Winter Weather Advisory to start off the weekly South Lake Tahoe forecast

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The calendar says the week before Memorial Day, but Mother Nature isn't too keen on letting summer get a start in Lake Tahoe.
A late-season storm will bring gusty winds, below-average temperatures, mountain snow, and periods of valley rain for the rest of today through Tuesday. Cloud cover hangs around into Wednesday keeping temperatures below seasonal averages with a few showers possible. Winds increase Thursday ahead of another system
which could bring a second round of cooler temperatures and scattered showers back to the region for Friday and Saturday.
But first, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Lake Tahoe from midnight Sunday to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) says accumulating snow is expected above 7000 feet. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches for passes between 7000 and 8000 feet, with 4 to 8 inches for passes above 8000 feet. Little to no accumulation expected below 7000 feet. Southwest winds gusting as high as 90 mph on the Sierra ridges.
NWS Reno forecast for South Lake Tahoe
Monday - Rain and snow showers, becoming all rain after 11am. Snow level rising to 7100 feet in the afternoon. High near 49. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Monday Night - Rain showers likely before 8pm, then rain and snow showers likely between 8pm and 2am, then a chance of snow showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday - A chance of snow showers before 11am, then rain and snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Light southwest wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday Night - A 40 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Snow level 7000 feet lowering to 6400 feet after midnight . Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Wednesday - A 20 percent chance of showers after 11am. Snow level 6400 feet rising to 8000 feet in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Wednesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.
Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 64.
Thursday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.
Friday - A slight chance of showers after 11am. Snow level 6300 feet rising to
7200 feet in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 57.
Friday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.
Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 60.
Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 33.
Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 66.
