Windy day around Lake Tahoe Thursday, rain expected over the weekend

Rain is headed to Lake Tahoe this weekend, but ahead of it will be the wind. There is a Lake Wind Advisory in effect until 4:00 p.m. Thursday with winds 15 mph to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Wave heights could be 2-3 feet from mid-lake to the north and east shores.

There are scattered showers to the west of the Sierra during the day Thursday, with light precipitation expected in the Sierra at times Thursday night through the weekend. A few weather systems are heading to Lake Tahoe with a stronger storm probably for Tuesday and Wednesday according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Snow levels will be relatively high this weekend, around 7000 feet, but there could be some travel issues due to slick driving conditions. The Lake Tahoe Basin shouldn't be affected much by snow over the weekend.

Another small systems comes into the area Sunday and again Tuesday-Wednesday. At this point the best chance for snow is on Wednesday.

Today - Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tonight - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday - A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Friday Night - A 30 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday - A 20 percent chance of showers after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. South wind around 5 mph becoming east in the morning.

Saturday Night - A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 26.

Sunday - A 30 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47.

Sunday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Monday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 49.

Monday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Tuesday - A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 49.
