Cattle Truck and 2 Vehicles Collide; Hwy 88 and Mottsville Lane Closed

10:20 pm update: The Nevada Highway Patrol has reported that 26 of the 66 cows on board the truck were killed in the accident. An initial investigation has determined that the driver of the cattle truck is at fault and failed to yield at a traffic light when the truck collided with a Subaru driving through the intersection, NHP Sgt. Gabor Visnovits said. The cattle truck driver was transported to Renown where it is reported that he had injuries to his upper extremities. No other injuries were reported. The road was expected to be opened by 9 p.m. Tuesday.
State Route 88 and Mottsville Lane in Douglas County are currently closed due to an accident on Tuesday afternoon. Three vehicles were involved, including a semi-truck with a trailer loaded with cattle.
The accident occurred at the intersection of SR88 and Waterloo Lane.
Emergency crews are currently assessing the situation. Power poles have been knocked down. The roadway is currently closed to traffic and will be for some hours according to at Douglas County Sheriff's Office 5 p.m. press release. It is unknown how long the road will be closed. According to NV Energy, they can start replacing the down power pole once the truck and cattle are removed.
One person was transported to Renown Medical Center via Careflight. Their condition is unknown at this time.
