Windy conditions & cooler temperatures forecast for Lake Tahoe

There will be a cold front moving into the Lake Tahoe and western Nevada area late Monday night into Tuesday morning. The front is bringing with it strong winds and much colder temperatures, but no rain or snow.

Southwest winds from 25 mph to 40 mph are expected with gusts up to 60 mph possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake wind advisory for Lake Tahoe which will be in effect from 2 p.m. Monday to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Wave heights will be from 2' to 5' with the highest waves Monday night and early Tuesday morning from mid-lake to the north and east shores.

Small boats will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Advisories include warnings for paddle boards and kayaks. They should be off of the lake by midday Monday.

The NWS forecast for South Lake Tahoe, beginning Sunday, April 12:

Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 30. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Monday - Sunny, with a high near 62. Breezy, with a southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Monday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 22.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 52.

Wednesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 26.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 62.

Thursday Night - Clear, with a low around 32.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 65.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 62.
