway 89 water quality and street improvement projects.
— Brad Schiller, economics professor at the University of Nevada Reno will give a presentation based on his book "The Economy Today.”
