In true Tahoe fashion, a lack of snow has brought out the creative planning by the organizers of the annual Camp Richardson Snowshoe Cocktail Race. The popular race will take place on the beach in front of the Beacon Bar and Grill. If the weather forecast holds out, the race will be on sand instead of snow.
Racers will go head to head in the finale of Camp Richardson’s Snowshoe Cocktail Races March 21 at 7 p.m., with registration starting at 5 p.m.
Racers, cocktail trays in hand, navigate through obstacles and up and down the beach. They will run, knees up, kicking snow (or sand) with their snowshoes while balancing a tray full of drinks hoping to be the fastest without spilling. The winner is the fastest and driest at the finish. Prizes range from snowboards and dining certificates to equipment and marina rentals.
There are three categories: novice, amateur and expert.
Registration is free in multiple race categories. www.camprichardson.com
