Barton Women’s Health welcomes Kenneth Spielvogel, M.D., obstetrician and gynecologist (OB/GYN), to their care team. Dr. Spielvogel and the entire women’s health team, including, OB/GYN, John Missanelli and long-time, Barton Health, family nurse practitioner, Patience Wenck will host a public open house reception on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Just across from Barton Memorial Hospital, at 2175 South Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, the newly remodeled women’s facility, will open its doors from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the doctors, the entire staff, take a tour and enter to win a Kindle Fire.
“I look forward to providing quality obstetric and Gynecologic care to the women of Tahoe,” Dr. Spielvogel said. “In the modern age of medicine, research has shown that informed decisions reached by both doctor and patient as a team lead to improved outcomes.”
He was one of the first surgeons to be certified in OB/GYN robotic procedures at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. At Grand Strand, Dr. Spielvogel had the highest volume of obstetric patients, including high-risk pregnancies. He also served as clinical faculty for Medical University of South Carolina’s physician assistant program and Duke University’s Certified Nurse Midwife program.
Voted best OB/GYN 2012 Parent Magazine “Reader’s Poll” and “Patient’s Choice” OB/GYN from 2009 to 2012 on Vitals.com, Dr. Spielvogel’s goal is not to boast about his accomplishments, but to make sure women are educated. Whether they are planning on having children one-day, are pregnant or are going through menopause, he believes education is key to taking care of themselves and/or their baby’s health. And, Dr. Spielvogel also plans to reach out to teens on the importance of preventative care, such as sexual education, including pregnancy and sexual transmitted diseases.
“You [patients] have choices whether it comes to how your labor is carried out, or what medication might work best for you,” Dr. Spielvogel said. “I strive to inform patients as clearly as possible of their options and work as a team to reach the best decision for everyone involved."
As a Board Certified (OB/GYN) of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Spielvogel also is fluent in Spanish is a trained da Vinci robotic surgeon, specializing in complex gynecological procedures. Dr. Spielvogel received his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and completed his residency at University of Colorado, Health Sciences. Soon after his arrival last week, Dr. Spielvogel began to take “call” at Barton Memorial Hospital’s Birthing Center, where he’s delivered several babies. He also is seeing patients at Barton Women’s Health as well as devoting the rest of his time to patients at Barton’s Community Clinic.
