Another week of the same in South Lake Tahoe: Sun, rain and snow

Winter doesn't want to release its hold on the Lake Tahoe area, but it does appear to give all a break on Passover and Easter Sunday. At this point, the forecast for next weekend is party sunny with highs in the upper 40s, lows in the 20s.

A series of storms will begin to impact the region Tuesday through Friday. Gusty winds, periods of mountain snow and valley rainfall can be expected with these storms. The first storm will arrive Tuesday afternoon, which is the weaker of the two systems. This storm will bring a chance of snow showers in the Sierra and rain showers along valley floors in western Nevada. The second storm will make landfall Wednesday, bringing a greater chance of heavier snow in the Sierra and moderate rainfall along the valley floors.

The seven day forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Tonight - Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Monday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. West wind around 5 mph.

Monday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday - A chance of rain and snow, mainly after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tuesday Night - A slight chance of rain and snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday - A 20 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 50. Breezy.

Wednesday Night - Rain and snow. Low around 31. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday - Rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 41.

Thursday Night - A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Friday - Partly sunny, with a high near 43.

Saturday - Partly sunny, with a high near 48.
