Douglas County School District (DCSD) now knows when the last day of school will be for their schools both at the lake and in the valley, but Lake Tahoe Unified District (LTUSD) is waiting on word from California if their seven day waiver was accepted.
The State of Nevada let DCSD know that most of their students wouldn't have to make up any of the days of school missed during this winter's snow storms. The lone exception was George Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove. Their students had to attend school on Friday, March 24 to make up an extra snow day.
The schools in South Lake Tahoe are still waiting to hear when their last day will be. The LTUSD snow day waiver request was received by the California Department of Education on February 10, 2017 and it typically takes 6-8 weeks to receive the approval letter, so word should be in any day. They applied for a waiver of seven snow days, which doesn't include the March 6 snow day. The last day of school, if all seven days are granted, is June 16. For every day not granted, another school day will be added.
The last day of school for DCSD students will be a minimum day as follows:
Valley Elementary Schools: June 8
Valley Middle Schools: June 7
ASPIRE Academy High School: June 7
Douglas High School: June 7
Zephyr Cove Elementary School: June 22
George Whittell High School: June 22
